Femme Fatale Femme fatale is French for “deadly woman”. She is a mysterious woman who uses her sexy looks, beauty and charm to seduce all men around her. These men definitely fall for her and will do everything she asks them. A femme fatale hypnotizes her victims with a spell and so she will be followed and loved by all men. In some situations, she even uses lies or coercion to get her jobs done. And not even that is the worse she can do, this lady will get to know all about you and then uses your weaknesses to blackmail you until you break. Another list, while her greatest strength, is that she may also imply to be a victim, caught in a situation or place from which she cannot escape. The film The Lady from Shanghai is one such example. Here the femme fatale is called a fille fatale, or “deadly girl”. Both “femme fatale” and “fille fatale” usually drive men to the point of obsession and exhaustion, so that he is incapable of making rational decisions. Even though, it is not just a case of mental abuse. If the man is resistant to all beauty and lovely smiles, she will get physical. She makes use of some subduing weapon such as sleeping gas, pepper spray or tear gas. If the victim wakes up, she will be whipping off his head with a cute little tissue looking like she is scared to death and most of all concerned about his health. “How could something like that happen?” But, who are these women then? And have these women ever exist? If so, do they still exist? The answers on these questions are quite simple, because the answer is “yes”. Earlier, there was a woman named Mata Hari. She is born as Margaretha Geertruida “M’greet” Zelle in the Netherlands. She became an exotic dancer, escort girl and a spy. Later, she moved to Java with her husband. She was clearly a real femme fatale and also seduces all men around her. Nowadays, the real femme fatales are less mean and moreover dangerous. For example Sharon Stone and Rebecca Romijn are the “femme fatales” of the 21th century. They are both American actresses and former fashion models. Apparently, men love that combination and I bet they will do so until eternity remains.

How to be a Femme Fatale How to Act •

Speak in a seductive voice. Listen to Scarlett Johansson or Joan Crawford for an example of this kind of voice.

Hang out in mysterious places. Nothing sketchy or scary. Just unusual. Remember that when in interesting places, one meets interesting people. Try out an obscure, artsy coffee shop, clandestine night club, or unique antique shop.

Be “one of the guys.” Become comfortable hanging out with men. But whatever you do, don’t lose your feminine advantage.

Be mysterious. Don’t let everybody know what you are feeling or what’s going on. The very mystery proves to be the allure of the femme fatale.

Find something unique about yourself and exploit it. Some unusual interest, skill, accessory: anything. Individuality contributes to a mystical allure.

Be smart and have good manners. Being well-educated is something that will set you apart from the flock. Being beautiful with brains adds sex appeal.

What to Read and Watch •

Read the Bible. There are loads of iconic femmes fatale in the Bible: Eve, Judith, Salome, Pandora, and others.

• Read Greek Mythology. Like the Bible, the myths of the ancient Greeks are brimming with fatal women: Circe, Aphrodite, Medea, and Clytemnestra are just a few. •

Read popular fiction. Juliette by the Marquis de Sade, Die Büchse der Pandora by Frank Wedekind, Nana by Emil Zola, The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett, and Double Indemnity by James M. Cain all feature memorable femmes fatale.

Read comic books. Men in comic books are always being distracted by the wiles of women. Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Enchantress, Mystique, and Fujiko Mine are con stantly one-upping their male protagonists.

Watch old movies. Mildred Pierce, in particular, is a great movie to watch. Also, watch old film noir movies, like The Postman Always Rings Twice, Too Late For Tears, and Gilda.

006

What to Wear •

Wear dark, sexy, retro clothes. Not too gothic-looking, though. Think Eva Green, Angelina Jolie in the mid-’90s. Subtle, well-cut clothing that draws attention to you, but in a tasteful way. Stick to colors like black, maroon, and emerald green. Look for silk cocktail dresses, dark-wash, high-waisted jeans, expensive-looking dramatic jewelery, and fishnet tights or better still tights with a backseam and heels. A seductive fur is essential wardrobe.

Wear your hair in a distintive manner. A Veronica Lake wave is classic, for example. Wearing it in a dramatically short style is also a good choice. Stick to true, bold hair colors, like platinum blonde, dark brown, black, or auburn.

