VISIT BIRKHOLM, ÆRØ’S “LITTLE BROTHER” Birkholm is one of the smallest inhabited Danish islands, and it is part of the Municipality of Ærø . There are actually more houses than residents on Birkholm . Several of the houses, which are holiday homes today, are owned by people who live in other parts of Denmark and spend a good deal of time looking after them . A small, loyal group of residents who were born and raised on the island are devoted to keeping the old traditions alive and take pride in ensuring that everything is intact in summer and winter alike . There are no eateries on Birkholm, but there is a small self-service shop and a marina, as well as countryside that is perfect for hiking, and a number of great fishing spots . To find out more about Birkholm and the options for trips to the little island, see visitaeroe .com/birkholm .

GO SAILING From Ærø Boat Charter, you can rent a boat – with or without a captain – and go island hopping in the South Funen Archipelago .
