Alhamdulil Allah is the best of the duaa and is also the first word of the first surah of the Qur'an. It brings the positive outlook in one's heart. I know I have a Rabb, He is taking care of me and for me to be protected by Allah Ar Rahman, I only need to be an obedient slave, living between shukr and sabr. This is not easy, unless Allah SWT makes it easy. Alhamdulil Allah is the state of gratitude, even in moments of difficulty, sabr to be effective needs shukr, as the situation could have been worse. So Alhamdulil Allah. It is an opening. Allah SWT will only give you the best and surely as you go further into surah Al Fatiha, the opening duaa, the best duaa, Alhamdulil Allah will result in you understanding of how much you are in need of your Rabb and ultimately leads you to tawheed. From this tawheed comes the realization that it is only Allah's help we should seek, and finally only He SWT can show us the straight path, the path of those whom He favored, so you are asking the path of the Prophets, Peace be upon all of them; you are asking the path of the true martyrs , the path of siddiqueen, the path of Saleheen. Subhanal Allah, ultimately you are asking the path of success in dunya and akhira. Surely in Surah Al Fatiha, you will find the answer to your doubts, concerns and sicknesses. Stick to it in word and action! And for sure, you will only be able to do so with the help of Allah SWT. Alhamdulil Allah Rabb Al Alameen. Wa salato was salamo ala Rasulil Allah.

Hamza (RA) was also known as the Lion of Allah and of His Messenger, for his bravery, courage and boldness. He was a great support and a source of protection for the Prophet (SAWS) and the Sahaba. When Abu Jahl saw Hamza (RA) amongst the Muslims, he realized that a fierce battle was inevitable between the Muslims and the Quraysh. Hamza (RA) was, of course, unable to prevent all the harm alone, but his conversion was the first source of attraction to many tribes to embrace Islam. The second source was conversion of Omar ibn Al Khattab (RA), after which people entered Allah's religion in crowds. When the Prophet (SAWS) started getting revelation and began preaching the 'new' religion , according to Quraysh, he (SAWS) met with a lot of opposition. Some of the companions were tortured and persecuted for adopting this religion. But we should always remember that Allah supports His religion in ways that we cannot imagine. Indeed, Allah's help is always near. One of the ways that Allah supported His religion, in those difficult times, was through the conversion of Hamza (RA) - the beloved uncle of the Prophet (SAWS). In the last issue we had discussed the unique relationship that Hamza (RA) and the Prophet (SAWS) had; how close they were and how much they loved each other.
Hamza (RA) dedicated his life to Allah and His religion after he became a Muslim. Hamza (RA) was instrumental in killing many of the prominent Quraysh leaders at the Battle of Badr. One of the fiercest enemies of Islam of that time, Hind along with others wanted him to be killed. So when battle of Uhud ensued after Badr, Hind bint Utbah appointed Wahshi, an Ethiopian slave who was excellent at spear throwing, to kill Hamza (RA). According to some scholars it was Jubair who made this promise to his slave (Wahshi) as his (Jubayr's) uncle had been killed in the Battle of Badr. Jafar ibn Amr and ʹUbaydullaah ibn ʹAdee Al‐ Khiyaar were in Hims, Syria once and they decided to meet Wahshi to ask and know from 3

mous for having killed Musaylimah (also know as Musaylimah al-Kadhdhaab meaning "Musaylimah The Liar.) Wahshi relates his story of conversion: “After the Battle of Uhud, I continued to live in Makkah for quite a long time until the Muslims conquered Makkah. I then ran away to Ta'if, but soon Islam reached that area as well. I heard that however grave the crime of a person might be, [Allah] forgave him. I, therefore,

When Hamza (RA) died, the Mushrikeen of Makkah were overjoyed. They sang and danced and celebrated this ‘victory’. The Messenger (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) said on the day of the battle of Uhud, “Who saw the killing of Hamza?” So a man who was by himself said, “I saw his killing.” He said, “Let’s go and show him to us.” So the Messenger (SAWS ) walked until he saw Hamza and 4
ibn ‘Uqbah narrated that Wahshi gouged the liver of Hamza and took it to Hind bint ‘Utbah and she tried to chew it however she was unable to. Ibn Katheer mentioned this narration in his ‘Al‐Bidaayah wal‐Nihaayah’ (4/43) without an isnaad, hence it is weak. Ibn Ishaaq narrated with a broken isnaad that Hind was the one who gouged the liver of Hamza. (Seerah Ibn Hishaam: 3/ 133). Hence, this narration is also weak. Therefore, there is nothing authentic that proves that Hind chewed or attempted to chew the liver of Hamza (ra). Verily Allah is with the patient ones.