Wear pale foundation, ‘cat’s eye’ eyeliner, and red or maroon lipstick. Smokey eyes are also very good. Avoid glitter and teenager makeup at all costs.

Wear a signature scent. It will set you apart. And people will remember you.

You can do it!

Now a days, making a career comes first and after that comes starting a family. The average age women have their first child has increased in the last 30 years from 24 to 29. High educated women even wait until the age of 34! This has everything to do with the fact that women want to make a career and think that having a successful career isn’t possible with children. Of course, this is nonsense. You just need to know how to organize everything. First of all, of course, you have a day-care centre. You can drop your kids there if you have to go to work and pick them up when you are done working. Some people don’t like the idea of having their children in day-care all day, so they choose to work part time, so they can work a half week, and the other half they can spend with their children. But if you don’t want to work that little, you can always ask your boss if you can do some of your work at home. That way you can stay with your kids and when they sleep, you can do your work. Then here are 2 things that you probably didn’t know, but are useful to know. • When a woman just had a baby, the husband or boyfriend also has the right to have maternity leave. • You have the right to feed your child, while you’re working. Furthermore, let me give you an example of a powerful woman who combines work with being a mom.

Madonna, one of the greatest artists in history. She gave birth to her first child, Lourdes Maria, on October 14, 1996. In 2000 she gave birth to her second child, Rocco Ritchie. In October 2006 she filed adoption papers for David, a 1 year old boy from Malawi. D avid had been suffering from pneumonia after surviving malaria and tuberculosis when she first met him. In 2009 she adopted her last child, Mercy James, also from Malawi. In this same period of 13 years, she released different albums, did some tours and had a lead in a movie. So ladies, never think that you need to make a career before you start with your own family. You can do it all at the same time! And don’t forget, time doesn’t wait for no one. Your biological clock keeps ticking. 008

The more the merrier

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have become the example of “the more the merrier” cliché, as the couple has plans to adopt a 7th child to add to the Brangelina gang. According to a report from British tabloid The Daily Star, Jolie and Pitt will adopt a 7th baby from Ethiopia as a promise to their six-year-old daughter, Zahara. “They are really excited about it,” an anonymous source told The Daily Star. “Brad and Angie made a promise to Zahara years ago that they would adopt another child from the region so she could have a sibling to relate to.” The couple already has six children, three of which were adopted, Maddox, 10, adopted from Cambodia, Pax, 7, adopted from Vietnam and Zahara from Ethiopia, and three biological children, Shiloh, 5, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 3. “Also, seven has always been Brad’s lucky number. He and Angelina think it would bring them luck and happiness,” the source said. Earlier this year, rumors circled the couple as Jolie was spotted in Tunisia with a tattoo including seven coordinates, each representing the birthplace of their children. While some speculated the 7th coordinate was for a new child, Jolie clarified, saying it represented Pitt’s birthplace in Shawnee, Okl. “Well if they know that it’s latitude and longitude they would have figured out quickly that it was Brad’s birthplace,” Jolie told Extra in May. “It doesn’t take much investigation to figure that one out.” In the same interview with Extra, Jolie spoke of her past comments about having a family large enough to “put together a football team.” “I’m on my way,” Angelina Jolie said about having a large family, a plan she’s had in the works before adopting Maddox almost a decade ago. However, when asked if she would be expanding the family anytime soon, Jolie responded, “Not at this time.” Pitt, who announced last week that the end of his acting career is approaching, has also said in the past he would like a big family. “I had a friend who had a big family when I was a kid,” Pitt said. “I just loved the chaos around the breakfast table and the fighting and the ribbing, and the mom making pancakes for everyone or the dad making pancakes. And I just decided then if I was ever going to do it - this left some indelible mark on me - if I was ever going to do it, that’s the way I was going to do it.” Brad Pitt cited the end of his acting career as “other interests,” like producing and developing stories, but has mentioned the difficulty juggling sex children along with an acting career.

010

“I want to spend my time with them. I’m not having enough time with them, so I push for that and then ultimately, we all have to go to work,” he told the Daily Record last week. “With six kids it’s all about time allocation now.”

