Most parents in urban areas are busy in life. In other ways , it can be interpreted that people are mostly oriented toward works rather than knowing their kids, play with them and talk to them. This project focus on how design intervention can help encourage family interaction conversations.

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically changed the nature of our social interactions. We are proposing to revitalisation of Industrial Building into a family boutique hotel . Our ways of resolving to current issues can be shown and decoded through design.

Everyone remembers the joys of childhood and blowing bubbles in the backyard to pass the time. Laughing with one another when they popped. Or competing to see who's blown the biggest bubble or which lasted the longest. Designed this Bubbleland to be a family wonderland, it invites all families, and also welcome the our surrounding neighbourhoods.

Design Concept

Boutique Hotel

The innocence of childhood never left. Creating a interesting moment and the unique spatial experience. BUBBLELAND

Midas Plaza which blocks the sun light, thus it would be less sunny at around 9:00am.

Strengths

Site is located nearby MTR station, Diamond Hill, Wong Tai Sin, Lok Fu and Kai Tak, which is easily accessible.

The hotel is connecting to main road.

Site is surrounded with same typology of building.

Opportunities

The site is nearby the Community Facilities and Residential , so the public flow will be maintained.

It is near to Park, which will be beneficial for family time.

Wind

The north wind will be stronger, no buildings block the wind on North, it is only trees.

The surrounding buildings are rebuilding, it has a big noise.

It is around the Industrial building, less of food can choose.

Threats

The surrounding do not have the police force, if children play alone in the park, it maybe dangerous.

Our hotel inspired by our design concept bubble, considering the manipulate with the building, bubble not just only in our facade, also inside our hotel, we study the shape of bubble, and try to design our layers on each floor. Bubble is a small globule which the shape of it is round. We use the curve of the bubble to make the design principle in different floors. Our boutique hotel which is fully designed for parents and kids, we based on the curve to design the space which lets it more safely for them. Besides, bubble also hollow and light. We design a hotel which is no burden, the audience can indulge in pleasures without stop here, everyone can escape the pressure on the reality. Hollow our hotel provides the transparency, creating a social gathering space for the society where the different class and ages can interact in this space.

1-2 Floor mainly reception, lobby, cafe. The table of the reception have two different levels, one is for parents check in, one is for children. You can let your children try to do it by themselves.

3-4 Floor provides a family restaurant, play area and a pizza workshop. That’s turning a big social area where our children share the feelings with parents and other children. Family can make the pizza together, high levels of interaction with their peers is highly beneficial for children’s communication skills and language development.

We design two door handles for children or parents. If children want to go toilet, they don’t need to wake their parents up, they can do it by themselves, it is a way for self learning.

Birdwatching Time Capsule Cabin with the idea of enhancing the local bird watching experience. In regular times, this cabin is a collection of rest area and pavilion, which provide leisure, meet-up point and outdoor activity especially for local resident and overseas visitors, stimulates the vitality of the community. In other times, an advantageous lookout point can enjoy a complete bird-watching experience and allows nature lovers to get up close and personal with the feathered fauna that frequents the area. The Cabin demonstrates the diversity of wetland ecosystems in Hong Kong and highlights the importance of protecting them.

Design Concept

The stones has unique forms and different surfaces. Choosing the best face of the stone, the appropriate angle for its display and become familiar with its characteristics. A stone’s appeal may lie in its capacity to inspire thoughts of a distant mountain range, a human figure or the energy that animates the universe.

On the testing model, making ‘holes’ onto the surface, with different shapes, sizes and arrangement. Exploring the level of penetration and lighting, quality for the interior on the stones.

Each interlocking pieces are irregular. The form making to space making, its process involves the manipulation of planar elements to form an interior space and the difference of the massing surface could combine to some special form. The part of interlocking form can be the store space, outdoor space or the entertainment space.

The Old Pathological Institute (1906)

Subsequent to Tai Ping Shan’s plague outbreak in Sheung Wan in 1894, experts were dispatched by the British Goverenment to Hong Kong in 1906 to establish a bacteriological laboratory in order to cope with the plague issue in Hong Kong at that time.

The Hong Kong Medical museum (1996)

Opened in early 1996, a group of doctors transferred the site into a museum of medical sciences, to introduce the study of medicine and bacteriology in Hong Kong. It is one of the first museums in world to compare traditional Chinese and Western approaches to medicine and preserved as a Declared Monument. The use from solve plague problem to be a museum, that mean the medical technology progressed a lot.

According to the result of the survey, the rectangle power bank will be the final design. The power bank is using the golden ratio to desgin such as layout, spacing, content and even partten.