This means if You were to leave me to myself, then I will only discover my faults and weaknesses in disposing my affairs, and I will fall into sin as I dispose my own affairs, subhan Allah. We cannot handle being on our own when facing difficulties in this life, we need Al Qawiy Al Aziz – The Most Strong – The All-Mighty And in many places in the Quran, Allah (swt) says: o

All of these are matters that will draw you closer to Allah (swt) if you know Who is Allah (swt).
•
In order to be able to live in this life, and not get disturbed or upset, or face mental or physical sicknesses, then you need to know Who is Allah (swt).
•
Now we hear night and day about psychological problems and even physical ailments that are linked to mental illnesses, and the reason is one: we think we’re going to face this life with our power and might! 7
•
•
We leave the house saying

So we are not supposed to face this life with our power, but we are supposed to face this life with our dependence on Allah (swt). This means O Rabb, by You we seek help, we can’t do anything on our own.

SAYED AL KHATEER - CATCHING THOUGHTS -1 Catching Thoughts ( )صيد الخاطرfrom a book by ibn Al Jawzi Thought ()الخاطرة: Reasons for some dua’as not being answered
I found one of the trials of a believer is that he makes dua’a and it is not answered. Keep in mind we are talking about a believer – not a disbeliever or someone doing haram. §
He continues to make dua’a and time passes, yet there are no traces of an answer, subhan Allah. o No matter how much belief we have, we are still humans and we can be weak. And ibn Jawzi found this to be a test. §
The person should know that it’s a trial and it needs patience. But why is it a test? Not because the response is being delayed, but.. §
Because the self is listening to the whispers of the shaitan of ‘why is it being delayed, why is it not being answered?’ §
And listening to the whispers of the shaitan is a sickness that needs to be remedied. §
I was in a situation and I made a desperate dua’a but there was no answer. §
So Iblees tried to plot and put me in his trap. §
Iblees (the shaitan) was saying to me: You know that Allah ( )س''بحان''ه و ت''عال''ىis vastly generous and He is never miserly, so what is the reason for the response being delayed? Notice how the shaitan enters through the doors of weakness, and because Ibn Jawzi is very knowledgeable about Allah (س ' ' ' ' ' 'ب'ح'ان ' ' ' ' ' ''ه و )تعالى, the whispers of the shaitan are different accordingly, subhan Allah.
