Foundation Degree in Paralegal Studies
This two-year LLB course is recognised as a qualifying degree for professional purposes in the UK and has been designed for those who already have higher education qualifications; whether you are a graduate or you have successfully completed an HND or one year of study at university.
This Foundation Degree in Paralegal Studies offers a flexible, work-related learning experience that provides the skills to succeed in the legal sector. You can study full-time, or part-time while you are working, so it is ideal if you already work in the profession and want a recognised and transferable qualification.
In addition to specific knowledge of the law and its applications in the real world, you will gain a vast range of transferable skills such as the ability to communicate effectively, retrieve and handle information competently, analyse and solve problems, and have the confidence to present logical, reasoned arguments. Such emphasis on the acquisition of skills means that our graduates are well-equipped for the challenges of the workplace.

BA (Hons) International Business (Top-up) The BA (Hons) International Business gives focus to the increasingly globalised world we live in. Having a strong understanding of the key aspects of doing business on a global scale will certainly give you an advantage in the workplace. During this one year ‘top-up’ course, you will gain a better understanding of how international trade works and learn about the different issues facing global business, including how this might affect the traditional business management functions such as marketing, human resources, and purchasing and supply. Postgraduate courses LLM in Intellectual Property Law The LLM in Intellectual Property Law is a specialist course that will develop your understanding of intellectual property law and regulation. The course reflects the growing importance of intellectual property law to the global economy, providing engagement with theoretical and current issues of debate on contemporary areas of intellectual property law. You will develop the skills needed to deal with the legal rules relating to intellectual property law and practice, and the ability to analyse and critique those rules in a practical and academic context.
LLM in International Commercial Law The LLM in International Commercial Law is a specialist course which will develop your understanding of the nature of international commercial law and regulation. MSc Computer Systems Security The security of computer systems is increasingly important, as the use of information systems is now widespread
in the lives of individuals, business and society. The significance of information security and the demand for relevant skills has been emphasised recently by high-profile incidents concerning the privacy of personal data and security of financial information. This specialist MSc focuses on the technical aspects of computer systems security and systems administration, particularly penetration testing. It is accredited by the TIGER Scheme and will give you exemption from some of its examinations.
MSc Cyber Security Building on the proven track record of the Information Security Research Group at the University of South Wales, this MSc in Cyber Security will equip you with the skills and general knowledge required to operate successfully in the cyber security area of business and government. The course combines the technical and management/governance principles that underpin cyber security into a single coherent body of knowledge, focusing upon business requirements in terms of management/governance and technology.
MSc Forensic Audit and Accounting Forensic accounting and auditing are fast-developing areas in the commercial world, with the demand for expertise in this area growing dramatically in recent years. The major professional accounting firms now have departments offering specialist forensic accounting and audit services. As a result, there is a need for people who can undertake fraud investigations, valuations, assist in dispute resolution, prepare expert reports, and conduct fraud and forensic analysis.

MSc Islamic Banking and Finance Islamic finance is experiencing growth rates of approximately 15-20% per annum, with predictions from rating agency Standard and Poor’s suggesting that the total number of assets controlled by Sharia compliant institutions could exceed $4 trillion. This performance in the current recessionary climate is a good indicator of the viability of Islamic finance on a global scale, with Western banks also opening Islamic sections. Moreover, governments around the world are introducing new bills to incorporate Islamic banks into their financial systems.
This MSc Islamic Banking and Finance will provide the knowledge and analytical skills for you to explore and explain the principles and practices of Islamic banking and finance. You will develop a comprehensive understanding of the financial, economic and legal environments in which Islamic banking operates.
MSc Accounting This Masters course will allow you to gain an advanced understanding of accounting practices that are vital in the modern business world. The course is ideal if you want to pursue a successful career in a finance, accounting or management role. You will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to effectively analyse, interpret and make decisions based on financial information. The course focuses on refining your business skills with an emphasis on accounting and assurance. It has been designed to allow you to develop a strong understanding of how financial data underpins the decision-making process, and how outcomes are effectively communicated and evaluated.
MSc Accounting and Finance with ACCA (subject to validation) This highly innovative course is designed for students who have passed (or who are exempt from) the Fundamentals Level papers of the ACCA Professional Qualification, and who wish to complete their ACCA Professional Level studies and obtain a Masters qualification simultaneously. The syllabus for each module is mapped to key parts of the syllabus of the equivalent ACCA paper. Students will cover the MSc syllabus and will then top up to the full ACCA syllabus. MSc assessments will be sat before the external ACCA exams, which are available at the beginning of December and June.

