SCHOLARSHIPS An Unshakeable Focus On Learning
“When you make a gift, you positively impact a student’s future trajectory.” – JoAnn Lighty

or nearly 25 years, College of Engineering graduates have been overcoming the world’s challenges by inventing new technologies and forging new ground. However, all of our alumni began their careers as students, and many succeeded and graduated with the help of scholarships. Within the ranks of our students today, the pioneers and innovators of tomorrow, a growing number have been deeply affected by the pandemic, putting them at risk for delaying graduation or dropping out altogether. Each new class of engineering, computer science, and construction management graduates represents the workforce we need to help the economy recover and create solutions to the problems of the future.

We are proud of our remarkable students who consistently rank among the highest performing students on campus. College of Engineering undergraduates make up more than 16% of Honor’s students. Our students dominate entrepreneurial competitions and are actively engaged in a variety of on-campus activities and clubs. Thanks to a world-class faculty, our students are also involved with projects, grants, publications, and media exposures through undergraduate research opportunities! A closer look at the students who received scholarships last year reveals a few common themes. • • • • • • •
Often first in the family to attend college Several completed associate degrees before transferring to Boise State Working part-time, and even full-time, and self-funding their education Often supporting families, or even extended families Active in campus clubs, projects, leadership roles Nearly 90% pursue undergraduate research and internship opportunities Role models for others who may only dream of an engineering degree
“My wife and I would like to thank the donors from the bottom of our hearts. As for myself, a veteran adjusting to life after the military, and my wife a medical student living on loans and the GI bill, this scholarship has given us peace of mind as we work towards finishing school.” – Joshua Hatch Electrical Engineering Student
Every Dollar Makes a Difference in a Life Scholarships have been a fundraising priority for the College of Engineering for two decades. In particular, our programs of study require course/professional fees the last two semesters as the curriculum is project-based. In 2020-21, the college awarded 225 scholarships valued at more than $310,000. While the majority of scholarships are funded by alumni who received scholarships themselves as students, we also have industry support.
