THIRD BATCH RELIEF DISTRIBUTION IN SEVEN VILLAGES The third batch of relief distribution was successfully undertaken by PASALI with funding assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 12 office and the Dutch Consortium for Migrant Organizations (DCMO) for food items and the Islamic Relief Netherlands (IRN) for the non-food items. The nonfood relief was distributed last July 26-26, 2011 to five affected villages. The conflict lasted for 2,5 months and families slowly began returning to their homes. PASALI listed a total of 1,927 families in evacuation centers during the second relief. On the two-day (July 25-26) operation of the third batch of relief distribution, PASALI distributed relief goods to the 1,895 families of seven war affected villages in Northern Palimbang, namely: Kiponget, Namat, Kisek, Kidayan, Batangbaglas, Maganao and Malatunol, including the 203 families from Kiponget and Namat who fled to neighboring municipality of Kalamansig. Especially the latter had not received any form of assistance since the conflict began and families fled. PASALI brought relief directly to each barangay where refugee families were listed (except Kiponget since armed troupes were still present in the area). Those IDPs listed and identified having left and abandoned their houses for more than a month had received both food and non food items while other two villages (Maganao & Malatunol) received purely food items. The success of relief distribution was done in coordination with the Palimbang Local Government Units (LGU) and with the active participation of leaders and volunteers in the seven villages. The LGU sent three representatives including Regional Mobile Group of Police for security during the second day. They also provided two dump trucks for the transportation of goods and volunteers on two days relief from Kanipaan (Center) to Northern Palimbang. On one hand, The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD XII) of Region 12 also donated 1000 family packs of food items. Challenges Met During Relief Distribution During the second day of relief distribution, armed fighting in Kiponget took place, again, most of the resident left their home again. Hence, the distribution was made a week after the armed skirmishes halted. The road networks are rough with rains and flooded rivers which the staff and members of the distribution team encountered. The distribution team usually went home late at seven evening. Despite these, the staff and the rest of the distributing team were happy for they contributed in serving the needy people that suffered from conflict. FRONT PAGE PICTURE: Villagers from Kisek receive their food packs from above the dump truck.

IDPs (Evacuees) Received Goods Table below shows the villages, the number of IDPs listed, the number of those who received goods/items (food items and others food and non foods items), these were packaged combining different kitchen utensils and distributed according to the needs of the IDPs and the corresponding damages of the armed conflict to their respective houses. The IDPs received both food items from DSWD and PASALI.
