From slums to gated communities, from overcrowding to sprawl, from homelessness to the vacant houses, there is much evidence that housing is shaping cities worldwide, regretfully, in many cases, by producing fragmentation and inequalities. The resulting models are leading to social, environmental and financial costs far beyond what the majority of cities can afford. While the most common problem is the shortage of adequate and affordable housing and the unprecedented proliferation of slums, other important challenges lay in the poor quality and location of the stock usually far from job and livelihood opportunities, lack of accessibility and services.
The house is to serve its owner by creating a shelter not only to protect the people from the weather, but also to create as much space as possible as well as to provide an enjoyable living atmosphere. By zoning the houses of demographic groups such as families, the elderly, or single people of any age. It created a more private and social environment through the site. The residents share green spaces thought the site which critical role in cooling and provide safe routes for walking and as well as sites for physical activity, social interaction and for recreation.

Starting with the Native Americans who have lived here for thousands of years, and continuing through Albuquerque's official founding in 1706, the city has grown into a multicultural metropolis of nearly a million people. While the modern city of Albuquerque is a center of high-tech industry and research, it retains vital connections to the past, such as the ancient rock carvings at Petroglyph National Monument, the historic Old Town Plaza and the trail of vintage neon signs along Route 66.

02 JEFFERSON URBAN PLAZA Type: Urban Plaza Professor: M. Abusalim Location: Harlingen, TX
Jefferson Urban Plaza is located in the core area of the Harlingen district’s Northestern zone. The vibrant and developing district is popular with millennials that have an appreciation for design and a unique pursuit for a high end modern living environment. The landscape design vision was forged on the principle of providing residents with the diverse and dynamic experience of modern urban living within a singular location, offering a reflection of urban environments and offered activities for all ages, all structured to encourage social and community connectivity, as places to come together. By creating a bike stop which provides the residents of Harlingen with the oportunity to rent or fix their bicicles.
The rewards of transforming a civic space into a great public place go way beyond just the space, although the place in itself enriches the lives of its users and enhances its surrounding buildings and neighborhood. Great public places contribute to community health - whether socially, economically, culturally or environmentally. They add enhancement to the civic realm - not only visually, but also in providing a sense of character and a forum for public activities. They can be anchors for downtowns and communities, acting as focal points for definition and foundations for healthy growth. All of these assets, as well as the opportunity these places offer for people to relax and enjoy themselves, add up to greater community livability.

Harlingen is a city in Cameron County in the central region of the Rio Grande Valley of the southern part of the U.S. state of Texas, about 30 miles from the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. The city covers more than 40 square miles and is the second-largest city in Cameron County, as well as the fourth-largest in the Rio Grande Valley. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 64,849, for a growth rate of 12.5% since the 2000 census. It is the city with the lowest cost of living in the United States.

03 CHAMIZAL CULTURAL CENTER Type: Cultural Center Professor: D. Driskill Location: El Paso, TX The site is located at the Chamizal park which is in the border between Mexico. Therefore, we conceive a building with internal density that is paradoxically dominated by interior voids which also shapes the circulation throughout the building. By internalizing the urban experience, users can explore various open space which are connected public stairs, gathering spaces and galleries.
Cultural centers are becoming more popular around the world, as technology like the internet makes the world feel more connected. More and more people are becoming interested in other cultures in addition to wanting to share their own. Cultural centers are a prime way to bring communities together in their learning, which makes it more enjoyable and often times, even more helpful! Read on for a few ways these centers can benefit your community.

Chamizal National Memorial provides visitors with ample opportunity to better understand not only other cultures, but their own cultural roots as well. The Chamizal Treaty of 1963 was a milestone in diplomatic relations between Mexico and the United States. Chamizal National Memorial was established to commemorate this treaty which resulted in the peaceful settlement of a century-long boundary dispute between the neighboring countries. Far more than mere acreage, Chamizal is an idea, a dynamic process dedicated to furthering the spirit of understanding and goodwill between two nations that share one border. Chamizal National Memorial serves as an open door to increase visitor awareness to continually value cooperation, diplomacy, and cultural values as a basic means to conflict resolution.

