The no. 1

International School

for the city

The United Lisbon International School (“United Lisbon”), is the leading piece of the development, completed as part of the first phase in 2020. Its location, grounds and unmatched facilities make it the top choice for an international school in the city of Lisbon.

In 2022, United Lisbon became part of the Dukes Education family of schools. As one of Dukes’ 40 brands, United Lisbon is now part of a broad network of educators dedicated to excellence. This partnership allows United Lisbon to continue to elevate standards, on both the national and international stages.

As a city school, United Lisbon benefits from many opportunities to engage with some of Lisbon’s best institutions and companies, to contribute to a rich curricular and extra-curricular program.

Future occupiers that join the Edu Hub campus will automatically become part of this network – a network that enjoys interacting with young minds, some of the best that the next generation has to offer. Like other companies in the neighbourhood, we invite companies that join the campus to offer the school structured opportunities for work placements and internships.

The school is housed in a former university building, which is protected for its architectural heritage. The rehabilitation Project won the Lisbon prize in the World Architecture Festival 2021 it maximizes the use of the existing structure while sensitively modernizing it for the demands of progressive education.

The classrooms and interstitial spaces are designed specifically to promote collaboration, creativity, and transparency. We’ve hired some of the best teachers in their field, from all over the globe, promising a world-class experience for our students at United Lisbon.

Innovative Learning

In a fast-changing world, students need new skills and competencies to succeed. United Lisbon sets a new standard for the 21st century with its classrooms, laboratories, art rooms, creative hubs and an innovative maker space with a 3D-printer, laser cutter, Beebots and Minecraft coding. Students learn leadership and collaborative skills by managing their own projects. Through our Student Council and the EMBRACE program, we give our students the opportunity to engage in humanitarian efforts and learn to be global citizens. Our international faculty has several years of international experience from all over the world to give our children the best in international education. We have developed a rich sports program for the different age groups, through the use of 6,500 sqm of outdoor play and sports facilities on site, as well as offsite sports facilities (e.g. swimming pools), which allow us to enhance our offer to the students.

Leading Academic Programs

Extracurricular Program

We offer a quality academic program that follows the United States of America Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The school welcomes learners from Early Childhood (age 3) to high school graduation (Grade 12). We create a dynamic learning culture where our learners become experts who have deep conceptual understandings, high levels of competencies and a strong positive moral character. Our learning pathway culminates with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program in Grades 11 and 12 in which students will graduate with the IB Diploma.

We offer a diverse program for our students to follow their passions and to learn beyond the classroom. We partner with leading institutions to create engaging experiences for United Lisbon students. Our unique partnerships with top providers such as Sporting FC, Lisbon Racket Center, Jazzy Dance Academy and Speakwell give our children the best opportunities to develop their passions. Building on these partnerships, every year United Lisbon curates a summer camp, packed with activities, which welcomes students from all over the country.

Owned by “Philips Portuguesa S.A.R.L”, this factory unit designed by the architect Porfírio Pardal Monteiro, was mainly dedicated to the manufacture of light bulbs for domestic consumption, and its opening was part of the commemoration of the twenty-five years of Philips Portuguesa and expressed the ongoing industrial modernization.

The Martinhal Group Reviews

“A symbol of Portugal’s dynamic approach to innovation, Edu Hub Lisbon is set to become a focal point for the city’s business and education community.

Lisbon has reached new heights over the last few years. Portugal’s coastal capital recovered from the financial crisis to become one of Europe’s most sought-after destinations amongst tourists, investors, and expats. An investment friendly government –demonstrated most clearly by the successful Golden Visa initiative – has been instrumental in Lisbon’s transition from a tourist destination to a dynamic and cosmopolitan hub for technology, innovation, and entrepreneurism.

“Europe’s San Francisco” or “Startup capital” are common monikers, and ones that look beyond the more commonly discussed benefits of reasonable living costs, wonderful climate and cultural heritage.”

The European, Jan 2022

“Martinhal Resorts is a collection of luxury hotels in Portugal that’s at the vanguard of several key travel trends. Those include the re-emergence of Europe as a destination for American travelers in 2022, family travel and the rise of a new class of digital nomads. I recently caught up with Martinhal’s CEO, Chitra Stern, in Lisbon to find out what U.S. travelers should expect when they return to Europe.”

Forbes, US, 2021

“In step with the city’s success story, Martinhal Residences Lisbon offers an unrivalled opportunity in Europe’s most cosmopolitan centres.”

The Luxury Report, August 2021

“Chitra and Roman Stern, a British-Swiss couple who own and operate family-friendly Martinhal Family Hotels in Portugal, know a great deal about international schools. They not only chose to educate their four children, aged 19 to 11, through the system, but two years ago they founded one in Lisbon. United Lisbon International School opened in 2020, with the first International Baccalaureate (IB) students set to graduate in 2024.”

The Times, August 2022

“Properly child-friendly hotel that doesn’t skimp on style. Rooms are large and luxurious, a smattering of bougie duplex villas offering a more private experience for families. At every turn you’ll marvel at the attention to detail that makes sure you and your family are having a belter of a time: think bike hire, zip wires, football pitches, outdoor soft play areas and even a trampoline built into the ground. All seamlessly blend into the hotel’s chic surrounds, flanked by stunning cork trees and gorgeous swimming pools for everybody to enjoy together.”

The Handbook, 2022

“Lisbon tops the list for coolest city, but it’s great for children too, with tram rides and quirky design attractions. The central Martinhal Chiado has kids’ clubs for all ages, baby equipment on tap, and apartment-style rooms.”

The Telegraph, 2020

Rehabilitation

+ solving a problem

What started out as an identification of a weakness for FDI turned into an opportunity for investment and the Sterns invested in defunct and abandoned industrial buildings to convert them into an innovative education hub, with a world-class international school.

This ambitious project has been born from the ever-growing need to invest time, money and efforts in the field of education – to ensure a better future for all.
