Pain Management: How Effective Electric Stimulation Is? Mild electrical impulses, delivered by a therapy named TENS (Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) may be a drug-free pain management technique for you.

TENS was first developed in late 1960s. It is a technique that uses small electric current to ease pain. TENS treatment involves placing small electrodes on the skin above the pain affected area. Theyare held with adhesive and electrodes and attached to a machinethat generates small and mild waves of electric current. Through this process, small electrical impulses are sent to thepainful area. At present, there are small portable devices like Ultima 3t Electrodes available for electric stimulation pain management. Usually, these devices are provided with two channels that allow theuser to apply electrode pads on two body parts at the same time.

How does electricstimulation work? Electrical impulses interrupt messages which are sent to the brain via nerves. Electricimpulses interrupt these messages. In simple words, electric impulses block the activity of pain receptor that sends these pain messages. If thebrain doesn’t receive these messages, the body doesn’t feel the pain. Besides, TENS therapy is also believed to increase endorphins production in the body which acts as natural pain relievers. Now, you must have got how electric stimulation subsides thepain.