This one’s for mama 3FM Serious Request is an annual action from a Dutch radio station where money is collected for charity. Three DJ’s are locked up in a Glass House and are not allowed to eat. At the same time they play the whole day and night songs that are requested by listeners who give a donation to their charity. Also many famous Dutch people visit the house and several special items are auctioned. This campaign takes place in December just before Christmas. So last month there was a big amount of money collected for this charity. The revenues of this year will be going to mothers that suffer from war or other conflicts. That’s why the name of this campaign was: This one’s for mama. This is a catastrophe where globally around 10 million women suffer from the consequences of war and conflicts. Because mothers are the basis of society and they are hit, unasked, really hard by conflicts and violence. Often they have to run away with their children and lose everything. These women don’t get attention and that’s why it is so important that they get the attention they deserve. Because of the Dutch campaign of 3FM these women will be helped. This is possible since there was 8.621.004 euro collected. This is a tremendous amount of money, where women can get a basis to take care of their children and other tools to generate some income. These women can start living again because of this campaign. Also in Sweden, Switzerland, Kenya and Belgium there was a Glass House to collect money for this silent disaster. All the campaigns combined in these five countries led to a total amount of 22.940.773 euro!

International Women’s Day Centanary sees largest ever activity London, March 2, 2011: March 8 sees the highest level of global women’s activity ever witnessed as groups celebrate the International Women’s Day centenary. The first International Women’s Day events were run in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland in 1911 and attended by over one million people. 100 years on, International Women’s Day (IWD) has become a global mainstream phenomena celebrated across many countries and is an official holiday in approximately 25 countries including Afghanistan, Russia, Ukraine, Vietnam and Zambia. 8 March sees extensive global women’s activity. Performer and social activist, Annie Lennox, will lead a mass march across London’s Millennium Bridge for charity. In Washington D.C. over a thousand people will descend on Capitol Hill demanding a better world for millions of marginalized women and girls around the globe. A major international businesswomen’s conference will be hosted in Sydney, Australia. Schools and governments around the world are participating in the day. Trade Unions and charities are campaigning. Global corporations are hosting conferences and distributing extensive resource packs. The United Nations Secretary-General delivers a formal message. The United States even designates the whole month of March as Women’s History Month as officially proclaimed by President Obama on February 28, 2011. International Women’s Day is a global celebration of the economic, political, and social achievements of women past, present, and future. However, activity has not always been on the increase. Australian entrepreneur and women’s campaigner Glenda Stone, who founded the www.internationalwomensday.com website, a global hub of events and information, said:

“A decade ago International Women’s Day was disappearing. Activity in Europe, where International Women’s Day actually began, was very low. Providing a global online platform helped sustain and accelerate momentum for this important day. Holding only a handful of events ten years ago, the United Kingdom has now become the global leader for International Women’s Day activity, followed sharply by Canada, United States and Australia. 2011 will see thousands of events globally for the first time.”

More recently, social networking websites like Twitter, Facebook and Youtube have also helped fuel International Women’s Day activity. Generally the day has moved away from its socialist Suffragette beginnings to become more mainstream in celebrating women’s achievements. Women’s rights campaigners, however, continue to remind that vigilance rather than complacency is essential in striving for women’s equality. Glenda Stone, http://www.internationalwomensday.com/

Donatella Versace

Donatella Versace is an Italian fashion designer who was born in the Italian city of Reggio di Calabria. When she was a little girl she was the inspiration for her older brother, Gianni Versace. Gianni Versace was also a fashion designer and founder of an international fashion house, which produces accessories, fragrances, make-up and home furnishings as well as clothes. He also designed costumes for the theatre and films and was a friend of a lot of famous stars like Madonna and Elton John. In 1978 Gianni started an own company with his brother Santo and in the 80’s he developed a perfume named ‘Blonde’, which was named after Donatella.

