LMBassFish answers: Get a new rod and reel, get a saltwater rod and baitcasting reel, make sure you clean every thing good after saltwater fishing because the salt water will cause everyting to rust on the rod and real, good luck fishing !

George asks…

What should I know about tarpon fishing in Costa Rica? My brother has promised to take me tarpon fishing on the Rio Colorado, and I figure it’s the chance of a lifetime! I’ve only done your basic fishing for bass and bluegill before, and I know this will be a lot more, shall we say, athletic. And of course, I’ll be in a country I’ve never visited before. I know my brother will help me out with more info later on, but what can you tell me?

LMBassFish answers: You are going to one of the premier spots for tarpon fishing. Hire a guide, bring some cold beers(if you are into that sort of thing) and waders and have your game face on cause those suckers fight! Have a great trip.

Richard asks…

Is it legal to fish for game fish (walleye, bass, etc) on the St. Croix before the season opens? I’ve heard that since the St Croix River is a border river (Minnesota and Wisconsin Boarder) that it can be fished anytime of the year, regardless of whether the fish you’re fishing for is out of season. Anyone know for sure?

LMBassFish answers: If it isn’t legal in Minnesota and Wisconsin to “fish for game fish…before the season opens?”, WHY would it be legal to fish on the river that runs between them under the same circumstances. This is a common sense answer that really doesn’t require a whole lot of thought to process out. Think about it.

John asks…

Do “bleeding baits” help/make any real difference? So, when fishing for game fish, bass walleye, pike ect, do baits that appear to be bleeding catch more fish? Shad rap with blood spots Tube bait with red strands chatterbait with red spots on white hairs as apposed to charteruse.

LMBassFish answers: “Bleeding Baits” CAN make a difference; but not in the way, you might think. It is not he ‘bleeding” part that will attract a predaditory fish nor will it encourage them to bite you bait. Rather it is the contrast, caused by the ‘bleeding’ they see. In some conditions, this contrast WILL make a very big difference. As stated earlier, RED is the first color to disappear in water due to the color spectrum wavelength. (somewhere between 5 to 15 ft depending on water clarity). This does not mean that it becomes invisible, just that the color ‘red’ is not seen. It has yet to be proven what ‘shade-of-gray’ fish see in replacement of ‘red’. This same philosophy holds true for all the other colors too.
