Just a few hours after I landed in Mexico City, I found myself dancing in the streets, or rather, on a boat in the oating gardens of Xochimilco. Intoxicated by the rousing rhythms of a mariachi band, I just had to dance, and for the rest of my trip, I kept moving to that same vibrant Mexican beat: the spirit of Frida Kahlo.
I visited the ‘Casa Azul’ (‘Blue House’) where Frida was born and and spent much of her life -sometimes with and sometimes without Diego Rivera- and I was moved to tears seeing her paints still neatly lined up next to the wheelchair in front of her easel. I strolled through her lovely, lively neighborhood market, the Mercado Coyoacan, imagining Frida buying one of her fabulous folkloric dresses here. Not surprisingly, this is one of the best places for street food.

Sun, sand & scissor kicks! I see working out as a treat, not as a punishment. Now, anyone who knows what my personal trainer looks like might wink and say: “Sure you do!” And true enough, Patrick van Luijk, –a 6 ft 3 half-Jamaican Olympic athlete– is a total hunk. But he is not the main reason I love working out so much. Training gives me energy, it keeps me sharp and strong. And that hot bikini body? Another very nice bonus. Patrick likes to push me. He isn’t happy till I can barely walk and I’m about to throw up. That, to him, is a sign that it was a good work out. So when I casually asked him to give me a few excercises to do during my beach holiday, Patrick –never one to do things half-assed– created a crazy hardcore schedule that would have taken up my entire holiday and made me crawl home afterwards. I had to ask him: “Did you accidentally mix up the words ‘vacation’ and ‘Olympic training camp’?" Oh well, that’s what you get for having a top athlete as a personal trainer...

Jasmine: Yes, I was working full-time as a model from the age of 19. I was fascinated by the many different ideas surrounding health and nutrition and over the years developed a way of eating that made me feel energized and toned. Through this I found that natural, easy to digest and nutrient dense foods were what truly counted despite whatever ‘fads’ were being hailed by the media. Melissa: Jasmine soon begun sharing tips and tricks with friends, family and myself. I was working as a footwear brand manager and later in marketing and promotion for gastropubs and bars but soon caught the bug and helped spread the word.
