Susannah Blinkoff was born and raised in Manhattan, New York by legendary parents and was destined to live a life in the arts. Her father, Richard Blinkoff, was a renowned photographer specializing in fashion. Her mother, Carol Hall, a composer-lyricist who toured with Kris Kristofferson and Don McLean in the 1970’s, recorded two albums for Electra Records, and wrote songs for the children’s classic Free to be You and Me and the infamous Broadway show, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Susannah’s parents delighted in their creativity and always encouraged their children to do the same. Her childhood was filled with music and theatre. She attended the everliberal Little Red School House in Greenwich Village, an artistic, progressive, and politically charged environment where many of the teachers and parents marched in the 1960’s civil rights protests. This atmosphere played a prominent role in defining her spiritual interests and shaping who she is today. She grew up surrounded by successful writers and musicians, where the high-school hangout was backstage at 46th Street Theatre (now The Richard Rodgers Theatre) and parties were filled with family friends like Lesley Gore "It’s My Party", Martin Charnin (Annie) and Adam Guettel (Floyd Collins, Light in the Piazza) playing songs in the living room. Yet it hadn’t occurred to Susannah that she, too, would write songs one day. At the time, her interest was acting. She made her off-Broadway debut when she was just a high school freshman, and continued her education at Brown University, where she acted in over 20 plays alongside fellow students Laura Linney, Richard Topol, Tim Blake Nelson, Todd Haynes, and Pulitzer-winning playwright Lynn Nottage, among others. Susannah went on to become an accomplished singer/songwriter, actress and screenwriter. Her smooth, sultry voice voice has been compared to superstars such as Diana Ross and Eva Cassidy. She’s written songs for movies and TV shows such as My Super Ex-Girlfriend. Multiple songs from her album Let’s Pretend made the Billboard charts in Hawaii, Nebraska, and North Carolina. Her latest album Far More just hit the airwaves this year. As a screenwriter, she was a co-writer the award-winning film BellyFruit and its opening song with composer/producer Stephen Bray, which enjoyed a successful run on Showtime as well as the independent film circuit. Above all, Susannah is an educator and activist who believes in the healing power of music. More specifically, she’s committed to helping disadvantaged people find their voices. She has taught acting and writing to homeless teens and teenage mothers, and currently leads a weekly singing class for incarcerated and recently paroled men in Los Angeles. She also volunteers with foster youth, and has fostered other children as well. Susannah currently lives with her husband, son, and 2 fluffy dogs in Los Angeles, CA.

What inspired you to be creative? I was inspired by my parents from the very start. They are both artistic entrepreneurs, which can be difficult at times, but so very fulfilling. My mom, Carol Hall, is a singer-songwriter who recorded two albums for Elektra Records in the ’70’s and toured with Don McLean and Kris Kristofferson. She also wrote songs for Sesame Street, Free to Be You & Me, and the score for the long-running Broadway hit The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas which was later made into a movie. My dad gave up a career in science and instead chose to be a fashion photographer. They both raised me to value the talents I was gifted with and to share them creatively. How did you get started being a singer? I grew up going to a lot of Broadway theatre and loved the musical aspect. I sang all through my childhood and as a teen did some “professional children” showcases at night clubs. But being so young, it was common practice for child actors to have their parents drive them to auditions and take care of them backstage—something my parents didn’t have the time for, as enthusiastic as they were about my talents. This put an intermission on my dreams for a while.

a very “pop songwriting” approach, but I enjoy the twist of knowing what the song is about before I even begin writing. A few years ago, I was attending a workshop led by the medium, Paul Selig "The Book of Knowing and Worth". He channels the wisdom of spiritual guides that I resonate with deeply. During the workshop he mentioned the words, “far more” and they spoke to me as a song title. I ran with the title and worked it into a full-on lyric. I was so inspired that I went back to my hotel room and recorded a demo version of the song on my laptop using Garage Band. I later shared it my co-producer John Ballinger and we began building the track from there. What inspires you most to write a song? I write a lot of songs about inner soul-searching and spiritual concepts like forgiveness, conscious choices, and gratitude. Psychological concepts, I suppose. These are aspects of life that I’m drawn to personally and I also believe that they are universally supportive. There are also a few love songs and break-up songs sprinkled throughout my song catalogue but not many. I want my songs to be musical affirmations, anthems and lullabies for humanity.

It wasn’t until my late twenties when I was trying to quit smoking cigarettes that I realized singing would be the perfect substitute. I started to really appreciate the sound of my voice and loved the way it felt to sing. It fed my heart and soul in a way that nothing had before. Over the years, I created my own personal style of singing, much different from my mom’s.

Who is your favorite songwriter or singer? That’s impossible to answer, I can’t choose one favorite! I’d say my favorite songwriters are: My mom, Irving Berlin, Alec Wilder, Carole King, Lucinda Williams, Alanis Morissette, Taylor Swift, Sting and Lin-Manuel Miranda. And my favorite singers are: Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Bette Midler, Sheryl Crow, Aretha Franklin and Alanis Morissette.

Tell us about your songwriting process. I’m not particularly disciplined about writing, so I do well with deadlines. On occasion, I’ve literally had to commit to making an album first, in order to push myself to create songs. I really enjoy the process of taking my songs to a studio and working alongside a producer. Together we choose musical elements that layer into my songs and bring them to life. Recording a song is almost like cooking in this way.

How do you balance your music with other daily responsibilities? I would say it’s like juggling, but I don’t even know how to juggle! The truth is that I’m extremely lucky to have the financial freedom to hire help when it’s needed. My husband also assists around the house and understands that my music is more than a hobby. Even so, I have an endless list of things to do and the moment I cross off one thing, I’m adding another to the bottom!

Before I record, it’s kind of a quiet, magical experience where I’ll just hear a melody or a phrase in my head, and a song starts forming. Sometimes I sit at the piano and figure out chords. I’ve also been inspired to create a song just by something that someone says, especially if it sounds like a great song title. I love working from a title first. It’s

Being an indie artist requires me to self-motivate. I’m the one who has to push myself to keep creating. No one’s calling me up with deadlines or asking what’s next. That drives me a little crazy. I really look forward to the day when people hire me to create. I’m sure I’ll still have a mile-long to-do list, but my priorities will be much more clear.

Where is your dream venue to Perform? I love performing in intimate venues. For instance, this year I’m doing a series of house concerts to raise money for different charities. I also have several mini-tours scheduled in Texas, Los Angeles and Northern California. That being said, my absolute dream place to Performwould be at The Hollywood Bowl—one of my all-time favorite places in Los Angeles. Why did you decide to be a singer and songwriter? I believe we’re all are here on the planet to share our talents and gifts to enrich the world. It’s as though we’re each given a unique gift as another form of communication to reach out and touch the hearts of others. I almost want to say that I didn’t choose to be a singer/songwriter, it chose me. And it wants to be shared. I hope to inspire, empower and relax people with my music. How would you categorize your music? I would say my music has an eclectic mixed style of ethereal-soulful-chill-spiritual groove. I’ve also heard others refer to it as “hypnotic” and “uplifting,” which I like. The

spirituality is inclusive and universal. The grooves are slow, but danceable. You can stretch or walk fast to the beats. The songs have elements of pop, funk, world, and soul all used in surprising ways. Much like Portishead mixed with Madonna’s, Ray of Light.