Yet, mountains are important not only for their inhabitants, but for millions of people living in lowlands. At the global scale, mountains' greatest value may be as sources of all the world's major rivers, and many smaller ones. Mountains play a critical role in the water cycle by capturing moisture from air masses; when this precipitation falls as snow, it is stored until it melts in the spring and summer, providing essential water for settlements, agriculture and industries downstream - often during the period of lowest rainfall. The Franklin Mountains of Texas are a small range (23 miles long, 3 miles (4.8 km) wide) that extend from El Paso, Texas north into New Mexico.[1] The Franklins were formed due to crustal extension related to the Cenozoic Rio Grande rift. Although the present topography of the range and adjoining basins is controlled by extension during rifting in the last 10 million years, faults within the range also record deformation during the Laramide orogeny, between 85 and 45 million years ago.

04 LLANO GRANDE BIRD WATCH Type: Bird Watch Professor: M. Abusalim Location: Llano Grande
The most precious parts of Llano Grande is under conservation and managed by the regional authority for environmental protection, but also function as pasture land for a conventional farm with livestock and grass production. Here, consideration for agriculture, environmental protection and public outdoor life interests are all crucial, and as a way of making the richness of the area more accessible, a system of paths and a new bird observatory has been created.
The bird watching tower was developed throusgh the synthesis of the open, flat wetland geography and dense moisture in the air, The structural system is designed as a jettying frame expanding in width as it rises, allowing a small footprint to incrementally widen to support a larger platform above. Horizontal elements of galvanised iron plates have been bolted and welded together. The exterior facade is constructed of lumber to blend in with the environment.

Importance of birds in Nature: Birds are part of nature. They contribute to the ecosystem and environment. They are helpful in following ways to nature. 1. Food chain: Birds are part of food chain. They are carnivores here. They keep a check on the overpopulation of rodents, insects and even snakes Birds are unique living beings with their ability to fly. There are many types of birds and we see only a few of them around the place of human residence. The importance of birds seems minimal due to technological advancement and current lifestyle. Many of us do not get time even to see them on a daily basis or at least once in a week. Some of the birds are reared for humans use while others are indirectly helpful to humans. They form a part of the food chain in the ecosystem and are a part of nature.

Estero Llano Grande State Park, the Weslaco wing of the World Birding Center, encompasses approximately 200 acres of restored wetlands and subtropical thorn-scrub forest. The park is located in the heart of the subtropical Lower Rio Grande Valley, a four-county area that has unmatched biotic diversity, documenting 512 species of birds, over 300 species of butterflies and over 1,100 species of plants.

Inspired by Bauhaus, this media elective course explores how digital media and physical material are used as instruments in a desing environment. Though the process of diagraming a dematerialized set of refrigerator photographs. By exploring and creating space and form by using diagrams and creating 3d modelings to create the final design .
This design was done by using 3D design application featuring a variety of modeling personalities and tools with an easy to use interface to express and communicate your imagination. It is based on advanced 3D solid and surface modeling methods that maintain accurate representations as you progress from design to visualization, layout, animation and fabrication.

06 MOBILE MARKET Type: Mobile Market Team: Class Project Professor: M. Abusalim Location: Brownsville, Tx This project was designed to create a mobile farmer market trailer to make fresh produce accessible and affordable to everyone in Brownsville. In addition, the fresh food truck would serve as a platform to educate the public about healthy food, meal preparation and urban agriculture. Also, it would foster community engagement and maximize outreach activities by establishing partnerships with community based organizations, health centers, schools, and universities and community colleges in the region. The overall structure of the trailer is constructed using metal, and aluminum sheet for cladding. A layer of heat insulation is added to fill in the gap between the exterior and interior veneer in order to keep the temperature inside the trailer at comfortable level. For the roof structure, steel bars used to maintain rigid structure, while the light weight cladding material is added on the exterior to resist high temperature and enviramental such huminity. Shelves play a very important role in the design. The shelves were positioned considering the height of the public in order to reach the desired product. Furthermore, the size of the shelves is determined to hold baskets
Mobile Markets. Mobile markets help retailers expand their customer base and provide rural residents regular access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Mobile markets work similar to food trucks and have a set schedule and route where they make stops and deliveries.

Cities are using mobile farmers markets to deliver fresh produce to urban residents who may not have the time or resources to access fruits and vegetables. Providing more fresh produce to urban neighborhoods where grocery stores can be few and far between has long been a focus for those working to balance food offerings among fast food restaurants and corner convenience stores. The proliferation of farmers' markets has helped, with more than 8,000 operating nationwide in the United States. But farmers' markets tend to be located in wealthy neighborhoods and are often out of reach, both physically and economically, for many low-income residents.
