Linalool is a type of terpene alcohol found naturally in flowers, seeds and spice plants, therefore has a light floral and citrus odor. Linalool has multiple other names such as βlinalool, linalyl alcohol, and linaloyl oxide among others with a chemical formula C10H18O and CAS no. 78-70-6.

Over 200 plant species produces linalool and traditionally linalool was used as a sedatives, however linalool has multiple commercial applications associated to its pleasant scent. Linalool is found naturally as well as can be synthesized in a laboratory.

Subsequent rectification and fractional distillation from oils such as Mexican linaloe, coriander seed, and Shiu among others linalool can be obtained. Linalool is a colorless liquid and has a range of bioactive properties and hence has a major potential in the pharmaceutical as well as cosmetic industry.