Why are you passionate about music? Music is extremely healing and is scientifically proven to have beneficial effects on our nervous systems and hearts. I have also personally seen and felt it’s healing effects. Every week I teach a singing class to a group of recently paroled men at a rehab facility. They are often very guarded and defensive, and I watch as music softens them to a smile. They have repeatedly told me how cheered up and energized my one-hour singing class leaves them. And every week, for the last two and a half years, I’ve seen it in action; shifting and lifting their spirits in some way. This is the reason I’m so passionate about music and why I believe in its magical, healing effects.

has cleaned up and monitors the Santa Monica Bay, and STEAMcoders, a group that makes technology and coding classes available to underserved kids in the San Gabriel Valley. Also, of course, Amity Foundation, where I work with parolees. Where can Eden Magazine readers find more information about you? Check out www.susannahb.com for video clips and links to my albums. I’ll be releasing my new video “I Am Here” this spring. Do you have any upcoming performances? I have a few house concerts over the summer. The locations can be found on my website or on Instagram @susannahbmusic.

Which charity is close to your heart and why? There are actually many charities that my husband and I have been supporting for years. Lately we’ve started producing house concerts where he cooks a big dinner and I do a jazzy cabaret act with a 4-piece band. We raise money for whatever charity our host wants to support to help people, the environment, kids, or animals. Every gift means a great deal to a small charity.

Is there a message that you would like to leave with our readers? Yes! Everyone is blessed with something to share. An additional way to communicate and connect with others. A talent or skill, extra time, extra money, extra anything. Share this with those around you and with your community. Get involved, even in the smallest way. We have to take care of each other more. We are all on this planet together, it is time to live together, harmoniously. We have more than we think we do. Think of a way you can give to those who have less than you.

A few weeks ago, we raised almost $8,000 in one evening! The charities we support are: Peace4Kids, serving foster youth in South Los Angeles, Heal the Bay, which

Feeling down? Consider this By Charlie &

Pain is inevitable; suffering is optional Linda Bloom

Regardless of what we do, life will at some point, bring us losses, disappointments, and instances of physical and emotional pain. Pain is the experience of something that creates physical, mental or emotional distress. It’s the body’s way of bringing or awareness to something that needs our attention. Pain, either physical or emotional, is the body’s way to inform us that we need to attend to something. Although pain isn’t an emotion, there are emotions that are painful to experience. Grief, anxiety, guilt, shame, and rage are all examples. Emotions are energy in motion in the body. Some are more difficult to experience than others and we identify them as being “negative,” but those are simply labels that describe our assessment of those sensations. Suffering is what we experience when there is prolonged resistance to painful experiences. It is often during our efforts to avoid, deny, or resist that which is inevitable, that we create suffering.

14 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

People who live at a high level of well-being know how to respond to the messages they receive from their body, and are able to attend to their emotions appropriately and skillfully. They are neither compulsive pleasure-seekers, nor compulsive avoiders. They don’t compulsively deny pain, but rather experience feelings and sensations with a minimum of attachment or aversion. The tendency to withdraw from painful experiences is a deeply embedded pattern. We do it involuntarily, which in many instances is a good thing. We don’t have to try to decide whether or not to let go of a hot plate, our nervous system implements that decision and takes the appropriate action in a nano-second. Most people don’t have any idea that another response is possible. If you are running a marathon, and develop an excruciating chest pain, it’s appropriate to stop running. If you don’t, your body will be stopped in its tracks, literally. The Advantages of Staying Present for Discomfort And yet, there are times when staying present with uncomfortable feelings is more skillful or appropriate than letting go of the hot pan. Developing the capacity to listen to someone’s grievances, rather than to disengage or become defensive with them will bring about a very different outcome. If your business partner is upset with you because you didn’t do something you promised to do, and you are feeling pain, it may be better to experience the discomfort than to walk away or argue, either one of which is an example of trying to disengage from your own pain. To be able to distinguish a skillful from an unskillful response requires the development of the trait of discernment, as well as the capacity to tolerate intense feelings and sensations. One of the things that distinguishes highly accomplished athletes from others is their ability to tolerate physical pain and discomfort. We are not encouraging people to create unnecessary suffering or to seek it out, but to increase their capacity to be present with strong sensations with compassion and care. While we can’t eliminate pain, we can learn to respond to it in ways that don’t prolong it and minimize unnecessary distress. We can’t expect to be happy all the time; that would be unrealistic. But there is more that we can do to make room for discomfort so that we experience it thoroughly and then it came move through us and pass on by. The antidote to suffering lies not in the elimination of pain, but in our ability to meet it with compassion and acceptance. When we

can do this we will also become able to respond to another’s pain in the same way. Not only is making room for some unhappiness a gift to those we love, but to be able to hold their blues with them is a profound addition to developing any healthy, wholesome relationship.

THE WAY I SEE IT

16 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

with Joe Santos, Jr.

IF AGE IS ONLY A NUMBER… MINE SHALL REMAIN

UNLISTED By Joe Santos, Jr.

Last month I woke up to another Birthday. A milestone. Like a stone set up beside a road to mark the distance in miles to a particular place? Hmmm, more like a tombstone. How did I go from Yay! It’s my Birthday! To ugh, it’s my Birthday? You must admit the universe is a most powerful place. Maybe it’s time for a redo of life as we know it. Like, we are born, grow to 35 years old physically, keep learning and maturing emotionally, mentally and spiritually, for about 300 years or so, and then we move onto that great big beyond and rearrange the stars or something. Well, it’s a thought. Not a bad thought compared to a few other thoughts that creep through my head such as…reality! Have you ever noticed as we get older that we spend more time thinking and talking about yesterday? When I was younger I don’t recall doing that. Thoughts and conversations were always about tomorrow, next week, next year, etc. Being able to live a long, healthy successful life is a privilege, but, it brings a boatload of challenges. How many of us are prepared? It takes a lot to move through the years gracefully. I have met a few who are managing to do so.

It is awesome and inspiring but we have all witnessed the flip side and that is one scary prospect! A part of me lives life in the moment and in truth that is ultimately all I own, the moment. But, as I collect enough “moments” I can’t help thinking beyond them. Am I ready? Are any of us? We live in an ageist society. What is middle-aged anyway? “Somewhere between 40 and death”? Turning 30 it’s time for Botox!? Who comes up with this stuff? Who are we listening to? Millennials? Marketing? Our inner voice? How do we let ourselves even subscribe to it? I know we are brainwashed by the media and the images we see on TV and in advertising but I’m smarter than this. I don’t need to see another hundred commercials for bunion relief, osteoporosis, erectile dysfunction, arthritis, hemorrhoids, fibromyalgia or varicose veins. I’m glad there are cures, treatments and solutions for all these things but please stop reminding us that we are collapsing by the minute! I know how I feel every day, how I think, how I look. I know my responsibility to how to live my best life. The tools are out there. Yes, there are “potions and lotions” and notions to keep the wrinkle monsters at bay. There are pain relievers and make-up deceivers to keep us recognizing ourselves (somewhat) but what happens when we look within? Deep within. What cream helps with that? What procedure, which Doctor, what prescription? How many prescriptions? I don't have the answers but I have a few hopes. I hope to stay interested and interesting, to enjoy my own company, stay visible, viable and continue to surround myself with good people who are also active, current, and curious. To laugh every day, make no excuses, make time to pray, give thanks, be of service, accountable and remember to pay the best parts of my every day forward, love completely, and dismiss judgment, not just on others but most importantly on myself. Maybe, just maybe one day I’ll earn that special place in helping to rearrange the stars. But until then I’ll keep moisturizing, and of course, I’ll choose to continue to keep my age unlisted… after-all it’s only a number.

Here is a wonderful story of how the Universe works: A friend of mine phoned me, quite upset. She had arrived at the airport to a several-hour delay. We talked for a bit, and she told me she was going to grab a cup of coffee. In the little coffee shop, impatiently waiting for her flight, she met the man of her dreams. Coincidence? These things usually happen when you least expect them and you need them the most. It’s being at the right place at the right time. Some people say, “Timing is everything.” I believe this is true. When you are on the right path in life, these synchronicities happen more frequently. The Universe is confirming that you are doing well and telling you to stay on your path.