Professional short courses The University offers a range of professional short courses that provide professional development in areas that include, computer forensics, information assurance and network defence.
Computer Forensics This one-day course provides a basic knowledge of digital forensic examinations, and shows how evidential findings are applied within criminal and civil cases. You will gain an overview of the tools and techniques used, the types of digital storage media likely to be encountered, and clear explanations of the terminology and software commonly found within cases involving computer evidence. The course also highlights the areas of law most relevant to cases involving digital forensic evidence. Finally, the course reviews the topics covered in relation to two actual cases.
Computer Incident Investigation and Analysis This one-day course is designed to give managers a detailed picture of many primary challenges that arise in leading an incident response team.

Forensic Readiness, Policies and Procedures This one-day course is designed to provide managers with a detailed understanding of the issues, tools and techniques associated with the creation and testing of forensic readiness, policies and procedures. Key topics include: an introduction to digital forensics; concepts and an overview of the key terms associated with forensic readiness and how these should be adopted by an organisation; the benefits of having a forensics readiness plan, risks of not having one and costs associated with forensic readiness; an examination
of the common principles for forensic readiness and how organisations should consider the extent of applicability of each principle; associated planning practices required for the creation of a suitable forensic readiness plan.
Information Assurance Governance This one-day course is designed to give managers a detailed understanding of the issues, tools and techniques associated with information assurance governance. Key topics include: corporate governance and risk management; information assurance and managing the risks; corporate information assurance and risk management.
Malicious Software Analysis This one-day course is designed to give managers a detailed understanding of the issues, tools and techniques associated with malicious software analysis. The course will help forensic investigators, incident responders and IT administrators acquire practical skills for examining malicious programs that target Microsoft Windows. This training also teaches how to reverse-engineer web browser malware implemented in JavaScript and Flash, as well as malicious documents, such as PDF and Microsoft Office files. The malware analysis process taught in this class helps incident responders assess the severity and repercussions of a situation that involves malicious software, and plan recovery steps.
Network Security and Network Defence This one-day course is designed to give managers a detailed understanding of the issues, tools and techniques associated with network security and network defence.
Key topics include: demonstration of a comprehensive and critical understanding of security architecture theory; attack mechanisms on networks; a critical and comprehensive analysis of the key technologies used to defend a network; how, where and why particular defence mechanisms are used; develop critical awareness and understanding for the application of defence mechanisms and methodologies; important research developments in security architectures and network defence.
Tiger Scheme This three-day course is designed to provide managers with a detailed understanding of the issues, tools and techniques associated with the QSTM/CTM qualification. Key topics include: legal and regulatory frameworks for security testing; reconnaissance techniques such as network scanning and OS finger printing; vulnerability identification and validation; understanding test errors and testing methodologies; introduction to exploitation and exploitation frameworks; web applications and OWASP. English Pre-sessional University of South Wales courses require international students to have achieved an IELTS score of 6.0 for undergraduate degree courses (with at least 5.5 in each component) and 6.5 (with at least 5.5 in each component) for postgraduate study. The University’s London Centre offers a pre-sessional English course for students with an existing IELTS level below the required standard, to ensure they meet the required level for progression to academic study.

Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) The University offers employers an Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) scheme. APEL allows employees to use their experience and in some cases prior qualifications, to be mapped against modules and gain credits towards a number of our undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. If all criteria are met, employees are exempt from the teaching, assessment and the cost of undertaking that module of study. We can also support the business development needs of those already working in the law and finance sectors.
