Your Questions About Fish For Bass In Cold Weather
Nancy asks‌
How bad is fishing after a cold front? I am going to the Lake of the Ozarks this weekend and there is supposed to be a cold front comming through. Today was a high of 77 and low of 48. On Saturday this weekend it should be high of 70 low of 42. How bad will this affect the bass fishing on a rocky point?
LMBassFish answers: That’s not much of a change, very much like spring weather actually what effects more is water temp, clarity and the cloud cover.

What type of fish bite during the month of November? Why dont fish bite when i go fishing?
LMBassFish answers: They are not hungry, only hungry fish bite. Cold weather does slow down a fishes metabolism such as warm water fish, Bass, Catfish, Carp. And then cold water fish become more active, trout, salmon, pike

Could I fish this time of year in New England? I live in mass and we’ve had some seriously strange weather this year. It is unseasonably warm out and there is no snow. I got a new fishing pole and I’ve been aching to go fishing. The type of fish i’d be going after would be bass, crappie, pickerill, brown bullhead and anything that will bite really. The lake where i go is not completely frozen but does have some ice. So if, given the type of fish and unseasonable weather, i was wondering if anything might bite or if i should just wait until april or may.
LMBassFish answers: Yeah, the arctic air mass that is responsible for cold winter weather is stuck up north because another air current is keeping it up there. Give it a try, I certainly would.

I want to go fishing! What type of fish should I stock in a 4? deep, cement lined, well water fed pond? San Diego County, temperatures are mild. My experience fishing is in deeper water and colder climates. Is this pond is deep enough for a little fishing pond?
LMBassFish answers: At only 4ft it seems a little shallow, there will be very little protection for the fish, i think in places you will need depths of up to 8ft possibly 10, to give the fish a place to go in very cold weather or the opposite in very hot conditions, it also gives them a place for shelter and for food. Underwater structure is vital, plant life is a good option to as it will attract various aquatic life. Other items like submerged trees etc provide lots of cover for fish. With a deeper pond you could stock bass, trout, if its very muddy and has lots of deep holes catfish would thrive. You also need to consider oxygenating the pond by either plants or a water feed system, a lake that’s spring fed works very well.

Where are bass and bream when the weather is cold? I fish a few small ponds/lakes close to my house. It’s mid November right now and I am wondering where the fish are. Are the in deep water or shallow? Are they in the middle of the pond or around the banks? Also, what lures and baits would you suggest? Thanks
LMBassFish answers: Deep and still
