Your Questions About Bass Fishing Rigs

How can i make decent sea fishing rigs? Can someone tell me how i can make good sea fishing rigs eg bass rigs. Diagrams would be awesome thanks
LMBassFish answers: An important thing to keep in mind when tying up a bass fishing rig is that you don’t want the fish to feel the weight when he hits your bait, so I usually will rig an egg sinker above a swivel and then use my leader material below this. Try this site as they have a section for useful rigs set ups…….. Anglers resource.org………………. And check out the “slide bottom rig” , this rig will work well for bass, and as I said before, you can use an egg sinker instead of that line slider.

Is it a smart idea to use two lures? I’m just getting into bass fishing. Using a texas rig with plastic worms currently. Would there be a benefit of rigging two lures/hooks to a line?
LMBassFish answers: There used to be a bass jig head that will allow you to attach a leader behind it. The idea was to fish a jig normally while carolina rigging a plastic worm. I was very excited when I found that special jig head and bought quite a few of them on the spot. Total number of fish landed on that special jig head – 1 Total number of fish missed on that special jig head – lost count. LOL Is the idea good? I still think it is a great idea. Do they still make that jig head? Not a chance! LOL It was a great idea but it didn’t work as well as expected. Those two different lures tend to interfere with each other. My catch ratio was A LOT better with only one lure. I think you could drop shot and jig fishing at the same time though… I’ve never tried this but I think it will work. @Blue Tiger: What in the world is a twister? Are you talking about Mister Twister?

What is the best pole to get for a shimano symetre? I need a good bass fishing pole.
LMBassFish answers: There are as many answers to this as there are fishermen. I personally like the Berkley Cherrywood rods and tend to go 6’6? or 7? myself. I have a custom G. Loomis with a Symetre and it is a very nice rig, but the fish could care less what rod you use, I catch as much on my Cherrywood, or my “Ugly Stick” as I do on the EXPENSIVE set-up. The Cherrywood has caught hundreds of King Salmon and countless small trout and Bass without showing a bit of fatigue yet.

When do fish spawn in northern Wisconsin? I hear everyone saying the best time to bass fish is during the spawn. I am planning a trip to Three Lakes (Eagle River) Wisconsin, and I am trying to hit it during the spawn. I assume it is in the spring, but how exactly can you predict the spawn? What are the contributing factors to cause the spawn? Do these same conditions hold true across the U.S.? I am planning a trip to Texas as well. Any ideas?
LMBassFish answers: Don’t know what to answer other than when conditions are right. Water temp is main factor. When you go to Texas keep your eye on water temp to catch largemouth. They usually start when water temp hits 58F.Mid Feb usually in East TX. Pre-spawn going on now. Fish channels and humps 17-24ft deep on Carolina rigged french fry and lizards. Bed fishing during the spawn is one of the best ways to guarantee catching bass. Be sure to release the bass where you catch them so they can finish spawning. The males guard the beds after the females lay eggs so be sure to release them where you catch them. They will go right back to work guarding the bed.

How can I maximize my Carolina Rig fishing efficiency? I have never actually had anyone show me how to properly fish the Carolina Rig. It’s been trial and error for me, well honestly just error! Is there a key to fishing the rig? Like worm fishing, do you want to “slow down” a bit, or does it depend on certain variables? Is it good for deep and shallow water fishing? Does the bait have to be something that’s at least 4 inches? Thanks!
LMBassFish answers: Well Dan lets see if I can hit the high points and not write a book or get you all confused. LMAO 1-Carolina Rigs (CR) can be used in water from 10 – 45 ft. Or should say I have used them this way. 2-Minimum weight I use is 1/2 oz and have used as much as 1 oz. Depends on the depth you are fishing. My rule of thumb is 10 – 20ft 1/2 oz, 20-30ft 3/4 oz, deeper than that and its 1 oz.

3- I determine how long my leader will be by looking at my graph (fish finder) and seeing how far off the bottom the fish are holding, or if they are right on the bottom. The farther off the bottom the longer the leader you want up to 3 ft long, any longer and you might get all tangled up when you make your cast. NEVER make you leader stronger than you main line..PERIOD, enough said on that. 4- I never use any bait smaller than 6?. You can use a worm, creature bait, tube, and even a fluke.(soft plastic jerk bait) I do know guys that down size their CR’s and use 6? straight finesse worms using a 3/8 oz weight. 5- If there are grass beds in the lakes you fish, take a CR and throw it IN the grass then rip it out of the grass, when it breaks out and the bass see it, hang on….good idea to see bass on graph first tho LOL 6- Locations; Long tapering points that meet the channel, off shore humps, channel breaks or any where where there is a drop off. Throw you CR past the break let it contact the bottom. OK what I am going to tell you now is where most people mess up. DO NOT pull the CR with the rod vertical like you would a Texas rigged worm. Hold the rod off to the side and make short sweeps, by having the rod to the side gives you way more sweeping motion to set the hook instead of trying to do it over your head. Could go on but with this and what others will tell you hope you can get better at it. It takes time to learn the difference between the weight hitting a rock, stump, etc. And a strike, witch sometimes can just feel like resistance.. Good Luck and nice to see a good question for a change…:)) Don’t much care about the points either, just hope I was able to help you out some with the little amount of info we can put on here. Will see if I can find some links about CR for ya. Here ya go, hope these help!
