How to fish white bass on the maumee river? So does anyone have any good fishing tips and techneiques to catch white bass while standing in the maumee river? Like at Ft. Meigs or any of the other access sites?

LMBassFish answers: Not familiar with your area, but best place for white bass is on on rock walls and bluffs, or anyplace the water depth drops quickly from the shore.. If they are in water shallow enough to stand in, just aim for cover..

How long does it take to catch a fish? Im going fishing in a 15-acre pond stocked w/ trout and bass. How long must I wait b4 I catch one? Any other fishing tips appreciated. 10 pts for best response

LMBassFish answers: For bass, try surface lures, live bait, and imitation bait in the morning and evening in the shallows where they feed, while using spinners, buzzbaits, and floating plugs that dive on retrieve, along with other deep diving lures in the afternoon. Throw these to the deeper part of the pond, where bass take cover in the afternoon. Make sure that your artificial bait has scent in it, usually pork fat and salt. Texas and Carolina rigs work well. Using the right lures and baits at the right times, the fish should hit pretty quickly. For trout, salmon eggs, worms, and good ‘ol fly fishing should do the trick.

How do I take care of a baby bass? I caught a baby bass in the river near our house and I want to take care of it. It is about an inch long, and it is currently in a clear canning jar with a tadpole, some grasses from the river, and a small peice of wood for it to hide under. I also pulled my net all around and got some water bugs and other small things out of the river for it. I looked for info on google but it only provided fishing tips. ?Thanks.

LMBassFish answers: Make sure you have it in a larger container like an aquarium. I would catch some very very small crawdads (crayfish) and put in with it. They are natural food for the bass and would help clean the water. You could also get some of the small shrimp for the pet stores. They would be good food for it and also clean the water some. The fry bass usually eat very small minnows, crayfish, and just about anything that is small enough that it can’t eat them. With an aquarium you could also have an aerator that would add oxygen to the water. I had one that was about 5?. He lived in my aquarium for the winter then I released him back into the lake he came from. When I released him he had grown a couple inches. They are really fun to watch when they feed. Good luck with your baby.

Thomas asks…

my fiance wants a fish shaped cake for his grooms cake? I have found the cake pan, but can not find anywhere on how to decorate it. Do I need special tips, should I use a certain type of frosting, how do I make those colors? He wants it to look like a bass fish.

LMBassFish answers: If you got the cake pan, with no instructions, and you do not already know how to decorate…then I would find someone who knows how to decorate to do the cake. You are going to be very busy on your wedding and will not be wanting to try learning how to decorate a cake at that time. I don’t know if this is the same cake pan you have or not, but it shows how to decorate it. The icing used on this one is buttercream and the scales were made by using the end of the little spatula to make indentations in the icing. For the colors, I would buy the primary colors of, red, blue, and yellow, then mix to get the colors you need. You will probably need some black and brown also to get the shading you want. The fins on the fish in the photo were made from white

chocolate which was colored and shaped into the desired shape but they could also be made from the buttercream icing. Http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_0x9W32wcr3g/Rgr4k_dbH-I/AAAAAAAAADI/ucPABF3ZwEM/s400/Ba ss+Fish+004.jpg This is the buttercream icing recipe I always use and it is easy to work with and tastes great. BUTTERCREAM ICING 1 c. Butter or margarine 1 c. Crisco shortening 1/4 tsp. Salt 2 tsp. Vanilla 5-7 tbs heavy cream 2 lbs powdered sugar (about 8 cups) 1-3 tbs corn syrup Cream the butter, shortening, vanilla, and salt together. Add the powdered sugar, cream and syrup. Mix on low speed until powdered sugar is mixed in. Mix on med. Low speed for 10 to 15 minutes. When you can take a teaspoon of icing out and drop it on waxed paper and it holds it’s shape and seems firm…..then your icing is ready to decorate with. One batch of this icing will ice and decorate a quarter sheet cake 9×13. You may need more or less liquid depending on the weather. Very hot and humid out-add less cream, very dry-add more. And if you’re wondering about the corn syrup, it doesn’t add to the sweetness of the frosting but it does add elasticity to help keep the frosting from cracking and adds a nice ‘gleam’ to the cake.
