BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Saturday 15 December, 7:30pm Prokofiev – Lieutenant Kije Suite Grieg – Piano Concerto Sibelius – Symphony No.2 Freddy Kempf – Piano Alpesh Chauhan – Conductor Joining the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra for this stunning opening concert will be one of the world’s most in-demand classical musicians, “pianist in a million” Freddy Kempf who regularly performs with the world’s leading conductors and orchestras. Guest conductor Alpesh Chauhan is also a regular guest with the world’s major orchestras and has recently appeared at the BBC Proms. Aberdeen City Music School is a national specialist music school based in Dyce Academy in Aberdeen.
Children’s Classic Concerts’ Essential Orchestra is back with Prokofiev’s iconic fairytale Peter and the Wolf, brought to life on stage by musical characters and storytelling.
Lukaš Vondraček – Piano Elim Chan – Conductor Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet redefined romantic music, while Prokofiev brought Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers to the USSR. Rachmaninov’s Second, meanwhile, is the world’s dreamiest piano concerto.

Known to many as the voice of M People, Heather Small is a quintessentially British institution. With hits such as Moving On Up, One Night in Heaven and Search for the Hero, M People achieved major worldwide success, with Heather becoming one of the seminal British voices of the 1990s. Since M People, Heather has had further successes with two solo albums – the title track of her Proud album has gone on to become the soundtrack to a whole host of very special events including London’s 2012 Olympic bid.

Neo-soul diva Beverley Knight channeled the sound and spirit of classic R&B to emerge as one of Britain’s biggest new pop stars of the ’90s. Raised on a steady diet of gospel music and forbidden to listen to its secular counterpart, she nevertheless discovered crossover legends Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin and began writing her own original songs at age 13. Northern Arc Sessions Capercaillie

Capercaillie have done more for Scottish music than any other band. Their legacy is phenomenal and their exciting, contemporary interpretation of ancient Gaelic songs and music has brought them global success and a position at the very top of Celtic music’s international premier league. They’ve sold over one million albums worldwide, written music for Hollywood movies and had the first Gaelic top 40 single. They will be joined by renowned Galician singer, percussionist, piper and folklorist Xabier Diaz, and spectacular all-female vocal/ percussion ensemble Adufeiras de Salitre. Their show will draw on 2018’s collaborative album Noró, derived from Diaz’s research into songs and rhythms from the whole of Iberia’s north-west, including Asturias and northern Portugal.

Eddi Reader Saturday 20 April, 7:30pm Eddi is celebrating her 40th year as a live performer, a career which started in 1978 singing on Scottish country rock tours, then appearing on worldwide festival and concert hall stages with Gang of Four and Fairground Attraction through the eighties and her own successful solo live career which continues to this day. Her new album Cavalier is a new creative peak incorporating both contemporary and traditional songs.

Getting there
Accessibility
The Music Hall is located right in the heart of Aberdeen city centre on Union Street.
The Music Hall is now, for the first time in its 193 year history, fully accessible.
There are bus stops located right outside served by several routes and Aberdeen Railway Station is a few minutes’ walk away. Aberdeen is ‘Alive After 5’ and there is free parking from 5pm to 8am in the multi storey car parks at the Denburn and on Chapel Street.
There is street to seat access for everyone through the main front door via the new granite ramp and state of the art Sesame lift in the vestibule. We have two new passenger lifts which access the balcony, the new toilet suite in the lower ground floor and the Tutti Studio at the front of the building.
If you are looking to make it an overnight stay there are many excellent accommodation options in the city centre. We suggest The Copthorne Hotel, Skene Apartments, Sandman Signature Hotel, Hilton Garden Inn or Mercure Caledonian Hotel.
There are wheelchair spaces in the stalls and the balcony – please request at time of booking. There are four accessible toilets which include access hoists and changing facilities, and feature Grace’s signs on each door. The Music Hall is fitted with Mobile Connect technology which provides hearing assistance via a smartphone app.
Food & drink CODA Café Bar at the Music Hall is the perfect place to relax in the heart of the city for coffee and cake, fizz, affogatos, light bites and sharing platters. Ideal for drinks with friends. CODA opens at 9:30am each day and will remain open during and after the show. RONDO is our new restaurant and will offer pre-concert dining before selected performances – look out for the symbol throughout the brochure. A table can be booked when you purchase your tickets or at any time via aberdeenperformingarts.com. We also sell Mackie’s ice cream at every performance and offer a pre-order service for interval drinks in the CODA Café Bar. Look out for our pop-up bars in other spaces at really busy shows!
