My eyes glimpsed through, in between giant scrapers. I glanced a mysterious form … a charming silhouette in the skyline. As I approached closer, more silhouettes connected … completing the picture. I suddenly arrived, in the hands of a monumental sculpture; an organism of no doors and no keys, but transparent skin that scaled me down; to a creature so curious to enter.
The incentive behind the tower’s design
was to integrate suburban lifestyle into a futuristic busy downtown core. The fluidic sculptural design responds best to the specific needs of our task by preserving the transparency while maintaining the essence of a residential community. By placing two transparent “cores” within an open-air structural diagrid and then slicing up the tower via evenly spaced sky platforms.; a dynamic relationship between public and private is introduced. The resuting design is an interplay between what is void and what is real, depending on whether the vessel being focused on is the tower as a whole or the platf orm’s environment which is only a fragment of the skyscraper.

The tower is composed of one apartment type, the “merging triplex”. The organic
and transparent nature of the triplex attempts to highlight natural light in terms of time and space whilst providing residents with a 360 degree view. Each apartment structurally blends with one another to achieve a more spacious setting, thus preventing the need for columns, and providing the tower with a more even distrubtion of forces which in return makes the twisting nature possible.

“A facade in architecture is not only a part of the architecture itself but also an interface with the world outside.”
The layering of facades plays an important role behind the logic of
the tower. The inner glass facade which houses the residential triplex modules acts as a medium that integrates the space within and the environment platform outside. Whereas the environments are collectively treated with an open diagrid skin, a mammomth steel structure that acts as an interface between the skyscraper and the surrounding city.
One is transported through a massive central elevator shaft which stops at every sky platform. Once on the desired
platform, each apartment is accessed through two more private elevator shafts, one per residential core. The energetic movement throughout the tower allows one to navigate the unique public spaces that play host to various activities, hence promoting a healthier lifestyle and an increased sense of social interaction. With four triplexes per platform, a collection of mini-communities with diverse qualities is created to produce a “city” within a city.

The design intervention for this residential complex takes advantage of
the site’s accessibility. The idea was to manipulate geometries to attain a degree of order. By interlocking, shifting and taking away; the resulting architecture is one that gives an importance to the experience of arrival. The complex is composed of three identical forms where each form is made up of three apartments, two studios and one duplex.

The proposed design for the desert velocity hotel in the Great Salt Lake desert gives
emphasis on speed, the flatness of the site and the visionary technology that awaits our planet in the coming decades. The intervention results from the desire to schematically design a network that combines energy, nature and technology, one that plays homage to the vehicle and the machine that has facilitated man’s journey on Earth. The project strives to create a dynamic relationship between speed and architecture. ** some

The centre is composed of two forms; an opaque rectangular block which contains
the cultural centre and an elevated glass and steel strip which emanates from the ground and wraps itself around the block. Supported by angled steel pilotis, the strip contains the library and creates a covered exterior space below. In addition, it acts as a ramp which connects a public plaza to a peaceful roof garden. As such, the architectural form frames exciting public spaces.

T
he design proposal for the Rosemont metro station in Montreal was based on my desire to create an exceptional space without constructing a building above ground. In the early stages, I was inspired by the shape of a lotus leaf which later evolved through the research I did on Richard Serra’s curved sculptures. The man’s perception of dealing with spaces intrigued me and in return my visualizations for creating a fun and interactive architectural space was realized through this design task. The project was created with the intention of bringing people to the area not just for its use as a hub of transportation but also as a means of social gathering plaza. The tilted lotus project is composed of perforated metallic sheets which are manipulated and rotated throughout the site to create a curvilinear playful form, one that transforms the space into a twisted reinterpretation of “Alice in Wonderland” where factors such as scale, time and shadow movements are enhanced by the dynamic shapes of these massive sheets. The result is a continous desire to explore the unique perspectives from various viewpoints during different times of the day.

Task The introductory project to first year design studio was a subjective reinterpretation of a recent building in Montreal by a well-known architect. The assignment called for a three-dimensional artifact based on ideas inspired by observations and discoveries made on site.
Design We started with a cube, the most primitive three-dimensional shape. The relationship between solid and void was a strong element in the building chosen, thus we subtracted from the cube to create open space. The L-shape mass gave us versatility and at the same time modularity to create a form. In return, this form became our moodbox.
Construction Model consists of 13 identical L-shaped pieces. Each fragment was designed with its specific miter joints that would not interrupt the fluidity and create a complex yet effortless scultpture.

A Space of Fantasy. My passion for electronic music especially trance, which is perhaps the most upbeat genre in the world, is the driving force behind this fantasy project. With speeds reaching up to 140bpm; I imagined an architectural structure that can cater to this style of music. An afterhours establishment that serves as a temple for those that seek an adrenaline rush. A place where architecture becomes responsive to the music, taking the visitor on a psychological trip which ends with a sensational ascension to ground level. These sketches are a glimpse into this imaginative world of mine.

+ perinthia
w / ece inan & danielle makhoul
The design of this object was inspired by a fictional city named Perinthia. It was a city so carefully built by the greatest architects and planners. Once completed it was the most perfect city ever constructed. As various peoples came to populate it; the first generation born in Perinthia began to grow within its walls; and these citizens reached the age to marry and have children. Perinthia’s streets today are infested with ugly creature-like inhabitants that terrorize the city. But the worse cannot be seen; guttural howls are heard from the cellars and lofts, where families hide children with three heads or with six legs. Perinthia’s planners are dazzled and confused. What could have went wrong? Why did this glistening city become so dark and void of a soul? The simulacrum represents the city with its clean-cut geometric exterior and its dark sharp interior ** assignment based on the book “Invisible Cities” by Italo Calvino.
+ cardboard chair
w / eric nguyen
According to Vitruvius’s famous assertion that a structure must exhibit the qualities of firmitas, utilitas, venustas, the cardboard chair should also follow these criteria. Part of our first year design studio, we were assigned the task to design a cardboard chair that can withstand the forces of an average person if he or she were to sit on it. Comfort, ease of assembly and most importantly economy of material were essential for the design process. This assignment allowed me and my colleagues to establish a more thorough understanding of limitations when it comes to designing.