Coincidence or Synchronicity? By Nancy E. Yearout

When you are not on the right road, your life does not fall into place as easily as you might like it to. This is universal powers that be nudging you to change it up. I have had so many of these encounters, I cannot count them all. When a synchronicity happens, I give thanks. I know that it’s the Universe confirming that I am on the right road.

2

As you go through your day, do you ever stop to wonder whether things that happen to you are a coincidence— or is it synchronicity? When you begin to pay attention to these events, you will soon come to realize that nothing happens purely by accident. Everything happens as it’s supposed to. I know that when I run into someone I have not seen in a long time, it is always for a reason. They oftentimes say, “I was just thinking of you.” Think about it: They often have something to share with you that is important. Maybe a mutual friend is ill and you need to call them, or they tell you about their new accountant and you just happen to be looking for one. Is this a coincidence or a synchronized event orchestrated for your benefit by the universal powers that be?

Nancy E. Yearout is an author, a spiritual life coach, and a motivational speaker. Nancy has enjoyed an extensive corporate career as a sales coordinator with one of the Big Three automakers in Detroit. Her sales, management, and marketing skills have grown with each step of her business. Her success has blessed her with the real life experience, knowledge, and common sense that is required to help others through life’s challenges.

I am sure you have heard someone say, “I was at the right place at the right time, and I met the perfect mate,” or “I connected with the right professional and obtained my goals in business. How lucky I am!” Is it luck? When I chose to pay attention, I realized that the coincidences in my life were not just random events. God actually has a plan for me: my life is synchronized. When you’re in tune with the universal source, the right person and the right circumstances in your life. It’s up to you to make the choice to act upon the opportunity presented to you. Your choices create the course of your life. You have been given the free will to choose.

Nancy has been fortunate to acquire hands-on energy healing skills from an Aztec healer from Mexico, and she has helped many balance their energy fields. You Get What You Feel By Andrew Matthews

20 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

The Myth: Success makes you happy. The Fact: Happiness makes you successful. Here’s the good news. Changing your thoughts changes how you feel. And more good news: a few negative thoughts won’t ruin your life. You have up to 50,000 thoughts per day. Amongst those 50,000 thoughts, some are bound to be a bit negative. The odd passing thought won’t make you rich or poor, happy or miserable. But a whole bunch of thoughts is a different matter. Lots of similar thoughts – e.g. lots of happy thoughts or lots of “life is lousy” thoughts – become a feeling that determines your destiny. A Magical Life Did this ever happen to you? You: • went to an inspiring seminar • read an uplifting book • joined a church, or • fell in love.

es. But then your energy dropped – maybe you suffered a disappointment or two and you were back to normal. But some people never return to the old normal – they begin a new chapter in their life and create a new normal, they: • keep reading inspirational books • mix with uplifting people • develop immovable faith, or • fall deeper in love. In other words they keep FEELING good. And so they become one of those people who live a charmed life, who turns defeat into victory, who always meets the right people at the right time. It’s not what you know so much as how you feel.

You felt so good. Life was different, almost magical. It was like you had begun a whole new chapter. You were optimistic. Challenges were easier to handle, you had more energy, people were nicer. Maybe you thought, “This is the how my life will be from now on”. You were cruising – for three weeks. Then gradually, things returned to normal. So what happened? Were you kidding yourself? Were you deluded? No you weren’t. You were simply FEELING better – and your happier feelings created happier circumstanc-

Get the Feeling To get what you want you first need to have the feeling of what you want – as if it has already arrived. You might ask, “Isn’t that the same as prayer?” It can be, but it usually isn’t. Most of us learned to pray in a different way, more like: “God, I am a powerless sinner and my life is a mess, can you please fix it?” This approach doesn’t work and now we know why. If you are filled with feelings of disappointment, powerlessness, and the belief that “I am a bad person”, you create more experiences to match. Traditional cultures the world over acknowledge the power of feeling. The Navajo Indians understand: you don’t wish for rain. You FEEL the rain, you give thanks that it has already arrived. Feeling is the prayer. That is how life works. Why is it that Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists Christians and Jews – whether they be fundamentalist, orthodox, unorthodox, charismatic, neo-charismatic or metrosexual – believe in prayer? It is because it is not about your particular brand or religious faction and it is not about the words. It is about the feeling. When your feeling is a perfect match with your goal – or to put it another way, when all doubt is eliminated – the goal is yours. Small Steps You say, “How can I feel great when I feel terrible?” You can’t. But you can take a small step toward feeling better – and then another. When you begin to look for good things, complain less, forgive more and find even tiny things to be grateful for, you feel better. Do the same tomorrow and you feel a little better still. Now you have momentum, a glimmer of hope. Good things happen AFTER you begin to feel better. It Doesn’t Seem Fair It might seem like a cruel twist – “Why should I have to FEEL successful or loved before I can BE successful or loved?” It may seem like an odd way to run a universe. But here is how the spiritual masters explain it:

You are a part of everything. No one is stopping you having anything, God is not stopping you having anything. Whatever you want is within reach – you just don’t know it. What stops you are YOUR BELIEFS. As you change your beliefs – and so change how you feel - your goals begin to drop in your lap. In a Nutshell Life doesn’t happen to you. Life happens through you. The Language of Flowers for the

New Prince

By Cheralyn Darcey While you may be familiar with your zodiac sign and maybe even the precious stone associated with the month of your birth, did you know that The Language of Flowers shares with us blossoms connected with not only the month, but also the day and even land of your birth? These ‘Birth Flowers’ will vary across the world but will still hold messages of hope, support and insight no matter where you where born or the places you find yourself throughout life. Birth Flowers are without a doubt, the very best selection for bouquets and floral gifts for someone on their birthday or at times when they are not feeling themselves. These special, personal flowers also hold insight into personality and values and maybe even hint at the future. The arrival of the lovely new prince on 23rd April to William and Kate, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, falls within the traditional western culture Birthday Flower month of the Daisy and this means all flowers holding the common name of daisy but particularly Common Daisy (Bellis perennis) which means happiness, calm, playfulness, peace of mind and protection and Shasta Daisy (Leucanthemum maximum) which conveys happiness, friendship and stability. The Sweet Pea (Lathyrus odoratus) is also indicated as a flower associated with April and again a blossom of protection and harmony but also of gratitude, luck, responsibility and comfort.

25 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

These birth flowers of the new prince indicate a very cheerful and playful person who is also someone that values relationships, especially friendships and will most likely be the first to the assistance of others in need.

truth, faith, protection and honesty, nested within a Red Rose (Rosa) meaning courage, respect, love and passion. Together they merge as the Tudor Rose badge to mean peace and unity.

Should the Prince find himself in other lands, the flowers he would find most supportive of him are those of his birth month and these include, in China or Japan ~ Cherry Blossom (Prunus serrulata) which mean peace and harmony and for example, Australia ~ Tea Tree (Leptospermum myrsinoides) which mean luck and attainment. In the USA, he would still find Daisy one of his birth flowers.

Everyone has flowers associated with the date, time and place of birth and once you understand The Language of Flowers and the meanings and energies these personal blossoms can share, you might just find deeper personal insight as well as ways to bring about personal energetic change. Your flower bouquets and decorations, garden plants, botanical products such as perfumes and even artworks and textiles can say and mean so much more for you and those you share them with.

