Tacoma Light Line Museum Spring 2014 TACOMA WASHINGTON Topic: Tacoma HAUB Exhibition addition of galleries,public space, and restoration of the common ground towards a city connection and an entry invite for the community. The Tacoma Art Museum existing building by Antoine Predock focused on the concept of ascension which derived from Tacoma’s northwest landscape of Mt. Rainier.

Topic: Skin|Facade adaptive reuse of the Regency House, a high rise residential building in downtown Phoenix, will engage in a dialect with it’s surrounding one story residential neighborhood. The building restores it’s identity, being one of the earliest high rises of the city, as an extension of the desert landscape into the unit balconies as a backyard balcony.
Topic: Develop an ideal live/work space of artisan practice for Angela Johnson(Fashion Designer), sheltering her ideas, visions, live/work spaces, tools, processes and master works.Design a new live/work space which contributes to the emerging artisan community of Phoenix’s Roosevelt Row neighborhood (RoRo).
Topic: 3rd teacher+ 3rd place(shared space with the community. Typology of Montessori school as an addition to existing elementary school that connects the school’s amenities as public facilities for the neighborhood.

Program: Retail, Coworking, Co-Learning, and Nursery Project Description: The threshold space becomes the 4th Space which evolves from the continuation and breaking of boundaries between: ning and ending. The 4th Space claims the threshold as a horizontal and vertical public space between ASU and Tempe community. It acts as an extension and continuity of the school campus, Mill Ave. infrastructure, businesses, neighborhood, and desert landscape. The threshold plans the interstitial space between the urban transition where informal gatherings and learning take place. The threshold edges the surrounding character tries to become the link to connect HIDA disciplines to the surrounding community.

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON Project: Tacoma Art Museum Haub Collection Expansion Program: New Museum Expansion and Galleries for New Project Description: The goal was to create a museum with a powerful cultural and community presence expressed through dynamic spaces carved out to create a connected and transparent public dialogue with cultural and urban surroundings while communicating the various inner forces intrinsic to the Museum and it’s Art. This composition would create vitalized urban gathering spaces, a strong center for the Tacoma art community, and a profitable and sustainable business plan for the museum.
Issues
1 Site and Building is disconnected from the community while lacking vitality as well as public and local engagement leaving Tacoma without a strong art and cultural center.
2. The building is lacking a grand entrance, public art space, and the necessary visual presence to project itself to the city as an art museum and hub for the local art community. munity
3. Museum is lacking a sustainable Business Model and programmatic diversity and flexibility needed to increase attendance and financial independence.
4. The need for Gallery and Storage expansion for the Haub Collection and other museum Programs.

Regency is missing an Identity within the built environment and is disconnected from the community.
Professor: Darren Petrucci Petrucc PROJECT: Adaptive Re-use | Skin Design PROGRAM: Regency Condominiums | Addition of Public Bringing typical house backyard into the regency and for the individuality of units as an amenity.
Regency apartment complex renovation of the building envelop into a “ green vertical skin� becomes an Identity for the community by extending the desert landscape into the building. The skin of the building becomes an extension of the apartment units becoming a backyard amenity for the residents as well as connects with the community
Community involvement by creating a prototype design construction in midtown by connecting private and public spaces within the regency to serve both the residents and the community.

Fashion House Angela Johnson Spring 2013 | ADE 512 Professor: Max Underwood Roosevelt Row Community PHOENIX, ARIZONA PROGRAM: Artisan live|work and event space.
The general concept is to enhance the artisan commu-nity by making it denser and connecting significant his-torical places with our new artisan spaces. One of these e artisan is Angela Johnson, one of the best know fashion n designerr in the valley, which focuses on recyclable fabric as her core material. The project main concept is creating a work and live space for her studio and house. The space is divided into her private (live space) and public (studio) by creat-ing a runway cutting through the property which connects to the street and alley. This will enable the oppor-tunity to transform the studio into an event space and leaving her private space separate. In addition the building is cover with a square grid faรงade which serves as a display screen for material, clothing, and windows. The space is clear open for her to be able to transform any space into different themes. Materials used are re-cyclable wood furniture and other building materials. He er studio ceiling hangs her clothing design and the back wall is cover with her old drawing patterns. Finally her live/work spaces are clearly divided into three spaces which could transform for special events such as her own fashion shows.

Professor: Milagros Zingoni PROJECT: Addition of Montessori School Schoo Project Description: The approach is to create a connection with existing Ira Murphy Elementary School and park area to integrate a new Montessori school. The Montessori school will serve to revitalize the zone and give back to the community with public spaces. Frontier Montessori incorporates public and private spaces within the site limits of the school thus creating a need for a border protecting the children in school. The concept is to embrace the children by creating their main courtyard surrounded by classrooms for the use of playground, school activities, sports, and assemblies. The classrooms are distributed to connect two classrooms to create outdoor spaces of discovery. Their outside learning environment will serve to learn about the native plants in the desert and for experimental projects. In order to protect and give privacy to the children a series of trellis are situated throughout the classrooms that also serve as screens. These trellises wrap around the classrooms from outdoor to the inside of the courtyard creating an interaction for the children playground. The multipurpose, art, and music rooms are located towards the park area to serve both the school and community. These spaces will be able to open when the school is closed for public events and activities. Moreover Frontier Montessori School approach is for the students to have freedom within the school in the courtyard and classrooms by means of discovery and experience.
