PARKWOOD HOUSE, QLD The older brick house appeared tired and dated. Working together with he owners, we came up with a solution and turned the double garage into a grand Master Bedroom with an ensuite and walk in robe. By relocating the old bedrooms and kitchen allowed us to free up a large amount of space for a new living, dining and lounge area. We also introduced new personal touches which helped this house feel like a home, for the owners.

The “Escape”, a village centre which is a reflection of its surrounding, the lush greenery and ridgelines. The shape and concept behind the structure comes from escaping the busy environment of our lives to pitch up a tent. This can be linked back to the history of the site, how Aboriginal shelter structures were built. The site dates back to the Yugambeh people, the traditional custodians of the land. The interpretive centre had to be integrated with its surroundings therefore not blocking views or disturb the existing harmony on the site. The building consists out of a central interpretive centre, bunkbeds, self enclosed units, co-working spaces and internal courtyards. The main brief our client had was to create an easily built and sustainable structure by utilising passive design principles. The proposal is utilising a lightweight construction method raised off the ground with recycled and local materials such as the hoop pine.

The concept for the Gold Coast Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre derived from australian aboriginal symbolism. Two circles, one larger than the other means gather in Aboriginal symbol scripture. The history of the site dates back to the traditional custodians of the land, the Yugambeh people. The visitor centre, a place where you can gather and connect with history and nature. The circular shape enables easy navigation through the building, it acts as a walkable green roof garden as well as a bridge over the lake.