With his birthday falling on the patron saint of England’s day, St. George’s Day, we can look to further botanical associations. The flower of St. George is Valerian (Valeriana officinalis), a powerful herbal remedy and a flower that indicates those of a very accommodating disposition but also means protection and merit. Each day of the year has flowers deeply connected with it as well and some of those associated with 23rd April include Pasqueflower (Pulsatilla vulgaris) meaning calm and balance but also indicate a need to understand when it is time to let go and warn of being carried away with scattered thoughts. Perhaps the new little Prince may also be a bit of a dreamer. Another flower is the Wild Rose (Rosa acicularis) which means trust, new paths, promises, contracts and marriage. This blossom would tell us that marriage is clearly in the prince’s future and something he would value and honor greatly. He would also be one who could be deeply trusted and it looks like he may be a bit of a ground-breaker. Being born under the zodiac sign of Taurus, 21st April – 21st May, the new prince has a bunch of flowers connected with him and this astrological sign. Lily of the Valley (Convallaria majalis) is a flower for all Taureans because it bonds with their grounded warm-heartedness. It also agrees with their loving nature. Cherry (Prunus serrulata) offers peace and harmony to the, at times, inflexible Taurus. The flower of his homeland, England, is the Tudor Rose, which isn’t really a flower at all but a symbol created by Henry VII, (1457 ~ 1509), on his marriage to Elizabeth of York in 1486 by combining the White Rose of York and the Red Rose of Lancaster. Still, this created floral symbol holds and speaks The Language of Flowers, not only for the new prince but also for all who were born, live under it and honor it. The Tudor Rose displays a White Rose (Rosa), meaning 26 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

Referred to as the ‘Voice of Women’ in the Iranian community, Ziba’s lyrics are colored by passionate feminist tones, love, compassion and universal human stories. “Obviously, I am a shameless romantic and shamelessly, a woman. The beauty that I see is abundant and joyful and always full of love, passion and sensuality, as they are my salvation.” Her collaboration with Chilean-American Jazz pianist, Dr. Jose-Miguel Yamal, has deepened the presence of fiery jazz and Latin music in her performances. They have performed together worldwide since 2006. The Healing Potential of Natural

Beauty

Throughout my entire life it is the natural world that I have turned to and which has soothed, healed and guided me. In particular, in recent years I have also learned the deep healing potential to be found in natural beauty and how vital this is for my well-being. It seems that through feeding my Soul when feasting on the beauty of the natural world, I keep my physical and emotional self well and balanced too. In our fast-paced, modern societies I think it is easy to forget just how vitally nourishing it is to stop and smell the roses, literally, and frequently. Living so much of our lives in urban and mechanised environments makes it doubly important to do so now. But just what is it that enables natural beauty to help us so? How does looking at a view of a crystal clear lake, or a magnificent waterfall, or a beautiful brightly coloured flower, or the astounding vividness of a dragonfly’s wings help us feel better? I think there are a number of things going on when we experience the natural world in this way and which stops us in our tracks as if to say: “Look, breath, be here and appreciate.” First, it immediately brings us back into the present moment, to the here and now, rather than in our thoughts, fears or constant planning ahead. Second, it naturally seems to encourage us to take a deeper breath and a longer exhale that normal. This in itself brings us back into our bodies and emotions, rather than our heads and facilitates a release; recalibrating our nervous system in the process. Third, the act of appreciating such beauty in a deeper way can transform our dissatisfactions, preoccupations and worries quickly into their opposite state: That of gratitude. Through appreciating the wonder before our eyes we can also begin to appreciate the wonder in our own lives. It is as though the natural world offers us a vast mirror in which to see how we and our lives truly are. What a gift! I also find that through regular time in nature and in this deep immersion in beauty that not only do I feel healthier and more balanced but that my creative spark is also reignited. It is often after time spent in nature that I get a hint of a first line of a poem, or an article begins to form and usually on something quite spontaneous which pops into my awareness. I feel that

this happens because through quietening the left-side of my brain, taking deeper breaths, and basking in the appreciation of beauty that the more creative, rightside of my brain suddenly re-awakens and I am filled with inspiration and ideas. More further testimony for the gifts and healing potential of beauty. As John O’Donohue also says: "To behold beauty dignifies your life; it heals you and calls you out beyond the smallness of our own self-limitation to experience new horizons. To experience beauty is to have your life enlarged." This “enlargement” happens on many levels and I feel that our route back to a more balanced and healthier way of living is precisely through such appreciation of the natural world around us. Our ancestors, who lived much more closely connected to the land and the animals around them knew this, and indeed, worked in harmony with the beauty of their world as they understood its inherent power and capacity to heal them and keep them balanced. Next time you step outside take a moment and especially at this time or year, to really savour the beauty of the blossom quietly arriving on the trees, the brightness of the yellow daffodils dancing in the wind, and the enlivening bird song as they awaken to the new season once more. Quotes from John O’Donohue taken from Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom, and Beauty: The Invisible Embrace.

THE PORTRAIT PAINTER GOES WHERE FEW OUTSIDERS CAN

The Ageless Beauty of Patricia Morison By Juan Bastos

“Juan, I’m 99 years old, why would you ever want to do my portrait?” asked Broadway and film star, Patricia Morison, in 2014. If you see and meet this amazing woman, it’s easy to understand my desire to immortalize what the silver screen captured and for which Broadway audiences fell in love with over the years. Born in New York, she was a talented young artist and was supporting her family at the age of 17, working as an illustrator during the depression. She was offered a scholarship to study in Paris; however her passion was the theater. Having taken dance lessons with Martha Graham and possessing talent, grace, and beauty, she was signed to Paramount Pictures where Hollywood, for a few years, offered her the opportunity to star in movies playing opposite Spencer Tracey, Katherine Hepburn, Ray Milland, John Garfield, and Johnny Weissmuller, amongst others. However, after Cole Porter heard her sing, he asked her to do a new musical on Broadway that he was writing. Pat had been entertaining the troops singing in England in 1941 with Dorothy Lamour and Al Jolson, but decided to take the chance with Porter and go back to New York and star in “Kiss me Kate.” Playing opposite her friend Alfred Drake, the musical was a hit and made her into a Broadway star. Soon after that, she toured across the country with Yul Brynner in “The King and I.” I met Pat, who was brought along by a guest to one of our many dinner parties we’ve given over the years. She was then 86 years old and her beauty and radiance filled the room. Throughout the years, we have been good friends, and she’s delighted me with the most fascinating stories: befriending Diego Rivera and Frida Khalo in Mexico City when she was 21 (they introduced her to Leon Trotsky); going for walks with Eleanor Roosevelt in New York; and refusing a wedding proposal from Louis B. Mayer. When her only brother died in a car crash and she was playing “Kate” in a traveling tour, she had to decide whether or not to skip the performance to return to Los Angeles. She thought that if she didn’t play that evening, the cast would not be paid and the show would be cancelled. Well, the show went on, regardless of her grief. 40 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

The day of the sitting she wore a very becoming blue gown, which enhanced her beautiful eyes. My head-and-shoulders posed pastel drawing of her was part of my recent retrospective of my California portraits. Although some friends couldn’t attend the two-week exhibition, a 102-year-old Pat came in a wheelchair for the opening of the show. Beaming with her eternal smile, I wheeled her though the gallery, and always kind and complementary, the woman who was going to become a professional artist (but never gave up her passion for drawing and painting), congratulated me on my show. A few weeks ago, she celebrated her 103rd birthday in the company of her dear friends. A cake featuring her young face was designed for the celebration. Now, that amazing face has even been portrayed with sugar and candy!

