Your Questions About Largemouth Bass World Record
Donna asks…
What site can I use to see the name of fish, world record holder´s name, and what state the fish was caught in
LMBassFish answers: The IGFA (Brandon’s link above) keeps the records, but they don’t let the general public view them without paying for membership. (from $20/year for under 16 years old, $40/year for adults, all the way up to $1000/lifetime membership.) If you know the species you’re looking for, just do a search on Google or Yahoo for somethng like “World Record rainbow trout”, or “California Record largemouth bass.” There’s no guarantee there will be anything, but there might be, and it’s cheaper for someone who just wants to casually browse the records.

What is your favorite fish and why? just a fun question for all you aquarists. for example, i absolutely love pygmy corydoras. they’re like miniature hand-held vacuums when they eat, they look like they’re hovering midwater, and they’ve got tons of personality. they’re also really hardy little fish!
LMBassFish answers: Are you talking about favorite aquarium fish or just favorite fish in general? ‘Cause I honestly have both. My favorite aquarium fish is actually tied between two. First one is the Tiger oscar, Astronotus ocellatus… It’s been a few years since I’ve had one, but when the time comes, I want an oscar again. A big, mean, and belligerent bull male, one that I can associate with myself. It’s nice to have a fish with an attitude with that of the fish’s keeper. It would be nice to watch him explore his home, and move stuff around the way HE wants and likes it. It would be nice to feed him live food, and watch him chase, eat, and devour his prey… To watch him obliterate a crawdad would be awesome. It would be nice to watch him explore his surroundings and contemplate his various moves. It would be nice to just have him interact with me and be nice, then try to eat everyone else that isn’t me alive.

The second one is the Speckled peacock bass, Cichla temensis… These cichlids are the largest of all cichlids. The International Game Fish Association All Tackle World Record is 3 feet, 4 inches long with a weight of 28 pounds. In their homeland, they’re considered a prized game fish for their extrememe fighting qualities. And, because I’m a diehard, hard-to-the-core, through-’n-through bass fisherman, I find fish that have a reputation of damaging and sometimes even destroying fishing tackle when striking a lure an absolute plus. That’s completely awesome. They’re also a beautiful fish with dark rosettes instead of stripes, light speckles and impressive shades of bright green, orange, blue and gold. In my opinion, the bigger and older they are, the more gorgeous they are, especially when the big males get that big pronounced hump on their foreheads. Now… My All-Time favorite fish is the Florida-strain largemouth bass, Micropterus salmoides floridanus. You’re probably wondering why, right? Well… I’m almost 27 years old, and I have been chasing these fish for the past 25 years. Yeah, since I was 2. Like I said above, I’m a diehard, hard-to-the-core, through-’n-through bass fisherman.

What animal would you most like to be, and why?

LMBassFish answers: I’m actually kind of ashamed of being a human. The squirrel above is pretty lucky. Anyway, to answer the question… I would want to be a great white shark because they are the ULTIMATE predator and the most feared creature in the world. …OR… I would want to be the next International Game Fish Association All-Tackle World Record largemouth bass. Mainly because I would be the most sought after gamefish in the entire world and there would be a $2 1/2 million dollar bounty on me. However, there is one small drawback to being this particular fish… I would be a female more than likely and every little male buck bass would want to get in my pants for a little spawning.
Ruth asks…
what is the admirable size of balck bass to fish for american bass fishermen?
4/6
LMBassFish answers: If you’re referring to a largemouth bass in particular, anything over 10lbs is considered a “trophy” fish, or an “admirable size” as you put it. But if you catch one bigger than 22lbs – 4oz, the current all-tackle World Record, you will be admired by all American bass fisherman. Frank said the record is about 10lbs in most states. California’s state record is 25lbs – 1oz. In Lake Dixon, San Diego. Texas state record is 18.18lbs caught in Lake Fork in 1992.

8 lb test line class bass record? largemouth bass, world record if not florida state record will be fine?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5/6
LMBassFish answers: This site is five years old, and it only gives 4, 12, and 20 pound records, but it’s more to the point than the answers you’ve gotten: for Florida, 4 lb line: 7 lb 0 oz; 12 lb line: 8 lb 1 oz; 20 lb line: 8 lb 11 oz. That’s surprising to me — I’d have thought someone would have managed a 10+ pounder in Florida, at least on 20 pound line… But not all big fish get turned in for records, and probably most of the bigger ones are released after a quick photo and weighing on a hand scale. (California shows 17, 19, and 21 pounders.) http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/bassmaster/news/story?page=b_igfa_lineclass
