LIFE IS BETTER WITH BLUE.
Natural gas can cost half as much as electricity.
Imagine a better life. What would you wish for? Reliable and inexpensive energy might not be the first thing that comes to mind but if you think about it, natural gas is the ideal energy. It’s abundant, home grown, clean, and it can cost half as much as electricity or oil to heat your home or business. So you could say that with Blue, life seems better. And, that your wish has come true. See how your energy costs compare to natural gas at: nwnaturalcompare.com.

WELCOME TO
THE DALLES Nestled along the banks of the mighty Columbia River, just 84 miles east of Portland, The Dalles, Oregon, serves as the eastern gateway for the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Located in the rain shadow of Mt. Hood, The Dalles enjoys 300 days of sunshine, providing a myriad of recreational opportunities throughout the year. This sunny climate also nurtures our world-renowned sweet cherry crop – making The Dalles the sweet cherry capital of the world – and grape varietals used to make award-winning wines. We are proud of our community’s rich history. As a historic Native American trading area, The Dalles has been a center of commerce for thousands of years and one of the oldest communities in North America. Our city is also known as the end of the Oregon Trail, where pioneers loaded their wagons onto rafts or barges and floated down the Columbia to the mouth of the Willamette River, then upriver to Oregon City. Just 75 minutes from Portland and with 300 days of sun a year and fantastic recreational and cultural opportunities, The Dalles is a wonderland for cyclists, hikers, river rafters, wildflower fanatics, anglers, art lovers, history buffs and wine aficionados. We hope you’ll return again and again!

wheatland, high desert, and, of course, the mighty Columbia River. It is an area rich in history and resources. Less than an hour away, Mt. Hood (11,250 feet) provides a paradise for skiers, hikers, mountain climbers, and those who just want to experience its grandeur. Mt. Adams, the Klickitat Mountains, and the Columbia River itself also provide stunning vistas. WHERE TO GO
The Dalles is a fisherman’s paradise with easy access to several major rivers and the greatest fishing around, the eastern end of the Gorge appeals to anglers of all ages and skill levels. Lower Deschutes River • Trout, Steelhead, Salmon • Access: Boat Launch: Heritage Landing State Park (camping accommodations available) • Fishing from the bank: Any public access point along the river. • The lower Deschutes – which enters the Columbia River just east of The Dalles – is famous for both its trout and its fly fishing. Don’t miss the “Salmon Fly” hatch in May and June. Chinook salmon fishing can be quite good on the Deschutes, but spring seasons are allowed only under special regulations when run forecasts are promising. The Dalles Pool, Columbia River

Walleye season is yearround, but most anglers get serious about in March, with pre-spawn fishing best through April. Popular spots for Salmon and Steelhead

John Day River • Smallmouth Bass, Steelhead • Access: Boat Launch: La Page Park (camping accommodations available) • Fishing from the bank: Multiples trails follow the river and make bank fishing easily accessible. • The John Day River in northeastern Oregon is by many avid bass anglers’ estimations one of the best places to fish for smallmouth in the world. The smallies on the sunny side of the state are both numerous and large. Most steelhead in The John Day River are wild and must be released. Best catches for these is usually fall and again in late winter and very early spring. The John Day flows into the
