Coffee and croissants were trotted out on Friday morning in a bid to reward commuters that ditched their cars. Part of the Aotearoa Bike Challenge month, the ‘Go by Bike Day’ breakfast was hoped to encourage more people to cycle for work or fun. Council walking and cycling coordinator Braden Prideaux says last year 29 organisations took part in the challenge of riding to work during February. “We’re hoping to grow those numbers even further this year and see more people on bikes,” Braden says. During March council will run an adult cycle skills training programme.