Juan Bastos is widely known for his several hundred portrait commissions over the past three decades in the U.S., South America, and Europe. He has also been featured in a number of one-man and group shows, the most recent being his November 2017 retrospective of 40 California portraits at Denenberg Fine Arts in West Hollywood. How to Live

through your

Intuition By Tara-jenelle Walsch One of the most valuable tools that we all have is our intuition. Too often we look outside ourselves for guidance and protection when all the while we carry it within. Our innate sense of knowing is deeply underrated, which is most likely why we don’t trust it. Ironically, though, one of the most direct routes to trust is through the innate sense of knowing that is within each and every one of us. The reason that we don’t always trust our intuition is because we don’t fully understand it, and our lack of understanding around it decreases our faith in it. In fact, many people don’t really believe intuition exists at all. But it does. And you know this, intuitively. We’ve all had the experience of a strong hunch, a gut reaction or natural instinct—a surge of knowingness that expands past our ordinary thoughts. Maybe we get goose bumps to alert us, a twisted tummy, or tingle in our chest. No matter how we are receiving the message, it carries an inexplicable feeling that resonates with us beyond our mind, into our body, having emerged from our soul. Intuition is with us all of the time. Mostly, though, we wait until we need it before we begin to look for it. And interestingly enough, we put our fate in the hands of others first, draining resources such as family, friends, the Internet, even psychics—then lastly crawling back to the most reliable resource for our life, us, and resorting to going within for the direction we seek.

It’s been said that we can “tap into” our intuition, which is another way of saying that we can bring it forth upon command. This idea implies that our intuition is with us all of the time and that we can pick and choose when to “use” it. But, wait—if it were with us all the time, why wouldn’t we desire to live with it and through it, rather than wait until we need it, to call it forth? Presumably because, as mentioned above, we don’t fully understand it, therefore we don’t hold that as a real option. Just for kicks, I looked up the definition of intuition and literally chuckled out loud when I read some of the explanations. Check these two out: Intuition: {in-too-ish-uh, n} noun “A natural ability or power that makes it possible to know something without any proof or evidence.” ~Merriam-Webster “A phenomenon of the mind; the ability to acquire knowledge without inference or the use of reason.” ~Wikipedia What I found amusing about these definitions is that they seem to suggest that our intuition is a phenomenon or unique ability. But it’s not about tapping into your higher powers or “channeling” information from another entity. Those things would all suggest that there’s distance and separation between you and your intuition…and there is not. The actual name itself, in-tuition, carries the clear and irrefutable inference that we are receiving our very own teachings from deep within: Our inner schooling. But what is schooling us from inside? There’s no denying that something continues to propel us to take one direction over the other. In fact, that’s even how we describe things to friends when they ask what prompted our decision. We say, “I can’t explain. Something just told me to do it!” My hunch is that “this something” is us; our soul. And that, when we’re trusting and following our intuition, we are, in fact, listening to our Soul. The thought of being teamed up with the soul like this feels natural, but the mind immediately challenges the concept with questions like, “Wait a minute, if intuition is actually the soul communicating with us, why don’t I hear it more often? Why doesn’t it speak in more clear and concise ways? And what’s up with having to pray, meditate, and plead just to connect with our soul, especially during crucial times?”

43 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

Personally, I still find myself asking these questions when I’m frustrated or in my fear. But angst and faith are like oil and water, they each vibrate at such completely different levels that it’s impossible for them to co-exist for long. One of the two eventually gets pushed out, and more often than not, it’s faith. As you know, faith doesn’t exist unless you believe that it does (since the entire premise of faith is believing), so here we are standing at the corner of that good old Catch 22: You can’t have faith unless you believe there is faith to have, and you don’t believe there is faith to have unless you have faith. Feeling a deep belief in anything is what actually gives birth to it in our experience. This is especially true of Intuition, and of the soul. The more we believe that our soul communicates with us through intuition, the more aware we become of the soul’s presence, and find ourselves open to receiving messages more clearly. It’s not a matter of ‘tapping into’ this relationship with the soul, but about bringing this relationship into the forefront of our daily lives. Living through your intuition supports you in making decisions that are in your highest good, guiding you along the way like an internal lighthouse. When we ignore our intuition altogether, it’s as if we’re letting our mind talk us out of what we know to be true inside. We are resisting our inherent trust, which shifts us into the position of being a guest in our own home. So how do we begin living through intuition? We start by simply increasing our awareness of it using our feeling decoder; our body. By identifying the physical symptoms we experience in correlation to the emotions we’re feeling, we are learning to “hear” the messages of our soul through intuition. For example, if you’re in a situation that requires trust and your tummy feels funny, don’t just write if off as, “I have a stomach ache.” Take an extra moment to pause and use your feeling decoder (aka. your body) and notice if it’s a bellyache (which your previous experience may correlate to nervousness), butterflies (could be excitement) or sharp cramps (could be fear)—as each represents a different emotion in every individual,

44 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

giving everyone a custom-made message that corresponds to how their body and emotions intuitively interact. When you become familiar enough with how your physical symptoms relate to and telegraph your instinct, you can start living through your intuition, as if it were your personal doorway to inner guidance. Because it is. RoadMap to Living through your Intuition - Trust that intuition is innately part of who you are & that it exists to support you - Remember past experiences when you’ve followed your intuition & it’s served you - Review how your body felt during those past occasions - Correlate your body’s past responses with the outcome of those experiences - Loosely categorize those physical responses under two outcomes, “Yes” & “No” - Pause with presence around how your body feels during current pivotal moments - Refer to your mental categories to interpret a “Yes” or “No”

Each Firefighters situation and injuries are analyzed, strategically grouped together and a retreat agenda of services and events are organized. How it all started Firefighters Down was born from a Fire Department tragedy. The suicide death of our friend and brother Fire Captain Rick Mc Clung. Ricks death spoke for many Firefighters who have been negatively impacted from seeing emergency incidents ranging from murder, rape and gang violence to car crashes, suicides and domestic violence, day after day. I began researching the effects that exposure to daily traumatic events and combat injuries have on soldiers and the parallels to Firefighters was stunning. Like combat soldiers, Firefighters develop coping mechanisms to deal with heartbreaking traumatic rescues, such as infant deaths, drowning’s, rapes and murders. When the a firefighter is injured coping takes on a whole new level, which includes the effects on his or her family. These coping mechanisms can be unhealthy and must be dealt with professionally. Sacrifice and Appreciation Appreciation makes sense of self-sacrifice after an injury, depression is then replaced by dignity and a true healing process begins. We have aligned with local business who have committed to providing their service’s while our Firefighters and their families are in California. The list is vast, ranging from fishing trips, sunset dinners and horseback riding to massage and float therapy. With support from corporations, celebrities, the community and Firefighters from across the nation, the injured Firefighters will come to understand the positive value of their sacrifice. TRUST IN YOU FIND YOUR OWN AUTHORITY

THEN STEP INSIDE By Michael White Ryan

52 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

In today’s world, trust is everywhere in the form of mistrust. The most concentrated areas unfortunately are within the self. And yes, many of you may consider this statement entirely different, naturally due to the many variations within the human existence. And yet why is this even a possible consideration, well “knowledge is power”. The great masters said, go forth and collect knowledge by the buckets full! Therein all past hierarchical systems of classification, now remain in constant rebirth. At its broadest level, we the species remain within the categories of class, family, order. Wow, I bet you never considered hierarchy to be a reincarnation perspective. Now, this sub servant being, deserves a drum roll!!! Considering we are constantly regulated for our own good/ protection, the majority of us now become followers hanging onto our existing authority, members of the system, a programed society of social networks. We are so well kept, the gifts of gratitude pour forth from our hearts. Our identities running/standing lost in a quickening madness, have adapted to fit with filing into line, chest forward, into conned-censorship? Which identity, which you, is the question we need to be asking ourselves. Our hidden agendas for all we do, our multiverse of motives hidden behind every thought, behind every action, demands of us…an answer if we are ever to find any essence of what we call real.

