Carmen McCullough is a mixed-media artist who creates collages with paint, paper, fabric, old family photos, and found objects. Her time as a youngster was spent on a small farm in rural Minnesota. When she wasn’t playing with crayons and paint, she was wandering the countryside with her brothers and sister.
The inspiration to create this book came from an assortment of vintage family photographs discovered in an old blue suitcase from her Grandmother’s past. A muted, sepia-toned color palette reminiscent of antique photographic techniques was used to create the collages, which are a nod to the artwork Carmen produced from 2005 to 2015. The backgrounds were made using paint, stencils, and the text from an obsolete book written in German. Carmen’s original artwork and “how to” articles have been published in Somerset Studio, Somerset Studio Gallery, Somerset Apprentice, Minnesota Women’s Press, and more. See more of Carmen’s artwork at www.StrangeFarmGirl.com or drop her an e-mail at Carmen@StrangeFarmGirl.com.