9
§
So I said: Go away, I don’t need you to be my judge and I don’t accept you to be my trustee/advisor. Notice how ibn Jawzi can immediately detect it was from the whispers of the shaitan and not from the self/nafs, subhan Allah. §
He was saying to himself: Be careful and don’t listen to his whispers. §
Even if you cannot find a reason for the delay in response except that Allah ( )س'بحان'ه و ت'عال'ىhas decreed it to be delayed in order to test you, so that you may defeat the whispers of the shaitan, then this is sufficient as wisdom, subhan Allah. o We always want answers, and the shaitan is trying to make everything make sense to us in the beginning, subhan Allah. So when you stop him, then that is sufficient in wisdom for the response to be delayed in order to fight off the whispers of the shaitan. §
Then the shaitan asked me, ‘then why is it being delayed?’, subhan Allah. Then I gave him so many answers so that he does not put doubts in me. The shaitan wants us to disbelieve in Allah (س ' ' ' ' ' 'ب'ح'ان ' ' ' ' ' ''ه و )ت ' ''عال ' ''ىor to commit a sin or to decrease in faith. May Allah ( )س ' ''بحان ' ''ه و ت ' ''عال ' ''ىprotect us from the shaitan and give us the strength to deal with the shaitan. Ameen. Don’t make a peace treaty with the shaitan, you need to give answers to defeat him, and the answers should always be about Allah ()س''بحان''ه و ت''عال''ى. Because when you remember Allah ()سبحانه و تعالى, then this makes the shaitan smaller and smaller. §
First Answer: ()
I said: I know and you know that Allah ( )س ' ''بحان ' ''ه و ت ' ''عال ' ''ىis The Owner of Everything and He is The King, and The Owner can do whatever He wants in His dominion, He can give and withhold whatever and whenever He wants. So the shaitan did not object. It is confirmed that Allah ( )سبحانه و تعالىis affirming His wisdom. o
There is sharp evidence in the Quran about the wisdom of Allah ()
o
Maybe you see something as being beneficial for you, but it is not wise for you to have it. When Iblees did not prostrate to Adam (as), he did not see the wisdom behind it, rather he said, ‘why should I prostrate, I am better than him?’. Iblees disbelieved because he denied the wisdom of Allah ()س'بحان'ه و ت'عال'ى, subhan Allah. The entire universe is based on wisdom – when one leaf falls, there is wisdom behind –
10
when one leaf doesn’t fall, there is wisdom behind it – when the eyes blink, there is wisdom behind – when they don’t blink, there is wisdom behind it, subhan Allah. §
We look at things, thinking only about its benefit for us. Sometimes we think that our child should be guided, this is for our benefit, so we make dua’a and the shaitan says you’re making a good dua’a, but why is it not being answered? You need to know there is wisdom behind everything, maybe it would be not wise if he is guided now, maybe it is better if he is guided after some time, after going through some nurturing, etc. This whole life is like pieces of a puzzle – you cannot remove a piece and replace it with another, subhan Allah. Wisdom means everything is perfect and in its place.
§
Don’t think that I am asking for something good, but Allah ( )س ''بحان ''ه و ت ''عال ''ىis not answering, istaghfar Allah. For example, the story of Al Khidr in Surah Al Kahf – why did he make a hole, why did he kill the child, why did he fix the wall? – It looks like there is no benefit to it, but there is wisdom and you need to believe in the wisdom of Allah ()سبحانه و تعالى.
§
Third Answer: ()
When something is being delayed, then that is a benefit for me because had it been hastened, then it would have been bad. o For example, it would be bad for me if I got the money now, or have the child, or the property, etc. o Hadith: ( ق ''د دع ''وت رب ''ي ف ''لم: ي ''قول: ي ''ا ن ''بي اهلل ! وك ''يف يس ''تجعل ؟ ق ''ال: ق ''ال ''وا. ال ي ''زال ال ''عبد ب ''خير م ''ا ل ''م يس ''تعجل ( )يس' ' ' ''تجب ل' ' ' ''يThe slave will be in good as long as he does not hasten. They said: O Prophet of Allah! And how will he hasten? He ( )ﷺsaid: I supplicated to my Rabb and He does not respond to me.)
o
o
§
As long as you are making dua’a, and you are not being hasty – then you will be in good. Look at the opposite – it will be evil if you are hasty, subhan Allah. Anything you are restless and desperate about, you will get it, but you will be tested with it. There was someone who always made dua’a to be a millionaire, and always saying when, when, when? – he got it, and then he got sick and spent all his money for treatment until he died, subhan Allah. Take this as a rule of thumb, when you are hasty about something, you will get it and be tested with it. People say, when will I get the child, and they get it and they will be tested with it, or marriage, job, etc. And the problem is that when we are tested, it will affect the faith. So enjoy the moments when you are making dua’a to Allah ()سبحانه و تعالى.
