The mission of the State Court of Mitchell County is to serve the citizens of Mitchell County and members of the Bar by providing the highest quality of justice in a courteous, efficient, and cost effective manner. The State Court seeks to accurately and timely file, process, index, and schedule litigation falling within its jurisdiction and to administer the Court in a professional manner, knowing we are conducting the public’s business.

The State Court operates under the laws of the State of Georgia to try all criminal cases below the grade of felony. The State Court also tries all civil actions regardless of the amount in controversy. This includes attachments, garnishments, proceedings against tenants, foreclosures, and all other actions in which jurisdiction is not in the Superior Court.

The function of the State Court is to provide a forum for the resolution of disputes between individuals or between the state and individuals. This Court has jurisdiction over misdemeanors (crimes punishable by twelve months incarceration or less) and civil cases (unlimited in dollar amount) concurrently with the Superior Court except cases involving divorce, titles to land, and equity which are reserved exclusively to Superior Court.