53 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e May 2018

Energy is everything, in defining everything, when I express the word “yes” it has its own energy quality. When I repeat the word “yes” the second time, it now carries a different energy quality. Every thought, action, bee, rock, has its own individual energy quality, as do you and I. Creative thinkers are stepping from the so-called “thinking-box” into new paradigms of how to better serve the world and mankind. I am constantly amazed at how stepping outside, is nothing more than standing in the opposite corner of the exact same “thinking-box”. How easy to possibly think he/she is now outside, having escaped into realms of creative genius, standing in one’s egoic statue, un-mindful of one’s creative consequences!!! Computers are now designed to function as we do, function as if human. Please, oh please think of all thoughts ideas actions as singular, individual, separate forms of energy. This will allow clarity into the depths of how humans function in relationship with one’s ever-expanding universe. Is this it, no, It’s a small jump start. In 2017 the fire cleaned the mindset head and brought everything forward, that which needed to no longer exist in our being. 2018 dawned with new earthly foundations, giving birth to expressive creations presently waiting to escape your mindset. Fortunes abound, opportunities constantly appear, with open heart we can hear their telling of things, which only the breath of trust can bring into living existence! Natures most balanced wildly crafted creation is you, and as balance is the formula of all existence, and yes this may not appear visible, but you and I contain a portion of that which exists on the other side of railway tracks. What we choose, how we portray our beingness is yours and yours alone. A conscious choice in freedom may possibility end in one of separation, while the opposite will be, thus remaining one’s connection with the masses, one of choosing subservience. Due to the creative talents within the social networks, conforming has given us connections, never before in existence. As the system continues to grow, the natural laws of balance also apply.

ator me! Question, what influences created our current stagnation? As a forgotten soul, we traverse alone, down, along the endless roads of life’s uncertain highways. Traveling, directed by who/what into new or repeated experiences within “the all that is”. Constant repetition in experiences of times lost, cycles of energetic reminders creations of confusion, anxiety, uncertainty, expectation, assumptions of never ending realities building domains within mindset prisons of…I believe. The universe and the “I am” existing as one, congratulations. Is it connection we seek or is it separation? Understanding crawls, breaks the shell, as it scratches its way out, beyond the confines of knowledge. Thus, bringing us close-up to the present moment. To be in tune with self. Awareness allows us to go beyond knowledge and listen/see/smell what the universe is granting, is communicating to us, the i, 24/7. Stop, risk is fear, Trust is motion, feeding the evolving self-consciousness onwards into starry nights, into deep oceans of understandings, upon mountains of idealistic notions that we are worthy and beyond being creation!!! Blessings to one and all

Message from the Goddess Mother

By Jan Diana

with JAN DIANA

THE WISDOM OF HAPPINESS My Beloved Children of Heart, “Greetings of joy! Happiness is our focus on this glorious day. What does it mean to you to be happy? Ponder on this for a moment and notice what comes to mind. Perhaps you feel happy when you are spending time with a specific friend or family member. Maybe thoughts of tasting your favorite cake come to mind or perhaps something you love to do such as dancing, playing a sport or traveling to a distant land. What if there was a way where you could feel and experience happiness more often? What if you could experience it all of the time? Wouldn’t that be so delightful! Many times you have experienced some happiness. I know that many thoughts came to your mind when I asked you to ponder. I am sure you would enjoy feeling and experiencing happiness more often and perhaps even have it as a way of living. Imagine that, living in happiness all of the time. Perhaps you might think that just isn’t possible, that you live in the real world and nobody is happy all of the time.

56 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

Let us think about this for a moment. What if it was truly possible to be happy as a constant? What do you think your life would look like if you were? Would you be free of all of the cares and concerns that you are experiencing? Would life seem easier, allowing you to feel as if a heavy load was taken off your back? Let me share with you a story. There once was a great Master, She was very wise and had enjoyed learning new knowledge. In fact it was a passion for her to study, learn and express wisdom and knowledge. She had spent most of her life with this passion. Every time she learned something new, she felt her heart expand. It was

as if she filled herself up with wisdom and then there was room for even more! It was magical! There was always more to learn. It was a constant and became a wonderful process of discovery, of learning and growing in wisdom. With each success on reaching and acquiring more wisdom came the great joy of achievement. Her countenance was always wearing a smile because she felt fulfilled. Yet she was always in the process of filling herself up even more. There was a time in her early life when she felt lonely and sad. She had felt like all she ever did was work hard and struggle. 57 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

Then one day she had a great awakening. She was busy engaged in her work. It was a beautiful day. She could hear the birds singing and felt the gentle warmth of the sun shining upon her. As she focused on the beauty of the moment, she felt a thought, almost like a little love whisper say to her, “what a beautiful day. Isn’t life wonderful!” As she felt that thought blossom into another and another, she realized she felt happy. Wow, she didn’t realize this beauty was here all along. She had been too busy working and living life and just hadn’t noticed the richness of the beauty around her. It was as if a window opened up for her. She saw and heard what was the true reality around her. This was a beginning of many new moments of greater awareness. Soon she began to seek out greater wisdom and understanding for as she became more aware, she experienced even more happiness. She recognized the gifts that life offered and began to consciously choose what she desired to experience. The freedom to choose fulfillment and happiness fueled her passion and she created the most exquisite dream life. Each of you are like this great master. You have forgotten perhaps for a while the beauty of life. Maybe you have felt you didn’t have anything to be happy about. The window is opening for you to see and know happiness as a reality. It is only for you to choose. Take a look through that glorious window and see what is real. Open to new possibilities, new potentials presenting for you. Allow yourself to see the bigger vision. Take your life journey in the direction of greater joy and happiness. Let yourself feel the lightness of heart, the lightness of the journey. Choosing happiness is choosing wisdom. Choosing wisdom is choosing love. Choosing love is remembering your divine nature, your true self. Let yourself be as the great master, allowing the lightness to shine into your heart. Gaze through that glorious window and see the greater vision. You can create a life of happiness just as that great Master did. Indeed the truth is that you are all great masters in the process of remembering the truth of yourself. 58 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

May your journey be filled with great vision, great passion and great happiness. I hold the vision with you for your dreams to unfold, to reach the desires of your heart, that place of remembering. Shamon.” With great love, Your Beloved Mothe

The gifts of a luminous darkness

60 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

Pain that brings darkness, is a part of life and the challenge is to find a way to break through it. The wisdom speaks in embracing the pain and then letting it go, in clasping it and then releasing it. So, we learn from the pain, maybe it had a lesson to teach, a lesson that can leave you with some trail of light, so you never follow your past mistakes any more. You learn from them and pave a pathway where your wisdom can guide you and your choices. It fills you with gratitude and that in turn takes you to a higher awareness, a more enlightened consciousness. Your past taught you something. So, you carry this wisdom within you, with you, so it can shape you into someone who can make enlightened choices in the moments ahead. Instead of weeping over the closed doors, if we can rejoice and listen to the whispers of the welcoming breeze, then there will be a colossal outburst of sunshine in everything that you see. You will learn how to pause, take a deep breath in moments of doubt and hesitation, and with that pause, the anger subsides, and love resides, time and time again. This is the way you nourish so you can flourish, as in this flourishing lies your blossoming, the blossoming that can make you learn the art of living life. So, you learn to live that spark again, to kill that sadness again with the light of your own sanctuary. And, your life becomes the thoughts that you breathe and the words that you pen on the pages of your book. So, you live through your creations that are meant to live forever. It is always darkest at night, before the dawn, yet the light lives somehow, to make us walk through with the light of compassion, as this light travels from one soul to another. You take the night and turn it into a dawn of your life, you take weeping darkness and turn it to a light, a light that will shine within you and can show you the path and be an exemplary light for others.

