MARY GO BACHELOR OF DESIGN (ARCHITECTURE) WITH HONOURS
MARY GO | SUMMARY My professional aspirations centralise the development of sustainable and ethical social issues through the practice of Architectural design and articulation. I have always been a ďŹ rm supporter of humanitarianism, social justice and fair sustainability in social, economical and environmental aspects. I believe to meet big aspirations, is to start locally and develop positive relationships with immediate people, places and communities. I believe that making positive actions in everday contexts and surroundings is fundamental to shaping wholesome and longterm beneďŹ ts.

CONCORD OF ACTION
AUTODESK REVIT
Mixed Use / Government / Public / Gallery / Library
The client has requested for an architecutral intervention to reinvigorate the true meaning of democracy back into Brisbane city. Utilising the client’s grandfather’s invention of glass systems, the new symbol should represent transparency, openness, power and rejuvenation. It shall be a place of free speech, expression, public use and must meet the urban requirements of its surroundings. (e.g. Botanical Gardens, QUT, Queens Warf and One William)
PHOTOSHOP
GLAZED DOME As per the client’s brief, a glazed dome has been designed to integrate and unify multiple spaces within the Concord of Action. Entering through the first level, the auditorium, which is mainly used for cross discussion forums and workshops, the space has views of the upper level and the sky. The upper level, which is utilised by users of the library can peer down, whilst maintaining audio barriers by the sound insulated glazing. This transparency symbolises the honesty and expression of ideas and democracy. AUTODESK REVIT
ENTRANCE/WATER CASCADE The client’s brief highlighted a grand cascade to be included in the schematic of design. This requirement of the brief has been utilised as an exterior welcoming pendant. Situated in the middle of the given site and in the centre of the pedestrian thoroughfare, the cascade symbolises the constant movement of change and action. Complementing the concept of the building, the cascade is a centre piece and reminder that political affairs are constant rhythms, but should remain and fundamentally be a pure and honest system for the betterment of the community. 3 [1] Physical Engagement with Botanical Gardens and connecting “breakaway” zones for the community. Engaging with activated tourists originating from the gardens and Eagle Street pier. Providinga tourism thoroughfare through the site to link Queens Warf and QUT. [2] Engaging QUT students with mediums of expression. (e.g. Utilising the podium for cultural, political or artistic expression, gallery spaces for creative installations which also have the option to be an expression of petition. [3] Providing “break-away” zones for coporate patrons of One William. (e.g. cafe, gallery spaces and landscape) Meeting rooms and auditorium can also be activated for use by patrons.
CONCORD OF ACTION
[4] Thoroughfare to QUT and Botanical Gardens is activated by tourists and residents of Queens Warf. Site provides use of cafe, laneway, gallery and landscape. Police Beat within proximity of visitors and residents of Queens Warf for safety during closing hours. [5] Mediating laneway activates residents and visitors of Heritage building by providing pedestrian access, seating and dining elements. [6] Auditorium, meeting spaces and landscape can provide administrative and event use by political patrons of The Parliament House.

CITIES IN THE SUN: RE-IMAGINING KUALA LUMPUR IN 2050 Mixed Use / Multi-Residential / Public / Infrastructure
Students were challenged to think about sustainability from the standpoint of ethical values and create a holistic proposition which re-images the city of the future and also consider a multi residential scale within the urban precint. This project requried students to comprehensively undertake various research in order to provide a sophisticated and considerate design. The research included themes of maintaining sustainability in 2050 and onwards, cultural and social backgrounds of Malaysian residents, customs and lifestyles revolving multi-residential living and integrating existing site elements to a new proposal.

MASTERPLAN OF HIJAU HABITATS
FLOOR PLAN OF TYPICAL LEVEL
Given such an immense site, one requirement of the assignment was to design a schematic of how the multi-residential, among other choice of multi-use elements, would reinvigorate the urban precinct of Kuala Lumpur. The main considerations of this masterplan was to draw connection between the local historic stores on the East to the mega mall on the West, provide a economical and sustainabilty light rail to navigate the site, provide walking trails and parks and to also incorporate housing with lifestyle.
The shape of the floor plate was designed to meet the climate conditions of Kuala Lumpur. Being a tropical and warm climate, conďŹ gurations of each unit were arranged to allow ventilation and breeze pass through whilst also utilising every second vacant space, or rooftop, as a grass or garden space. The central void on ground level is a gathering space with shopping and lifestyle tenancies. The enclosed space and pathway also provides a walking or running track.

REFURBISHMENT OF DESIGN STUDENT/STAFF LEVEL Education / Office / Study Zone / Integrated Technologies (Fire Protection, Hydraulics, HVAC, Electrical & FFE)
Students were challenged to understand the basic principles and detailed applications of building services and the Building Code of Australia for low-rise buildings. As part of a collaborated group, my task at hand was to construct detail and design drawings for a indoor green wall system and to provide a hydraulics and fire protection plan for an interior fit-out of a floor within a Class 5 building.

PEOPLE’S PLACE, MULLUMBIMBY Recreational / Public / Community / Public / Visitor’s Centre
Students were challenged to design a simple built environment to provide a small functional space for the community in Mullumbimby. The node was to allow people to engage with spontaneous and temporary activities in a publicly accessible location. The space it provides shall offer opportunities for anyone to do something creative, alone or together, and encourage others to join in and/or get involved.

PEOPLE’S PLACE, MULLUMBIMBY Recreational / Public / Community / Public / Visitor’s Centre
Students were asked to develop a building proposal based on previous design experiments and social investigations of Mullumbimby. Particular attention was paid to the geographical location, its exposure to surroundings and value as a public/civic building. Consideration was made to how people would utilise proposed spaces and how our architectural proposal would contribute to the wellbeing of local residents.

ARCHITECTURE IN THE CITY
CAPTURING THE CITY Analysis of Nha Trang culture | Short Film
The aim of this project was to provide an opportunity to apply, in real context, the theoretical knowledge presented in the learnings of analysing a foreign city. Students were asked to identity and enquire into one architectural element in an urban environment applying the main techniques and tools presented during the architecture analysis activities throughout the semester.