Donatella presented her first clothing in 1993. She designed it for children and was called ‘Versace young’. After this she was appointed as head designer for Versus. In 1997 her brother Gianni Versace was shot in front of his own home in Miami. He died and Donatella took over his duties and became the new chief designer. One year after the dead of her brother, she had her first fashion show in the Ritz-hotel in Paris. Nowadays, Donatella is the queen of Italian fashion and is well known worldwide. Jennifer Lopez, Paris Hilton, Angelina Jolie, Leighton Meester, Blake Lively, January Jones, Anne Hathaway they all wear Versace. Versace belongs to the category of top brands such as Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana. On November the 17th, the new autumn collection Versace for H&M was launched. The theme of the collection is iconic Versace pieces through the history of Versace. It was a great success and everything was sold out in a very short period of time. But don’t worry; there will be a sequel to this cooperation with Versace and H&M with a spring/summer collection. This will contain a lot of pastel colours, sandals with straps, hot pants, bikinis and of course gold jewellery, such as we expect from Donatella Versace: “I know that with the H&M collaboration I’m going to reach a much wider audience than usual. When I’m going to see young people walking in the street wearing iconic pieces its going to be fun. Versace stands for sensuality, colour, fun, and energy. And this work is the H&M collection.”

Three top women fashion trends

Tips and News for Winter 2011-2012 How to Look Fabulous this Winter Without Breaking the Bank!

Here are my top 3 fashion favourites for this Winter. But please be aware that Gina is a little cautious of catwalk fashion. First because I can't afford those designer prices and second, because what looks fine in an air conditioned building in Milan, New York or London will not stand up well to driving rain and icy gusts. Incidentally, some of those catwalk models would literally be blown away by a typical storm where I live! These girls need a few decent meals and wrapping up in some sensible, warm clothes! Anyway here are my hot fashion picks.

ONE: Military Lets start with the military look. From jackets to coats the military trend still has loads of mileage. But there is a definite trend away from the army surplus or goth look towards something more stylish and tailored. A key element in these coats and jackets is a double breasted style with symmetrical military buttons. Yes, military remains a trend for 2011 but it has evolved from the earlier Spring look that was more 19th century Georgian or Victorian.

TWO: Aviator Following on from the military look is the Aviator. This is typically characterised by a leather jacket, usually shearling or sheepskin, with a very high collar that is cosy and snug on cold winter days. But you can still achieve the overall look with a biker or bomber jacket. You can then add an aviator scarf and a suitable hat or cap. Finally add some boots, over the knee boots look great, and leather gloves. The look can be presented in lots of different ways from androgynous shirt, thin tie and trousers to a more feminine look with handbag, floaty scarf, long or short skirt and colourful opaque tights.

THREE: Femme Fatale Film Noir and the Femme Fatale

The new look is more functional and utilitarian and inspired by the military uniforms of the 20th century. As well as the more traditional colours of black, beige or khaki you can also find stylish jackets in navy blue, red, yellow or grey.

Last winter there was a subtle echo of the Femme Fatale on the fashionable sidewalks of New York, Chicago and even on the pavements and boulevards of London and Paris. Femme fatale is a look that never really goes out of fashion.

You can wear a military jacket with either a skirt or a pair of trousers. Boots look great too and the package should be decidedly feminine; easy on the testosterone.

In 2011, the ghosts of the silver screen sirens have returned to haunt the fashion world once more.

So when wearing your military jackets, pair them with ruffles, pleated skirts, opaque tights and fitted jeans or leggings. Then add some accessories, for example a great bag, to complete the themed, girly look.

Think Rita Hayworth, Barbara Stanwyck or Marlene Dietrich ensnaring their lovers in bonds of irresistible desire. So what is a Femme Fatale? Originally the femme fatale decorated Film Noir with fabulous coats and slinky dresses and gowns. She was the gangster’s moll, the bad girl on the bar stool or the sinister sound of high heels on the sidewalk. She was highly seductive, had a great figure and legs to die for.

