a t s i t r A a l m o r A Message f Do you remember that little girl in school who was always drawing in instead of taking notes? You know who I’m talking about... the odd-ball who would only wear purple for a year because it was her favorite color! Or, maybe you recall the little kid who took time to describe the “gorgeous” spider webs in the trees- when their dubious friends would simply raise an eyebrow. Yes, I’m the purple lover. Today, I still see many of my interests translated into the person I am today. Many artists have inspired my style, since I have frequently visited modern and classical art museums throughout the Southeast. When I was 12, I visited my grandmother in Barcelona who sent me to Museo de Dali in Granollers, Spain. This was an eye-opening experience. Dali not only expressed himself with paintings, but also with jewelry, interior design, large sculptures, and videography (a true visionary.. and I think not-so-crazy). My first formal art classes started after-school at the Fine Arts Center and Greenville Art Museum in Greenville, SC. After exploring my artistic abilities over the years, I determined a passion for painting and drawing. Therefore, when I attended school at the University of SC, I declared a minor in 2D Art. I thought this choice would be much more beneficial than a minor degree in some antiquated classes such as Political Science or Advanced Economics. Where can I use THOSE in the real world? Why not balance a professional life with art, and be all the happier? As I have grown into the woman I am today, I still look back at my childhood and recognize my everincreasing curiosity with natural settings, bright colors, and symbology. Many times I find inspiration in my personal struggles which (I hope) most individuals can relate. Please take a moment to peruse my recent paintings over the next few pages. Each of my pieces vary in size, and I frequently will accept commissions based on personal request. I love to collaborate with other artists, and those with any opinions to offer. Thank you for your time looking over this portfolio, and please feel free to contact me at the information found below. Mary Kathryn “MK” Allen Marykallen7@gmail.com (864)313-7598
