QUADROPHENIA THE ICONIC ROCK OPERA Set in London and Brighton at the height of the Mod era, QUADROPHENIA is told through the eyes of Jimmy, a hedonistic style conscious teenager searching for a place to belong and a girl to love. Misunderstood by his parents and stuck in a dead end job, he sets off on a trip to Brighton that will change his life forever. This compelling coming of age story is brought to life in this original stage adaptation of the legendary album. The evocative world of sixties Britain provides a colourful backdrop to Jimmy’s journey. Pete Townshend’s stunning score pulsates with life and brilliantly captures the excitement of a nation on the brink of change. The album Quadrophenia was released by The Who in 1973 followed by the iconic film in 1979. Rolling Stone magazine and VH1 have named it one of the 100 Greatest Albums of all Time. An exhilarating theatrical experience for rebels and adolescents of all ages! Romantic. Lunatic. Tough Guy. Hypocrite. Can you see the real me? MUSIC, LYRICS & CONCEPT BY PETE TOWNSHEND. Stage adaptation by Jeff Young, John O’Hara & Tom Critchley.

Neil Gunn’s The Silver Darlings is an epic adventure story, and one of the best loved Scottish novels of the 20th Century. Set in the early days of the herring fisheries around the Scottish coast, it combines human emotion with stormy dangerous seas in the story of a boy growing to manhood, of a man and woman finding love in the face of tragedy, and of a community recovering from the Highland Clearances to forge a new way of life from the forbidding, unpredictable ocean. This spectacular tale is brought to the stage by the team who brought you Sunset Song, along with award winning playwright Peter Arnott, promising a unique and exciting rendition of a Scottish classic to celebrate the year of homecoming.

THE MUSIC HALL
The main auditorium of the Music Hall opened to the public on the 14th of September 1859 and to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the concert hall this September, we have put together a programme of events and concerts that we believe will pay a fitting tribute to one of the finest concert halls in Europe. The Music Hall’s story will be commemorated in a book being published in the summer to mark the occasion and events planned include a visit from the Philharmonia with Vladimir Ashkenazy and Nicola Benedetti which should be the highlight of Aberdeen’s musical year. The people of the north east have played an important part in the Music Hall’s success with local music societies, choirs, dance schools, artists, musicians and youth orchestras all playing an important part in its 150 year history. During the hall’s 150th year the community can get involved by entering our Carol Competition open to everyone from primary school kids to senior citizens and a Fanfare Competition for those in full-time education. From classical to pop, dance to comedy there’s plenty going on during our birthday year so come along and join in the fun during our year of celebration.
