How to ice fish small ponds with bass, pickeral, and bluegill? How to ice fish small ponds with bass, pickeral, and bluegill?

LMBassFish answers: I would use a tip up with large minnows for the pickeral and bass. Try using wax worms for the gills. In many states you can use more than one line. Try both setups and see how it goes.

What are some tips for creating a beautiful fishing pond? It is for bass, but just as important, for the beauty of the scenery. I would really appreciate tips on species of trees for shade and scenery, grass, plants, and anything to help the pond become a small haven with a very natural presentation. Lengthy answers are very welcome. Thanks

LMBassFish answers: A good looking fishing pond thats almost asking “how do i build the coolest house ever” theres so many possibilities.. I hope i help in aiding your decision.. But i take it that you do have some money to spend… So here goes.. Cottonwoods – these trees are really good looking and grow big(if thats what you want) they have the two shaded leaves.. Green on one side and off-white on the other..i like that myself other than that… Try differnt types of maples(like japanese maples its a dark red leaf) and oaks.. I personally dont like evergreen trees b/c of the needles and sterilization they do to the ground. Shrubs.. You might try some boxwoods(the normal shrubs) or some crape myrtles if you want a lil color. I wouldnt use to many of these just b/c i would try to stick with trees as far as grass.. Im a HUGE bermuda fan… You keep it mowed and it will keep out almost every weed which is a huge plus.. It looks amazing when grown all the way up to the edge of the water. But you might also look at installing a fountain or two in the middle.. This will greatly help with aeration and add beauty too. Maybe have a lil stream that flows into and small ‘pond’ that overflows into your big pond.. Hook up a pump that sucks water from the pond and flows it down that stream.. Thenyou could put fish in the lil pond like koi or goldfish..

Linda asks…

How do I set the hook in small bass in the lip? I live near a small pond and the bass do not give much resistance. I know you are supposed to tug really hard when you feel the first bite, but I often don’t feel it right away and they swallow it. I stopped fishing because I didn’t like catching them in the throat, Is that why I’m catching them in the throat / inside mouth? I’m no expert, I just assume I leave too much time for them to swallow it. Any tips on how to catch them in the lips?

If they swallow the hook, just cut the lone, the hook will dissolve

im thinking of going bass fishing in my pond right now i need tips? the bass havent bitten lures in forever when i first dicovered they ate lures was in april then they stopped in may.should i try livebait or lures.what lures should i use i have some crawfish,rat-l-traps,chug bugs, that pop-r thing or whatever its called please help me .oh and any tips on how to stay cool its a hot day here in texas today.

LMBassFish answers: Crank baits on a light spinning rod, start with a surface popper, and begin to slowly retrieve, then if its still not catching change your lure to a deeper diving one that will fish closer to the bottom and occasionally stop the retrieve and wait then begin again, i wouldn’t use live bait just yet, unless that’s all you have, one last tip is attach your lure to the mainline with a length of

fluorocarbon line as this wont spook the fish, and as for keeping coll the only way is to drink lots of water and cover up from the sun and also make sure you wear sunglasses as if they are polarized then it will help you detect fish and also stop you from getting a headache from the sun reflecting from the water. If you have some rubber worms fish them deep because if its too hot there then theres a good chence the fish will be staying close to the bottom, you could also try fishing a little later on in the evening when its cooled down a little.

Donald asks…

Can trout be in a water area that has water lillies? What fish can be in an area with water lillies, cattails and frogbit? It’s for a school project and evey time I type in “pond” i get results for “make a pond in your backyard” and I just want to research a natural pond, any tips?

LMBassFish answers: Generally, that is more bass habitat than trout. Most trout require colder water, higher in dissolved oxygen. It is, however, possible to have artificial ponds that contain both the

vegetation you mention and certain trouts. The chances of natural ponds like that are slim.