Pureness of female Rock ‘n Roll singers Janis Joplin taking over the seventies with her appearance and a huge musicality, rocking on Woodstock. Where did that time go? She cleared the way for other female rock singers and made it easy to make it in the hard and fast world of rock ‘n roll. Nowadays it is not that hard to become a female rock singer. Computers can give you a rock ‘n roll voice and fashion designers can give you a rough appearance. What happened to the time when rock ‘n roll music was honest? The female singers that have a real rock ‘n roll voice and not one that is made with a computer. Why aren’t there more new singers like Janis Joplin? I believe that is because nowadays the majority does not respect the old rock ‘n roll music anymore. Off course along with me there are other true music lovers out there, people who love and respect the old rock ‘n roll music even, just like me, the younger ones who did not live in the seventies. I love the pureness that hide behind their rock ‘n roll. They really wanted to share their music. These are true music lovers that I respect. Don’t get me wrong off course I also respect singers from this time. One of them that is definitely Alison Mosshart from the kills. She’s really one with the music, you can see it in her performances. With her tough appearance and amazing rough voice she really knows how to knock you off your feet. She goes up in the music and it’s a beautiful thing to see. I wish there were more female singers like Janis Joplin and Alison Mosshart, off course there are, but there are much too little… Unfortunately my wish is just a dream. I think the world has closed a period full of honest rock ‘n roll music. There are a few left and maybe more will follow but I will never know how it is like to live like the seventies. Now we can only enjoy and learn from stories off those who did experience a honest rock ‘n roll time, listen to vinyl and try to understand true rock ‘n roll.

Rock songs no road trip can do without When you’re on a road trip you need many things, one of the most important is great music! I’ve picked 6 classic records to make your trip that little bit better!

Chairlift Something

1. Twisted Sister-I Wanna Rock. Weirdly I first heard this during the movie ‘Road Trip’ and I’ve never forgotten it. It’s a brash, over the top, classic 80s rock anthem. It’s perfectly suited for life on the open road. Feet will tap, heads will nod and you’ll find yourself pressing repeat.

In 2008, these kids made the Brooklyn scene with a song that got heavy iPod-commercial rotation ("Bruises") and an album of spookily sexy, PJ Harvey-meets-Eurythmics synth pop they claim was designed for haunted houses. Four years later, they've set aside such Scooby-Doo-ish pretensions and brightened things up, embracing the refined, airy side of 1980s New Wave with help from alt-rock production heavies Alan Moulder and Dan Carey. Singer Caroline Polachek still plays the towering ice queen on dark-angled ballads like "Cool as a Fire," but there’s tons of swooning bliss here, too – on the majestically crushed-out "I Belong in Your Arms" she beams, "Feelings are good/ Nothing to say," and the synths shine like Molly Ringwald’s earrings. Written by: Jon Dolan

2. The Rolling Stones-Midnight Rambler Released back in 1969 this song has everything for when you’re all a bit tired, it’s near the end of the day and everybody is reflecting. The harmonica and guitar riffs are legendary and the album version especially is epic! 3. AC DC-Highway To Hell This is possibly the ultimate road trip song. It has everything and is one of the most famous records ever made. It’s a completely timeless rock classic that will instantly have you rocking in your seat whatever the hangover and how tired you are. 4. Steppenwolf-Born to be Wild How can anyone not love this record? It’s simply awesome! Somewhere along the line people stopped making music like this and the golden age of rock and roll was lost. This record lives on however. I challenge anyone not to turn the volume up when this comes on the radio. 5. The Rolling Stones-Start Me Up May be your nursing a hangover, your overtired may be even feeling unwell. Put this record on and you’ll be rejuvenated this is the record to start a day on the open road with. 6. Ray Charles-Hit The Road Jack Despite a running time of just over 2 minutes, this is Ray Charles at his absolute best and is a stunning record. The piano, Ray’s voice and the chemistry with back vocalist Margie Hendricks is ridiculously infectious. Put this on and you will be pressing repeat over and over again! Written by Rufus Elliot

Rihanna Talk That Talk Four years and 10 huge hits ago, released an album called Good Girl Gone Bad. She's never gone back. Today, Rihanna is pop's bad-girl-in-chief. You could call her the heir to the blues tradition of double-entendre salaciousness, except that, in Rihanna's songs, double-entendres are dispensed with. Come here, rude boy, boy, can you get it up? Chains and whips excite me. Innuendo? That's so 20th century. Rihanna, the definitive 21st-century hitmaker, prefers to talk that talk. Rihanna’s sixth album is her tightest, most assured yet – a relentlessly catchy and danceable pop album, with first-rate contributions from top songwriter-producers (The-Dream, No I.D., Dr. Luke, Stargate). It’s also Rihanna’s smuttiest record by far. It begins with "You Da One," a chewy stick of bubblegum with a juicy center. ("Shouldn't have hit it like that/Had me yelling like that," Rihanna chides.) Elsewhere, the lyrics are several shades bluer. In "Cockiness (Love It)," Rihanna coos, moans and unleashes slick dancehall-style rapping over a refrain that minces no words: "I love it when you eat it. . . . Suck my cockiness/Lick my persuasion." Once in a while she stops the sex talk to unleash an "Umbrella"-esque wide-angle-lens ballad. But usually love takes a backseat to more immediate gratifications. Bad Girl Gone Badder.

