Hard to believe, but it is that time of year again. We have a big focus this year on “Value Added” and Award Winners for you to consider. An old favourite of mine Cognac Maxime Trijol have produced a glass pack for the first time. Their multiple award winning VSOP Grande Champagne now with two Cognac tasting glasses has made a great gift an even better one. You will find this along with many others in The Gift Pack Section. It’s been a great year of awards for many of our portfolio. Leyrat Glory won The World’s Best Cognac and is an amazing example of all that is good about that category. Meanwhile Foursquare’s brilliant Richard Seale won 2017 Rum Producer of the Year to add to his 2016 victory while his 2014 Cask Strength Special Edition took the Best Rum Trophy. I have been looking for some time now for vermouths and a range of bitters with the level of provenance and quality required to join our portfolio. We have rejected many along the way and I am now very pleased to have added Vermouth Lacuesta from Rioja as well as the amazing Bittered Sling range from the award-winning mixologist Lauren Mote and her husband chef Jonathan Chovancek to our portfolio. We are an independent Irish whiskey company dedicated to bringing choice and breadth back to the Irish whiskey category through small batch releases of interesting and flavoursome bottlings. Our goal is to revive the independent spirit of Dublin. Dublin has traditionally been the heart of the Irish whiskey industry. During Walter Teeling’s time there were over 37 different distilleries in Dublin. The Liberties area of Dublin in particular was recognised as the epicentre for Dublin whiskey and was dubbed the ‘Golden Triangle’ due to the number of distilleries clustered in a one mile radius. During the 19th century Dublin whiskey became globally recognised as the Premier whiskey in the world. Renowned for its “smooth” and unique “character” it sold at a premium to all other types of whiskey. As a result of this success some of the largest distilleries in the world emerged from these small craft Dublin distillers. Unfortunately as Irish whiskey fell on hard times so did distilling in Dublin and the last still ran cold in 1976 until now.

An excellent golden rum from the talented Richard Seale’s Foursquare distillery in Barbados. Doorly’s 5yo is great in cocktails or for sipping on its own over ice.
Foursquare Rum Distillery’s limited edition 2004 rum from their ‘Exceptional Cask Selection’ is bottled at cask strength (59% ABV) and as with all Richard Seale’s rums it focuses on authenticity and taste with no sugar or sweetener added. A blend of pot and column still rums, it is aged for 11 years in American Oak ex Bourbon casks, flavours include demerara sugar, dried fruit, toffee, vanilla, oak and a hint of chocolate.
DOORLY’S To produce the unique character of Doorly’s XO, very old rums are selected by the master blender and matured for a second time in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks, producing a delicious fusion of complex flavours from the cask and the well-aged rums.

A traditional Italian amaretto made with crushed almonds. The name comes from a Venetian legend. Salizada refers to one of the first paved streets in Venice, where you can find a red stone in the shape of a heart. When lovers touch it they will love each other for ever after.
To get the intense flavour profile desired for their Myrtil liqueur, Bepi Tosolini let wild bilberries infuse in a mixture of sugar and neutral spirit for 4 months. The result is a a sweet liqueur that is bursting with bilberry brightness.
An interesting and fabulous liqueur made from an infusion and distillate of wild strawberries, which are harvested and infused for over four months. With its sweet and intense wild strawberry flavour, this is quite simply delicious.
A dark liquorice liqueur from Tosolini. It’s almost opaque, which fits in well with its name - Black Moon. This uses liquorice from the Italian region of Calabria in the very south of the country.

Mackmyra Skördetid (Harvest) is a Swedish single malt whisky, partially aged in Masi Costasera Amarone casks. The result is a whisky of great flavour and colour with sweet, rich and fruity notes of red grapes, raisins and soft, herbal spiciness.
The pink colour of this whisky comes from finishing on casks that previously stored sweet cherry wine. The result is an elegant whisky with notes of vanilla, fruit, spicy oak, sweet cherry and berries.
For this edition of Moment, the Master Blender got company from the Swedish singer and songwriter Tomas Ledin. During a stroll in the Bodås mine, they found a couple of casks that previously stored Sauternes wine. Both Angela and Tomas found them fantastic and knew instantly that these casks was going to be the Moment Ledin.

Phenomenology and whisky. What, you may wonder, is the connection? Phenomenology is a way of thinking about ourselves and the very personal, subjective nature of experience. It’s a school of thought in psychology that focuses on phenomena, or, the experiences that we get from our senses--what we see, taste, smell, etc. Somehow, we saw a link between phenomenology and whisky. We’d long been working on a blend of single malts that combines seemingly dissonant flavour profiles, but together creates something compelling. We landed on a recipe that elicited a surprising range of reactions and descriptions, each person taking away something different from the whisky. Rather than try to settle on whose perceptions were ‘right’ or ‘wrong’, we were inspired by the phenomenological school of thought to consider how different people experience the same phenomenon.
We recently acquired a parcel of casks of mature, heavy-peated single malt whisky from a distillery located along Pier Road, in the Southeast of the island of Islay. This was a parcel of American oak barrels filled with massively peaty malt whisky — tarry and full of bonfire-like smokiness.

LIMITED EDITIONS A 5th generation family firm, Maxime Trijol first started producing Cognac in 1859. Since then they have built on their expertise as growers and distillers, becoming professional distillers in 1962 and finally starting to bottle Cognac under their own name. Maxime Trijol distil every drop of Cognac that they bottle and produce two ranges; Classic, which is a blend from grapes grown throughout Cognac, and Grande Champagne, which is produced solely from grapes grown in the Grande Champagne ‘Premier Cru’ sub-region. In addition to this, Maxime Trijol occasionally produce and bottle vintage Cognac in very limited quantities.

Until 1745, surgeons and barbers worked side by side. From this year onwards, King George II of Great Britain took the initiative to make a distinction between the two professions and separated the two roles accordingly, resulting in the barbers’ responsibilities being limited to the cutting and styling hair and shaving.
Porter’s Gin is a fusion of old and new. Unbound by conventional methods, we create our gin using a combination of both modern and traditional techniques. Using cold distillation allows us to extract light flavours from delicate botanicals normally damaged by heat. However, some botanicals are better distilled in the classical way, so we developed our recipe with the UK’s oldest gin distillery, ensuring that we build upon tradition.
Despite this, many barbers managed to preserve a particular method widely used in these revoked medical functions which involved the use of gin, the alcoholic drink of that particular period, as a lotion for shaving purposes. Gin was thus incorporated into the practices of some of the most renowned barbers, bringing an air of freshness and aroma to their services.
All our botanicals are carefully selected and ethically sourced. Each playing an important role in creating a balanced flavour profile with nothing else, aside from water, being added to our gin after distillation. Once we have macerated our unique ingredients, to bring out their essential oils, they are then distilled with 100% British grain wheat spirit.

The botanicals used to create our wonderful gin are: Juniper, angelica, almond, coriander, liquorice, lemon, orange, buddha’s hand, pink peppercorn, orris root, cassia bark and cinnamon. The resulting gin has a bold juniper body and unique citrus profile.