61 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

This is the light that nobody can take out of your soul, something that nobody can steal, something that no one will lose amidst the meandering pathway of life. For in this light, lies the depth of life. It is this light, the light that shows the seeds of compassion and loving-kindness, that will set your soul on fire again in the battered weathers of life, that will call you to live again, that you get to see and live life for real again. This is the light that shapes you, molds you and carves your very heart and evolves you every moment. This light will take you to the treasures of life, the treasure that help you to make a life string of shared feelings with all the kindred souls, a sharing that somehow takes you back to the connection that we once thought, was lost but suddenly find it gleaming again. The real beauty of life is never really seen, but it is discovered. It is in exploring all the moments, so soothing amidst its roughness, so serene amidst its chaos. That is the beauty that needs you to go deep into an exploration of a luminous darkness. The art of living lies in how high you can rise again, when you hit the bottom. This is the art that whispers words of wisdom to your ears, in the silence of your struggles, in the depths of your soul, when you are fighting yourself, time and time again, over and over again, turning ever page of your book, to see if anything is still left to be worded, if any unfinished things are still waiting to be penned down, it is then in search of this truth, that you wander from heart to heart, from soul to soul in this web of life, in search of this missing peace, the peace that will clasp all the broken pieces together. It is your search for meaning, the meaning of life, and in this very search do you realize, do you glimpse the lost light of compassion that seems so very forgotten in this world that has gone so insane with pain. But to be able to see the light again, you need to stand in the lighted place, where the light is shining bright, so it can light you back again in the bliss of your own soul. This is the pathway, the roadway to the rising happiness in you again. This is how you will see the astonishing beauty of your own being again, in the amazement of its astonishments, will you find your own light again, will your own spark again, that was once seeded in you at the time of your birth. At times, when your own has gone out, you stand in someone else’s luminosity, so other souls can pull you into their light, so other hearts can commune with you by means of a wordless communication that which silently

62 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

flows from them to you, and in this communion will you find your astonishing light again. This is the light that will burst you open in to a new galaxy within you, so you can see the colossal outburst of a universe, all along waiting within you. This is the light of faith that will split you open, and this light can only be glimpsed as you see others in the light of compassion. The light that brings back wonders again shines both ways. It emerges from the interconnection between you and others in this entangled web of humanity. Pure compassion that flows from this conscious, infinite being of light from the lighted galaxies in other souls to lead you back to the galaxy in your soul. It is the marvel in creation, the most timeless marvel, that you see and feel only in times of sinking sadness, so you can find your way home again to your own gleaming galaxy inside your soul.

Fearless Friendships By Katherine Jegede

New Thought philosophies can be applied to any situation in life and I encourage you to explore this concept as creatively as you can. One way in which I like to use the power of positive thought is in the area of relationships. Whether your relationships are as wonderful as you wish them to be or you feel that there is room for improvement, using metaphysical methods to manage and sustain themes is as rewarding as is it empowering. I revisited this idea back in September 2017 during a short period of emotional turmoil. A friendship with someone I admire greatly had come under strain and I was worried about not being able to make things right between us again. As you may be aware, I interpret and write about the teachings of Neville Goddard because I have proven them time and time again and so turning to my work for a solution to this problem was completely natural. I wanted a strategy that I was confident would be able to repair an ailing relationship. I used an exercise from my book Infinite Possibility which guides the reader in mentally communicating with others. This has nothing to do with manipulation of any sort, and it isn’t a trick, it is about controlling the direction of one’s own attention for a specified purpose. If you are able to accept that our thoughts and moods are causative, then this technique should feel like something you are willing to try. Whatever your position the important thing here is an internal commitment to the health of your relationship, holding in mind the image, and in heart the feeling, that the relationship is as you want it to be. intriguingly, while you wait for things to unfold outwardly, you do nothing, you take no deliberate physical action to help things along. Any necessary action is inspired and will be undertaken by you without consideration as to what the outcome might be.

I spent a few days focussed on the repair of my friendship, not willing it to be so but allowing myself to accept that it was so and as expected, all was well once again between my friend and me. You’d be forgiven for thinking that situations like these have a way of simply working themselves out but that simply isn’t the case. There is no physical event that does not have a spiritual origin. Recalling this episode in a blog post for harvbishop. com I wrote: “I took no outward action. I didn’t attempt to smooth things over. I just replaced my anxious mood with a harmonious one and accepted with certainty that the relationship I cherished was better than it had ever been. A few days were all it took to confirm the change in my mood. The friendship that I was willing to give up on became stable, loving and mutually supportive. Without going into detail, I found a closeness and a trust that was stronger than before. This event led me to think about the different ways in which this concept could be practically applied.” I’d like to end by repeating the question I asked in the blog post. Could one, by cultivating a feeling of certainty, guarantee specific outcomes in their lives? In this case, could you cultivate a mood of loving mutual benefit and have that mood express itself in the form of a loving and mutually beneficial relationship? These questions deserve, an answer. You deserve to know. You have the power and the absolute right to test this theory and I hope that you take up the challenge. And you won’t find me judging if you feel sceptical. I find scepticism healthy as long as it doesn’t shut down enquiry or objectivity. Neville Goddard himself often spoke of the perfect reasonableness of unbelief. Faith, he once wrote results from theories proven by the testing coupled with successful outcomes rather than taking things at face value. Just think, these methods are available to you right now, needing nothing more than experimentation to yield their abundant riches to you. They are free, they make no demand of you, they don’t ask you to give up who you are or what you do for a living. They only ask that

66 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

you dedicate a few moments of your time to work with them and watch them – in turn – work for you. If you could have the relationships you have always dreamed of by doing nothing more than controlling your moods relative to them, wouldn’t you take the chance? I sincerely hope that you do.

After completing her studies, Kate moved to Switzerland to work at the World Health Organization, developing educational resources for rural communities in Sub-Saharan African. In addition to her academic science career, Kate has worked with the BBC Science Unit and BBC Radio Oxford, and served as news editor of the international journal Africa Health, for whom she has conducted research trips, helping set up a learning resources and study center at one of Nigeria's forefront teaching hospitals. A Mini Movies Series comes to Cannes What would you do for "Fifteen Seconds Fame"? It’s one of five of the ‘A Mini Movie’ series presenting a satirical look at the social media age of Hollywood

Gloria Kisel, socialite, humanitarian, philanthropist, actor, director, producer and writer, has managed all of this while being a loving and devoted mom and living in many places around the world from New York to various cities in Europe, to Palm Beach and Los Angeles. In Palm Beach she has produced, directed and hosted a television show, “Palm Beach Now With Gloria Holis” since 1999. The show is beneficial to various charities and to the environment. Her main areas of focus are building shelters for battered and abused children with HIV, global warming and world hunger. She is heavily involved in stopping cruelty to helpless animals. Gloria has coined the phrase “Legion of Angels” and plans on opening a shelter for children and animals.

Suzan Hughes: As a dedicated philanthropist and an educator, Suzan Hughes has used her career and connections in the entertainment industry to further the causes that are near and dear to her heart and improve the lives of children worldwide. As a lifelong advocate for children and health, Suzan Hughes is embarking on her new mission–“The Suzan Hughes Education Foundation” (S.H.E.). As the creator of Rollermax ® and fitness exercise series “Take 10 To a Better You” as well as co-founder of the Herbalife Family Foundation, Suzan Hughes is a tireless force of nature on the big screen and stage.