Fourth Answer: ()
Maybe the reason the dua’a is not being answered is because of a problem in me. 11
o
Maybe there is something doubtful in your food. Notice he did not say haram, but doubtful, because he is referring to the believer. o Maybe your heart is heedless while you’re making the dua’a to Allah ()سبحانه و تعالى, subhan Allah. o
Or there is a sin that you have repented from, but you are not truthful in your repentance, subhan Allah. o The shaitan wants you to think bad about Allah ( )س ''بحان ''ه و ت ''عال ''ىand to think good about yourself. He wants you to associate with Allah ()س' ''بحان' ''ه و ت' ''عال' ''ى, to attach to others besides Allah ()سبحانه و تعالى.We need to think good about Allah ( )سبحانه و تعالىand bad about ourselves. §
Fifth Answer: ()
Maybe whatever I want will increase me in sins or if I get what I want, then it will delay me on my way to paradise, subhan Allah. o Allah ( )سبحانه و تعالىwants the best for us, He wants us to move forward, not backward. o
Allah ( )س ' ''بحان ' ''ه و ت ' ''عال ' ''ىdidn’t give you the money because He knows you will commit sin with that money, or if you get the position, it will make you arrogant. Or if you get it, then it will delay you on your way to Allah ()س'بحان'ه و ت'عال'ى. We never want our duniya to occupy us from the akhira. And it is a mercy from Allah ( )سبحانه و تعالىif He doesn’t give us.
§
Sixth Answer: ()
Maybe I didn’t get it so that I can stand in front of the door of Allah ()س ' ' ''بحان ' ' ''ه و ت ' ' ''عال ' ' ''ى, because if I get it then it will keep me busy from Allah ()سبحانه و تعالى. o
Suppose we get a blessing from Allah ( )س''بحان''ه و ت''عال''ىand it makes us forget about Him, this is so bad. Allah ( )س ' ''بحان ' ''ه و ت ' ''عال ' ''ىgives us blessings so that we can be closer to Him and ap-
§
preciate Him more, not to appreciate the blessing and forget about Him, istaghfar Allah.
Allah ( )س' ' ' ' ' ''بحان' ' ' ' ' ''ه و ت' ' ' ' ' ''عال' ' ' ' ' ''ىknows that the creation will be busy from Him if they get it. For example, He knows a person will be busy from Him if he gets the job, child, marriage, etc. That’s why throughout the blessing there is some pain so that you can be pushed to the door of Allah ()سبحانه و تعالى, subhan Allah. o

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Martyrs are those who die because of drowning, plague, an abdominal disease, or of being buried alive by a falling building." And then he added, "If the people knew the Reward for the Zuhr prayer in its early time, they would race for it. If they knew the reward for the 'Isha' and the Fajr prayers in congregation, they would join them even if they had to crawl. If they knew the reward for the first row, they would draw lots for. [Source:Ibn Kathir~ # 3:464] This Light, which HE has placed in the heart, love, faith and the remembrance of God. It is the light that He has sent down to His servants, by which He gives them life, and by which they walk among people. Its origin is in their hearts, but then HE strengthens and increases it until it appears upon their faces, limbs, bodies, even their clothes and dwellings. People of this nature perceive it~ while others deny it! On the Day of Judgement, however, it will come forth by their faith, and hasten before them in the darkness of the Bridge, that they might cross it. They will proceed in proportion to either its strength or its weakness in their hearts during their life in the world. Ishaq and Ya’qub. And it was not for us to associate
Major shirk, which results in the person being in the Fire forever, unless he repents. An example of this is, invoking someone instead of Allah سبحانه وتعالىwith fear and magnifying, which is only the right of Allah سبحانه و تعالى.