Why do men adore a Femme Fatale Imagine her beautiful and lovely long legs. Her delightful lips and when she walks by you can smell her gorgeous long hair and her sweet perfume. You know she is different than all the other women you know. She is the kind of a woman that makes your heart pumps faster. After a while you get in touch with her, everything is going perfect. But one thing is for sure, she eventually will break your heart. But still you can’t leave her because you don’t want to lose her . And why is this? It is not because both of you are intensively in love with each other, why then? Is it maybe to show the other men that you have a beautiful lady and they don’t, knowing they fantasies about a woman like her. So basically you are showing off with her , deep inside knowing that she will tear your heart in pieces. Or is it that your wildest fantasy has come to reality with this gorgeous and super sexy lady. After all you were dreaming about a woman like this and now you have her, despite you aren’t really happy with her, you don’t want to be without her. So it looks like it is all about “look what I’ve got, you can’t get her but I can’’. I think we all have to realize that everybody is playing some sort of game with each other and using each other for some purposes . A Femme Fatale is using her hotness and that she has something mysterious to seduce men . And men are showing off with them and they are basically saying with their body language , look isn’t she a beauty. As we all know men are simple creatures and they don’t think complicated like women do. So they don’t act complicated, for example it is just like when a guy has a brand new sports car and showing his friends and strangers on the road, basically saying ‘’ look what I am driving’’, look what an expensive car I drive. This is the same thing with women especially with a beautiful woman. The idea is harmless but men shouldn’t forget that a Femme Fatale is much more dangerous than a sports car with a powerful engine. After all a broken leg or arm will heal but you won’t be able to heal a broken heart.

Femme Fatale The black widow of Film Noir She was a predator; she was the antagonist. There was nothing honorable about her, from her selfish thoughts to her shameless actions. She came into view with a purpose and left victims in her wake; they were the spoils of her crusade for personal gain. She was a woman with venom so toxic that the most intrepid male would be rendered helpless in her grip. She was the femme fatale.

The mother of all Films Noir is 1944’s Double Indemnity, with Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck. It wasn’t, however, the first. 1941’s The Maltese Falcon is generally considered our first step into cinematic darkness. The United States was still in the middle of World War II, and the majority of sons, brothers and husbands were away. Many believe noir filmmakers to have opposed the war entirely, releasing their cramped aggression towards the country’s decisionmakers through their work. That would certainly make sense and explain the noir style surfacing before war’s end. However, the most interesting element is the portrayal of a ‘spider-woman’ so early in the game. If symbolism is any guide, one could surmise that a poisonous female was the representation of life in general. In an era headlined by things out of everyday man’s control, the term ‘life’s a ____’ takes on a new meaning. In creating this heartless woman, noir reversed the stereotype of a weaker sex and propelled her into a newfound iciness. The role of the femme fatale was to obtain, by any means, her darkest desires. She rarely held an ordinary job, but rather worked full-time as a deceptive siren. Sex was her most valuable asset, the prospect of which blindfolded the male conscience while she lured him into an unavoidable web. Such was the case in Sunset Boulevard. Joe Gillis (William Holden) is a struggling screenwriter held captive by a delusional, forgotten silent film star (‘Norma Desmond’ played by Gloria Swanson). Gillis hopes to revive his own fading career by proofreading the script of Desmond’s ‘comeback’ movie. Unbeknownst to him, she resurrects her glory days through his youthfulness; however, it’s painfully obvious that she’ll never return to Hollywood’s circle of the elite. Desmond has little reason to exist if not for the glorification of her ego and Gillis is nothing if not successful. While Gillis believes he has no physical attraction to the aging actress, there is a subtle undertone of needing an experienced woman. He hasn’t been imprisoned; in fact, he freely departs at night and returns of his own will despite Desmond’s eccentricities. The only trap is a burgeoning mental stronghold that shatters Gillis' resolve and turns him into a lifeless robot. IThe leading lady of noir was not always deliberately evil. Gilda is a much celebrated noir from 1946 that teetered on the threshold of intention and circumstance. Rita Hayworth plays the title character, and while she is the catalyst for much of the film’s negativity, the audience can’t help but feel some level of sorrow for her. She appears to be made of two different women, one who can handle herself and the other a frightened child with no sense of direction. Gilda is a case of backfire in some regards. Filmmakers who intended to kick dirt on the principles of women may have done so without consideration for the end result. For example, when historians analyze Gilda, they remember it primarily for Rita Hayworth’s performance. They are prone to memorize the words to ‘Put the Blame on Mame’ rather than focus on any male victims in the film. Men will still be men. Granted, the primal nature of the male hormones is what makes them an easy target 026 for the prowling femme;

