At Marquette, Deonte Tanner, Comm ’17, never shied away from a challenge. “Many times, I could have accepted defeat, whether it was in a class or in my work, but didn’t,” he says. “Every opportunity prepared me for life after graduation.”

❤ Kate (Christiansen) Ollhoff, Eng ’21, and Brandon Ollhoff, Eng ’19, wed Sept. 24, 2022, at Old St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milwaukee. The couple lives in Minneapolis.

It did indeed. Tanner is the founder of Servants for Hope, a Chicago nonprofit that serves economically marginalized communities. He and volunteers started with Christmas turkey giveaways and then branched out to provide families with needed Christmas gifts, educational resources and groceries. This Thanksgiving, Servants served meals to 850 families. And it distributed 2,000 Christmas gifts to children in need, including one for every student at Chicago’s Carver Elementary School.