anything with Allah. That is from the favor of Allah upon us and upon the people but most of the people are not grateful. 12:38 Now Yusuf عليه السالمexplains the second part of the tes5mony :[ [ ] ] إالّ اهلل Yusuf عليه السالمappreciated the righteous members of his family, and expressed it in very simple words. The father of Yusuf عليه السالمis Ya'qub عليه السالم, but he men5ons the whole chain. Ibraheem عليه السالمis called أبو األنبياء, the father of the messengers. All the messengers aFer him came from his predecessors. He had two sons, Ismaeel and Ishaq عليهما السالم. Ishaq عليه السالمis men5oned here because Ismaeel عليه السالمis of a different branch, that of the Prophet Mohammad صلى اهلل عليه و سلم. Yusuf عليه السالمis poin5ng out to the young men things which are in his favor, so that they would trust his word even more; his forefathers were righteous messengers. These facts would encourage them to follow Yusuf عليه السالم. It does not suit these noble messengers to associate with Allah سبحانه وتعالىin even a 5ny thing. He uses the name[ [ ] ] اهلل, the greatest name of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the Unique and Perfect in aMributes. By saying [ [ ] ] من شيء, he is nega5ng any kind of shirk from himself and his forefathers. There are two kinds of shirk :
: الشرك األصغر Minor shirk, which results in nullifying the deed in which there is shirk. The best example of is الرياء, doing a worship to show off and get praise. For instance, you are praying, and the thought comes to your mind that if only someone would see you and praise you. This thought must be rejected immediately, because even if you don't get the praise, that prayer is nullified, not acceptable to Allah سبحانه وتعالى. Empty your heart of all other feelings while doing a worship, think you are doing it only for the pleasure of Allah سبحانه وتعالى. To be a slave of Allah سبحانه وتعالىis to live your life only for His sake. This is a struggle, because human beings are by nature aMracted to the tangible, and are hasty, whereas the reward of Allah سبحانه وتعالىis abstract in this life, and can only be seen aFer death, on the Day of Judgement. Enthusiasm or حماسis not durable for good deeds, because it dwindles, and it is really for yourself. Durability comes with living life for the sake of Allah سبحانه وتعالى. Ask Allah سبحانه وتعالىfor guidance, be with people in life as if you are alone with Allah ;سبحانه وتعالى this is اإلحسان, or righteousness. When you are in a group of people, and one of them is a higher rank than the others, everyone wants to please him. Think of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the Owner of the whole universe and more, there is no one higher than Him, don't you want to please Him? 25
When you do something for people, all they can give you is thanks, or a giF; some5mes not even that. But when you do even a liMle thing for Allah سبحانه وتعالى, He appreciates it, and the reward is everlas5ng. Everyone upon the earth will perish, And there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor. 55:26-27 This is from the bounty of Allah سبحانه وتعالىupon Ibrahim, Ishaq, Ya'qub عليهم السالم, and Yusuf عليه السالمhimself. When you are on the path of guidance, this is a favor from Allah سبحانه وتعالى, not because you deserve it. The messengers have that honor because of the favor of Allah سبحانه وتعالى. When you do good deeds, this is a favor from Allah سبحانه وتعالى, and needs a lot of gra5tude. Allah سبحانه وتعالىbestows His favor upon people according to their truthfulness. Those who ask Him for Paradise truthfully, will be guided by Him. When Allah سبحانه وتعالىopens the gates of good for you, this is His favor upon you. Do not lose the reason for doing good along the way, do it only for the sake of Allah سبحانه وتعالى. Yusuf عليه السالمsaid this last part of his speech to soFen the hearts of the two young men. Criminals must be made to feel that they are also acceptable. The hearts of prisoners can easily be soFened because of their situa5on. Some5mes sins can serve to make you humble, because you regret them, and repent. This raises you in ranks. The sinner who repents is beMer than a person who is always pious. When Adam عليه السالمsinned by disobeying Allah سبحانه وتعالى, and going to the forbidden tree, he regreMed it, and repented; as a result, his posi5on with Allah سبحانه وتعالىbecame beMer than before. Don't ever underes5mate anyone, and don't be arrogant when you do good deeds.