though, it causes the male audience to miss the point. Female moviegoers are more likely to be insulted and appalled. In later years, neo noir became the echo of the 1940s. Martin Scorcese’s After Hours, released in 1985, is a stunning example of revamping noir’s paranoid yesterdays. Griffin Dunne plays a man trapped in the maze of New York City, constantly pursued by unstable women who eventually try to harm him in some fashion. The film is shot almost entirely at night, adding the ambiance of unseen forces at work. Scorcese also used quirky camera angles, including one shot of Dunne busting through a door, as seen from overhead. Camera angles were another characteristic of film noir. They served to isolate and confine the subject to a single frame. This, coupled with the trap of the cold-blooded female, left no way out. That is the ultimate definition of the black widow; she left no way out. She was one of the biggest representations of film noir as a whole. The femme fatale lived in her own sinister town, one without law enforcement or confessions. There were no consequences for bad judgment or penalties for crime. She strolled along the city streets under a dim lamp. While she has worn the face of many actresses over the years, her shadowed personality has never wavered. On film, she has achieved the immortality of a non-human entity. Perhaps that was the final goal of the filmmakers ‘ to create a woman whose wickedness would transcend the passing decades.

Is he just after Sex? It’s obvious when a guy is super into you, but it’s not always clear what his motives are. And it’s no secret that sometimes his motives are just to get you in to bed – and not down the aisle.

Push It Men who are only after one thing can make some crazy promises. He’ll tell you all kinds of things you know can’t be true: that he’ll take you on exotic coastal vacation or that you’ll “just cuddle.” If it sounds too good to be true…

If you feel the same way, that’s great, but if it’s a relationship you’re after, you’d better learn how to look for clues that you can’t count on him for a commitment.

Talk Is Cheap What do you guys talk about? If he makes a lot of raunchy jokes or innuendo, he could be testing the waters to see if how willing you are to connect sexually. Do you only discuss superficial stuff, like movies, music and how wasted he got last weekend? Or does he ask you bond-building questions about your life, work, or family? He’s not planning on making it to boyfriend status if he’s unwilling to talk about more serious stuff.

Impersonal Planning Take note of how he communicates with you, too. Beware the guy who relies on texts, emails and instant messages. Texts are fine for flirty communiqué or to check in, but someone who’s serious will want to do more than just connect digitally. He’ll call and plan “real” dates that include things like daylight, clothing and sobriety. Charming Reruns Look for routines. A dude who plies you with the same generic compliments repeatedly, or retells the same “hilarious” stories could be a player running on autopilot. What seemed like a real connection when you met might actually be an act he uses to impress women. Be wary if he keeps taking you to the same restaurants or planning the same evening out. A serious guy will put more effort into your dates, instead of going for what’s cheap or convenient. 030

Man of Mystery You’ve heard mention of his family, but he’s not in a hurry to introduce you. He resists your offers to meet him at work and his family barely merits mentioning. If you’ve never met anyone in his social circle, he could be purposefully keeping you out of the loop. Because once your lives overlap like that, it’ll be harder to untangle himself from your union.

Not Relationship Material Some guys are up front about their intentions early and will warn you with statements like, “I’m not ready for a real relationship yet” or “I’m just really focusing on work right now.” LISTEN TO HIM. Don’t trick yourself into believing he’ll come around once he gets to know you. When he says ‘not now’ he
