Urban Transportation Complex | Guangzhou, China 2018.07 - 2019.07 Main Contribution: • Built detailed 3D models of the transfer hall, offices and apartments in Rhino and Grasshopper software, and contributed to the design process of roof of the transfer hall, entrance canopy structures and ground floor landscape • Conducted calculations and fine-tuned program areas to align with development indicators and requirements • Produced plans, sections, and diagrams based on seniors’ hand sketches including offices and underground parking, translating their concepts into visual representations • Assisted with preparing presentation documents shown to the clients, and collaborated with Shenzhen colleagues during the whole design process

With a total gross floor area of over 306,000 sq m (approximately 3.3 million sq ft), Nansha Qingsheng is the Group’s large-scale mixed-use development in Guangzhou developed in a public transport-oriented mode. The project will be developed in phases, with the first phase scheduled for completion in 2024. Its foundation work is nearing completion, and it will be developed in a transit-oriented mode to provide quality office and retail floor space. The project is seamlessly connected to Qing Sheng Station, which is an interchange station for high-speed rail and direct metro lines to downtown Guangzhou.

Hongqiao Hub Came into Use

3 Years after

Next Stage?

Distribution of Kernel Density of Service Industry Around Hongqiao Transport Hub Shanghai HSR-Economic Zone

During the recent building boom of China, unprecedented resources, human and inhuman, and capitals have been poured into this one of a kind construction movement. However, one wonders how much of it is merely extravaganza, since, suggested by various evidence and rushed by obvious capitalist motivations, rationality seemed to lose hold of what went on. For one, many media agencies have estimated that half of the apartment buildings in China today are empty. How much everything, if we may ask, is wasted just on that front? It seems then, in an analogical sense, our cities and buildings are in desperate need of reducing their weight or trimming their excessive fat. In this project, Shanghai's Hongqiao Railway Station, an obese and perhaps one of the most symbolic offspring of this phenomenon, are redesigned, and transformed into a imaginary hyperloop transportation hub with a purer form.

Can we afford to maintain the status much longer? We should welcome a much thorough, but quicker solution.

“T

But jams continue to plague the Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, which South China Morning Post’reports is packed with 30,000 people waiting on more than 50 train delays. Distribution of Cities in Original and Shrinking

After looking back upon the history of the public transportations of China and reviewing the current situation of Hongqiao Transportation Hub, we imagined what kinds of changes that new means of transportation, hyper-loop could bring to the site and connection among cities in the future. Therefore, we came up with The Concept of “City Wall”, representing a conceptual boundary of the past and future with a more elegant and purer appearance as a new urban gesture in Hongqiao District.

The Hongqiao hub was officially put into use in 2011. The total passenger flow has been in a relatively stable increase year by year, with an average annual growth rate of 4.41%. The main passenger flows are air passenger flow, railway passenger flow, long-distance passenger flow and passenger traffic within the city. It is expected that it will mainly bear the external traffic flow after its application, accounting for 32% of the total passenger flow. The capacity of one hyper-loop pipeline is 0.25 million passengers.

The project is a social housing located in the West District of Taichung City, Taiwan. Unlike the Central District and Xitun District, which are typical Taichung old town and new area respectively, the site is like a mixture of traditional Taiwan city and modern one. There are abundant public spaces and greenery around, with old streets, commercial buildings and art facilities as well. The concept starts from the effort to connect these important elements in the site together and make it a complex whole.

Nanshijie District - Research Area

Ganzhou is a medium-sized prefecture-level city in the south of Jiangxi territory, China, in a typical mountainous area. As a famous historical and cultural city, it has become a commercial and trade city on river valley plains with major traffic roads. Our site is located in Nanshijie District, which has started to develop into a commercial area since Ming Dynasty. However, since the rapid urbanization process and the development of the neighboring district, the area has been forgotten, and gradually lost its value. Residents living here are mainly retired elderly and low-income families. Dilapidated buildings increased the cost of transformation, and the building style of the eastern and western parts are not integrated. The design aims to re-organize the urban fabric according to the historical grids and to reconnect the lost link between different sides of the Ciyun Pagoda. The enclosure, which transforms the Pagoda into a hidden gem for the city and aims to be sacred, also aims to facilitate remote accessibility. The area with various levels due to its topographic structure is transformed into a seamless circulation flow, with smooth vertical connections from the lowest level to the highest level for the users.

09 / E Y E S O N YO U Community Pool House | Shaw Kei Wan, Hong Kong 2018.01-2018.04 | Individual Work | Instructor: Sebastian Law Located in Shaw Kei Wan, a traditional industrial area in Eastern Hong Kong, the project is a small scale community swimming pool in a sloping site with a large cliff at the back. Because of the sloping topography of the site, the basic concept is to make the building merge with the topography and serve as a connector of different levels, creating a continuous journey with visual connection with the pool for the neighbor residents. To maximize

the visual connection among residents, swimmers, community users and the landscape, multiple layers of glazing are used as main building envelope material for people to capture the view of the pool hall and the cliff behind. Outdoor ramps and stairs are introduced as circulation elements surrounding the main pool hall to connect different levels.
