ISSY MATRIN

HEAD COACH Firstly, a warm Loughborough welcome to our visitors Nottingham Forrest today. Everyone loves a game under the lights, it always feels an extra special occasion and atmosphere. We face Forest tonight after two tough defeats ahead of a tough run of fixtures. This group of Lightning players are special. The upturn in results since Christmas has been a remarkable achievement and shows just what potential the players have. They are a resilient determined squad and they are ready to fight against Forest this evening. Be our “12th man” this evening, the support from the crowd makes a huge difference to the team. Issy Martin Head Coach

CHLOE YOUNG

CAPTAIN Wednesday nights under the lights at the stadium doesn’t get much better! Tonight gives us a great opportunity to go out and put in a performance to be proud of after a disappointing result at the weekend. We had chances in the first half against Burnley but didn’t capitalise and in this league, you get punished for that. We know Forest will be a tough opponent but it’s a challenge we will relish. As a group we don’t believe we deserve to be where we are in the league standings and tonight gives us a great opportunity to test ourselves against a good side. We will need to be organised, together and brave, all qualities we have demonstrated in abundance over the past few months. We want to prove that to be part of this Loughborough lightning team means more than just a badge. It’s a privilege to be part of a programme that continues to push us to be the best version of ourselves and that is what we will ask of each other tonight.

Founded in 1990, Nottingham Forest Ladies Football Club has been one of the most historic clubs in women’s football.

programmes, Forest Ladies added a reserve-team programme in 2005-06 followed up by a development team programme in 2018.

Largely operated by volunteer administration and coaching staff, Forest Ladies has been able to capitalize on the local support in Nottinghamshire to maintain its status within competitive women’s football.

In April 2018, Nottingham Forest Ladies entered into a partnership with Nottingham Forest Football Club where Forest Ladies would receive financial backing along with access to resources from Nottingham Forest Football Club.

Currently competing in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division Forest Ladies have had years of recognition and club honours spanning over almost three decades. Over the years Nottingham Forest Ladies F.C has built out a female development pathway including a juniors’ programme launched in 199697 by senior players Donna Hilton and Lisa Dawkins. To bridge the gap between the senior team and junior

In December 2018, Forest Ladies hired its first full-time staff member, bringing in a General Manager with a view to increasing standards of the club, both on and off the field and prepare for promotion campaigns. Ahead of the 2019-20 season, Nottingham Forest Ladies changed its name and logo. From 1st July 2019, the club’s name was changed to Nottingham Forest Women, dropping the word Ladies

from the club name and logo. Along with the progressive name change, Nottingham Forest Women hired its first ever full-time head coach, Andrew Cook, to oversee all on-field football aspects of the club from junior to senior programmes. The mission of Forest Ladies is to provide playing opportunities to female players of all ages and abilities within a safe, fun and standardized environment. The ambition of Forest Women aligns with that of Nottingham Forest Football Club….to be the best at everything it does and compete at the highest levels.

LOUGHBOROUGH LIGHTNING FC

A BRIEF HISTORY

LOUGHBOROUGH FOXES Gail and Paul Fox founded Loughborough Foxes in 1999, known then as Shepshed Foxes until 2002. For their first 15 years, Foxes played in local leagues, before being promoted to the FA Women’s Northern Premier Division (the 3rd ranked tier of women’s football) in 2015. After the first season they suffered relegation but managed a promotion in 2018 to return to this tier. Winning this Midlands Division One title was actually a club record for Foxes, winning 22 games and drawing just 1.

LOUGHBOROUGH UNIVERSITY PERFORMANCE TEAM Loughborough Students Women’s Football Club offers many competitive opportunities. The performance team compete in the British Universities & Colleges Sports (BUCS) Northern Premier League. When possible, players are also supported to play “external football” alongside the programme, most notably with our partner Loughborough Foxes (Tier 3), but also other Tier 3 and Championship clubs. Each year Loughborough University invests a million pounds in performance sport, and a million pounds in facilities. Thanks to this investment, Director of Football Richard Allen is able to lead a professional programme of coaching and support.

As a first team performance squad member you will receive expert coaching, access to our world class facilities, heavily discounted Powerbase gym membership, strength and conditioning training, nutrition, sports science and sports medicine support. Within the programme players also have access to Performance Lifestyle support and our top athletes can apply for scholarships.

15

MERGING/ LIGHTNING LAUNCH The University’s performance team and the Loughborough Foxes have officially combined to launch a new Lightning programme that will compete nationally against some of the biggest names in the sport. The clubs have worked in close collaboration for a number of years now with Head Coach Issy Martin overseeing both programmes since her appointment at the University in September 2019.

Lightning will compete in the FA Northern Premier League where it will face teams including Burnley, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, and West Bromwich Albion.