She has bridged acting, social media, publicity, charity, filmmaking and producing, and she has become a Hollywood curator for the arts. She has hosted and produced over 1000 news shows, 52 cooking specials, 400+ travel shows, and 500+ entertainment headlines of the day. She has helped co-create a type of art cinema called e Slide and has worked in VR and 3D. Each of them were official selections for Animation Day in Cannes and screened to a near capacity audience at the Palais on May 15, 2018 in Cannes, France. If you were to take a satirical look at society, in today’s social media age of Hollywood how would you portray fame, dogs, love, confusion or life? A Mini Movies series showcases society and how we look at these various topics in looking glass snippets. Fifteen Seconds Fame begins with the infamous Oscar thief and includes notables such as cult legend Ron Jeremy, reality tv star Farrah Abraham, Milli Vanelli’s Fabrice Morvan, iconic crooner Cynthia Basinet and one of the most sought after celebrity stylists Marcello Costa. Warhol was famous for his 15 minutes of fame, but in today’s lightning pace short attention span, ‘Fifteen Seconds Fame’ highlights celebrity phenomenon and publicity. My Dog Expressions is all about dogs, almost. It highlights their expressions and how we interact and treasure pets

that are often considered part of our family, socialite/actress/filmmaker Gloria Kisel-Holis with her Marilyn Monroe, Montebubbles getting spiritual and contemporary artist Danny Minnick. A picture may be worth 1000 words but love can be so much more. Love Doubled portrays love featuring Jeff Dowd, the original dude that “The Big Lebowski” movie was based upon, filmmaker and philanthropist Suzan Hughes, comedian and supermodel mom Eugenia Kuzmina and Polo socialite photographer Greg Ratner. Yes No Yin Yang shares the confusion of communication with the simplest words yes or no and features actress and voiceover artist Dina Morrone, Valentino muse and Ford supermodel Margaret Luce, director and action actor Patrick Kilpatrick, filmmaker and actress Joyce Chow and comedian Corey Allen Kotler. Sequel of Life remembrances, future and interpretation features actor Matthew Knowles from China’s $100 million movie “Asura” releasing Summer 2018, Italian designer and philanthropist Anna Rita Nunnari Dell’atte and celebrity photographer and filmmaker Clinton H. Michelle Alexandria of Glass House Distribution and Washington Life Magazine’s John Arundale, Global Glam Magazine’s Christine Philip, John Savage, Blanca Blanco. Miss Universe Great Britain finalist Roopa Kukadia and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger. A Mini Movie series was created by industry veteran William Hoehne with Joyce Chow as a collaborative parody of Hollywood for up and coming and veteran actors as a platform to showcase their talent for the broader creative community. Joyce Chow and Gloria Kisel have continued the series collaborating with Suzan Hughes as executive producers for their next sequels. Gloria Kisel-Holis and Joyce Chow are also directing, producing and acting in A Mini Movie series. Dina Morrone and Clinton H Wallace are consulting producers. A Mini Movie series may have started as a parody, but in the world of social media it highlights current culture. Cannes has opened up possibilities for the A Mini Movie series. Any social media whether it is live, or working with pictures to tell good stories, it’s all important because she believes that it’s still true that a picture tells more than 1000 words. She also feels networking involves active recommendation management at both personnel and project level. A well-formulated recommendation opens the door and is increasingly regarded as a reference for a sus72 THEEDENMAGAZINE.COM e June 2018

tainable business relationship. In these fast-moving times, an insider tip is worth its weight in gold. This past March 2018, Arens had the privilege of attending the Elton John Oscar Party in Los Angeles. She met Sir Elton John and had the opportunity of briefly speaking with him. He encouraged her to pursue her dream as an international keynote speaker. Arens says, “I like to connect People and I love creativity. I really enjoy working with people. My passion is my work which I always carry out with full commitment. My trio of success is, Networking talent, brain-compatible communication, and creativity paired with wit, charm and stamina.” Arens went on to say: As a Master of "cognitive neuroscience” (modern brain research), the attraction lies in the combination of knowledge, the size of the topic and its practical implementation

In my opinion, this knowledge and the practical derivations associated with it for the economy, business or the private individual, is the basis for a successful future. More and more companies recognize this as their new chance for measurably more success, turnover and quality of life - Empower branding at its best. On the one hand, we rely on the knowledge of modern neuromarketing, on how people think, feel, act, how they decide and how they are motivated. On the other hand, we know from stress medicine that communication is one of the biggest stress factors, for me "the" biggest stress factor. Emotion theory shows us how emotions are built, how they control us, how they control our decisions. Neurocommunication deals with the power and strength of words, phrases, beliefs, proverbs, their associations and the associated and upcoming emotions. Since our emotional worlds control human body reactions and bodily functions, it has been proven today that language has a great influence on our health. If you use brain-friendly, positive language, it has a high degree of preventive health-promoting effect. Language and emotion are therefore the decisive factors for a productive economy, flourishing markets, excellent networking, successful management, above-average sales results and the best quality of life. This is a high standard that is only reflected in the new, holistic, modern communication concepts that are scientifically founded and proven. With 100% identical markets, identical products and identical education, there are people who are 150%, even 200% more successful than others. I feel that the decisive thing here is: How do these people differ from others and what can we learn from them? What unites successful people is the fact that they are passionate about what they do. They talk less, they act more. You're persistent on this. They regard cancellations or lows as a new opportunity on their path to success. They learn from mistakes, because for them success consists of 4 letters: D-O-I-T. Another feature is a high degree of authenticity, a good portion of charisma and interesting stories based on good communication and pictures. And above all else, these people can emotionalize through brain-fair communication and thus excite and inspire people. Bill Clinton once said that those who master the game of emotions are among the winners of the future. A very important point of communication is when considering brain-fair communication it is necessary to develop a new sensitivity for language. Every word triggers a picture in our subconscious and every picture is marked with

an emotion. One word can bring us peace or start a war. One word can unleash in us joy and love or stir up sorrows, fears and concerns. This is accompanied by the learned body language, body reaction, sentence structure, thinking and the resulting motivation. What is new for many is the fact that our brain is a social organ, that it loves trust and likes to cooperate with others. Moreover, it is very sensitive to injustice and dishonesty. Another important new point is that communication is a dual process. In every dialogue I talk to myself on the one hand and to my counterpart on the other. My voice quality, my choice of words now determines how I feel emotionally. If I choose my words carefully, I create positive associations within myself and my counterpart. So it's up to me whether I mix or create a lucky cocktail or a frustrating cocktail from the emotional point of view. Communication is complex and has a lot to do with modern energetics. Every word is energy, a sound wave. This sound wave is either positively or negatively charged. There is less of a neutral state. According to the physical laws of resonance and attraction, energy fields build up that control our lives. On the basis of this knowledge it becomes clear that the use of brain-fair communication brings positive consequences, for oneself as well as for the interlocutor. Positive words are positive sound waves/energy and therefore I charge myself positively, which can result in a positive intrinsic motivation. My interlocutor is similar. If positive feelings are created in his/her subconscious, his/her willingness to listen to me increases, my attractiveness for him/her as well as my attraction and persuasiveness increases. A mega successful speech consists of exciting, varied, inspir- ing contents in combination with meaningful practical examples, many tips suitable for everyday use and high sustainability, which inspire you to act. This program makes dreams come true, you can achieve your goals, both professional and personal, and you get more quality of life, more vitality, more motivation and better health. This applies to all people and companies for whom good voice quality is part of a future-oriented, and modern corporate culture. If you want to make more out of your life, this is the most important of all steps, as it motivates you from the inside to make your dreams come true. This is is how I would like to reach people and companies.
