SPRING ARRIVES EARLY – AND SUDDENLY The green shoots of spring appear earlier on Ærø than on the mainland . The island wakes with a start from its winter hibernation in the early months of spring, and the bushes and trees burst into bloom in a veritable symphony of colour .

Every year, the rapeseed fields add their dash of bright yellow colour to large parts of the island, and poppies bloom in big and small clusters in the fields and roadside culverts .
