Our Camper Program Our Mission Quinebarge inspires campers to challenge themselves and to try new activities in a safe and supportive setting with staff helping each child grow, learn and achieve their goals. Whether it’s learning to ride a horse or creating a camp game, we foster a spirit of community and cooperation. A respect for nature is embedded into our rich tradition of camp life that includes outdoor activities, campfires, songs, skits and cabin living. I unplugged from the virtual world - and it was surprisingly fun!

Our goal is to provide a safe and fun setting for kids to learn, grow and make friends. Our program includes counselor led cabin living, daily activities and evening campfires. We are an unplugged camp – meaning that campers are not permitted electronics. And, while it’s hard to imagine, our campers quickly adapt to what might be considered a “consequence” at home and have fun, too!

Daily Schedule Camp Quinebarge maintains a daily schedule which allows campers to select their activities while enjoying cabinbased and weekly all-camp events. Extra Opportunities and Activities Trips to the coasts of Maine and New Hampshire and to the White Mountain National Forest offer campers the opportunity to experience the New England outdoors. Special events such as the Monkeytown Carnivals, presentations by guest artists, and multi-age camp wide activities highlight the summer. These opportunities are considered part of our Quinebarge program, there is no extra charge.

Accreditation The health and safety of our campers are our primary concerns. The camp is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) which review staff qualifications and training, emergency management, program quality, health and safety standards and much more. Camps must comply with 230 standards to qualify for ACA Accreditation. Additionally, Camp Quinebarge meets all the standards of the state of New Hampshire and the American Red Cross (for our waterfront activities).

Activities to inspire, explore & enjoy Quinebarge offers over 20 activities for campers to choose from, which fall under several broader categories: Swimming, Boating, Arts & Crafts and Ceramics, Woodshop, Nature, Horseback Riding, Sports, Adventure and Wall, and Trips. Campers choose their activities schedules, with the exception of mandatory swim lessons, on a weekly basis, so even campers who attend a mini-session can try almost everything Quinebarge has to offer. Swim Lessons Camp Quinebarge believes that safety in and around water is an essential life skill. Each and every camper participates in daily American Red Cross swim lessons with certified Water Safety Instructors. We cover everything from the beginners, just learning to tread water, to advanced swimmers who work up to swimming the length of Lake Kanasatka. Boating Getting out on the lake – in a canoe, kayak, sailboat, or other small craft – is a great way for our campers to experience the beauty of the Lakes Region, and to learn a bit more about water safety. All boaters, even Lifeguards, wear lifejackets, and go over technique and safety before leaving the beach. When campers aren’t learning how to sail or paddle, they love using our Surf Bikes, stand-up paddle boards! Arts & Crafts and Ceramics Our art department consists of Arts & Crafts and Ceramics. Throughout the summer, campers can be found creating masterpieces in the Ceramics Shed or Arts and Crafts loft. This activity takes kids all over camp, to find inspiration in the scenery, or to collect natural materials for eco-art. We use air-dry clay in Ceramics, so our campers can paint and take home their pinch pots, bowls, and figurines. Wood Shop Campers who elect Wood Shop showcase their creativity by designing, cutting (under supervision), building, and painting their own wood projects during their session. Campers not only learn about the creative process and work with other campers, they have an original piece of artwork to display at home. Nature With 65 acres of forest and 1,250 feet of lakefront, Camp Quinebarge is an ideal natural classroom. Every camper participates at least once per mini session in our nature program, where they learn about plants, animals, and environmental topics. They walk our wooded trails, learning about local flora and fauna, learn about the importance of water on the lake, and have even been known to bake goodies in our solar cookers.

Horseback Riding Our riding program is open to all campers who wish to try it out, without any extra fees. With four to six horses and small groups, campers who choose this activity are guaranteed to ride every day. When campers aren’t riding, by choice or due to the weather, they learn about caring for horses, and pitch in with the chores – feeding, watering, mucking, and brushing. We offer both English and Western riding, as well as trail rides, with experienced instructors who love horses and kids!

Sports/Adventure & Climbing Wall Our extensive sports program isn’t just about team sports; it encompasses field and court sports, archery, biking, climbing, and our ropes course. The offerings are practically endless: 

Soccer

Climbing Wall

Basketball

Street/floor hockey

Lacrosse

Ultimate Frisbee

Softball

Tennis

Cricket

Archery

Kickball

Four square

Quidditch

Biking

Rounders

Low Ropes Course

Gaga

High Ropes Course

Volleyball

Zip line and more!

The focus in the games is on fun, not winning, and campers get the chance to try a new sport each and every day. Archery is taught by certified instructors at our Archery Range, where safety always comes first. At the Climbing Wall, trained and certified belays coach campers to the top. Our Low and High Ropes courses are perfect for learning communication, cooperation, and teamwork. Camper complete the low elements first, and are then challenged with a climb through our high elements, ending with a glide down the zip line.

Trips With multiple mountain ranges within driving distance, our campers have the chance of a lifetime for some great hiking. We offer both day and overnight trips, locally and as far as Mount Washington for hikers of all levels. For the water lovers, there is always a trip on a lake, pond, or river in our Old Town canoes, or even a rafting trip on the Kennebec River in Maine.

Cabin Life, Traditions & Monkeytown Cabin Life Cabin life at Quinebarge enables campers to make friends and bond as a group, live with their peers, experience some independence and enjoy living in a rustic setting surrounded by nature. Campers are responsible for keeping their beds, cubbies and personal areas tidy and for working together to clean their cabin. Cabins are very well maintained and have electricity. Girls and Boys have separate cabin areas on the grounds. Girls have a shared bathroom in each cabin, while the boys have a dedicated wash house. Usually 6-8 campers share a cabin with 1-2 counselors and a CIT (Counselor in Training). Cabins are inspected daily and each camper is responsible for their bunk area. Good inspections are rewarded! Cabin life is a fun part of Camp Quinebarge and campers make friends that last a lifetime. Our Traditions Quinebarge is proud of its campers and the traditions passed along since1936. Below are a few that are the essence of Camp Quinebarge and its campers. CABIN PLAQUES

Since our first summer, every camper is listed on cabin plaques displayed in our dining hall. What fun it is to peruse the creative plaques each cabin has been creating for nearly 80 years! We know of no other camp that honors their campers and alumni this way. And, what fun it is to check out the designs and neon colors chosen by campers in the ‘80’s!

SUNDAY EVENING CAMPFIRES

Overlooking Lake Kanasatka, we have a campfire area known as Piney Point. Each Sunday, after dinner, our cabins gather to share skits, songs and stories to entertain and amuse fellow Quinebargers. Every camper is given the opportunity to perform!

MONKEYTOWN

Homegrown to Quinebarge is Monkeytown. For nearly 80 years, Monkeytown, with its own mayor, money, “Color Wars” and carnival, serves as a focal point for camp life not seen elsewhere. Cabins work together to decorate their section of Monkeytown and offer concessions and games to fellow campers to play at the carnivals. Our “carnival in the trees” is a uniquely favorite summer memory of Quinebarge alumni.

We harken to a time of kids being kids, without the distractions of modern life, exploring the natural world around them, developing friendships that last forever, singing songs and playing games in a safe, fun and nurturing environment.
