HI FILM FANS, Well, now we are in the middle of blockbuster season and we’ve already had some crackers! But there’s still loads more to come, including: MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: FALLOUT with Tom Cruise wowing audiences with his amazing stunts. Musical fans will be anticipating the return of MAMMA MIA: HERE WE GO AGAIN, the sequel to the biggest film that we’ve ever had at the Connaught. We are super excited for shark based nonsense THE MEG with Jason Statham. The schools are off so there’s some great stuff for families with Pixar bringing back the Parr family for THE INCREDIBLES 2. Disney are releasing the delightful CHRISTOPHER ROBIN with a grown up Christopher Robin reuniting with his pals from the Hundred Acre Wood. Adam Sandler brings the monster gang back with HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3. It’s not all crash, bang, wallop though. We have our usual standard of arthouse programming with Debra Granik’s follow up to Winter’s Bone LEAVE NO TRACE, British comedy SWIMMING WITH MEN, Gothic drama MARY SHELLEY and many more. We have some fab one-offs as well, like HEAT celebrating Robert De Niro’s birthday and the inimitable GREASE 2. Don’t miss the rare opportunity to see YELLOW SUBMARINE on the big screen. Our Screen Arts programming has some outstanding content over the summer with Andre Rieu and Jonas Kaufmann. New seasons from the National Theatre & Glyndebourne, there’s something for everyone this summer.

MY PICK

Of the usual releases I am most excited for THE INCREDIBLES 2 and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, oh and also LEAVE NO TRACE as I loved Winter’s Bone. For the one-offs, I am pretty pumped to see HEAT on the big screen again. James Tully Campaigns and Film Manager

Although, not everyone is enamoured by her mini social revolution...

CHOCOLAT

BUZZ A charming British film exploring the power of language and literature. With ever reliable actors, Bill Nighy as the paternal Mr Brundish and Patricia Clarkson as the hostile Mrs Gamart. Emily Mortimer excels as usual and the view of the nice safe English village is slowly peeled back.

SYNOPSIS The real life story of Mary Shelley - and the creation of her immortal monster - is nearly as fantastical as her fiction. Raised by a renowned philosopher father in 18th-century London, Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin is a teenage dreamer determined to make her mark on the world. Marked by both passion and personal tragedy that transforms Mary and fuels the writing of her Gothic masterwork. Imbued with the imaginative spirit of its heroine, Mary Shelley brings to life the world of a trailblazing woman who defied convention and channelled her innermost demons into a legend for the ages.

MISERY

THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM

BUZZ A fascinating look at the life of Mary Shelley, exploring

many angles that most people will not be aware of. A great cast including GAME OF THRONES Maisie Williams, sell the Gothic story brilliantly and Douglas Booth is also great as the author’s lover, poet Percy Shelley. But Elle Fanning dominates the film in the title role.