All the sons of Adam are sinners, but the best of sin ners are those who repent often. If you do a small deed, appreciate it and thank Allah سبحانه وتعالى, He will open the doors of abundance for you. Always remain posi5ve, this gives you energy, and pulls you up, whereas nega5vity depresses you, sapping your energy. Remember whatever happens is for the good. O [my] two companions of prison, are separate lords bet ter or Allah , the One, the Prevailing? 12:39 Now Yusuf عليه السالمchanged his approach, soFening it, by calling his fellow prisoners his companions. These two youths were already cast away and disturbed, their hearts could be easily soFened, for them to absorb the message of Allah سبحانه وتعالى. The choice of words shows his gentleness and humbleness. Yusuf عليه السالم wanted to win their hearts, and draw them closer to him. Yusuf عليه السالمgave them a parable instead of telling them directly about Allah سبحانه وتعالى. This would make them think and judge themselves. He wanted to raise ques5ons in their minds. This is an effec5ve form of da'wah, which must be done with wisdom. It is made in different ways according to the people involved. They must not be made to feel that they are wrong and you are right; instead, give them an equa5on to let them judge. These two boys were servants, so their masters were important for them. They had changed many masters over 5me. So Yusuf عليه السالمdecided to use this point to give them a parable which would make sense to them. The 26
servant obeys his master; all masters have different requirements. In return of them serving them, the masters take care of the needs of the servants. The servant must adjust himself according to the master.
the One who is attached to with love and magnifying
The concern of these boys was to serve their various masters, and make them happy, relying on them to take care of the needs of the servants. In jail, there were no masters, so they had 5me to reflect. Their masters were weak and unable to take care of them. Furthermore, different masters wanted different services, which was confusing. Yusuf عليه السالمused this circumstances in their lives to ask them whether they preferred different masters, each ordering them different things, ending up with confusing them as to what to do, or One Allah سبحانه وتعالى, who specifies what He wants from you, leading to clarity in life. Allah سبحانه وتعالىalso takes care of all His slaves, providing for all their needs.
Allah سبحانه وتعالىis the Provider of love, compassion, kindness, wisdom. The heart is drawn to Him.
The One. He is Unique, no one resembles Him. He is the One in all His names, all of which are beau tiful. Even if people call themselves by some name of Allah, it is only a name for them, without the attrib
utes. Allah is the Most High.
The greatest name. No one else can call themselves by this name. Allah سبحانه وتعالىhas forbidden the minds to choose this name for anyone. This name is specially for Him.
Allah is Unique. He is the Only One with His attrib utes; His face, hands, shin, laugh, eyes, all are unique, not resembling any of His creation.
He is the One who is worshipped, and the One who is attached to with love and magnifying.
This is اهلل.
When you invoke this name over anything, Allah سبحانه وتعالىblesses it, increases it. When you call Him by this name when in distress, Allah سبحانه وتعالى removes the distress. The word اهللcan work miracles.
Make Him alone in your life, love, worship, rely on Him alone. The essen5al need of everyone in this world is التوحيد, believing in the oneness of Allah. It is the solu5on to all the problems of humanity, and for the salva5on of mankind. If you believe Allah سبحانه وتعالىis One, you will want to please only Him.
اهلل is the Supreme Being. This word has been derived

WHAT IS NOT TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS What is Taught: The concept of quarantine was first developed in 1403. In Venice, a law was passed preventing strangers from entering the city until a certain waiting period had passed. If, by then, no sign of illness could be found, they were allowed in. What Should be Taught: The concept of quarantine was first introduced in the 7th century A.D. by the prophet Muhammad, who wisely warned against entering or leaving a region suffering from plague. As early as the 10th century, Muslim physicians innovated the use of isolation wards for individuals suffering with communicable diseases.
What is Taught: The scientific use of antiseptics in surgery was discovered by the British surgeon Joseph Lister in 1865. What Should be Taught: As early as the 10th century, Muslim physicians and surgeons were applying purified alcohol to wounds as an antiseptic agent. Surgeons in Islamic Spain utilized special methods for maintaining antisepsis prior to and during surgery. They also originated specific protocols for maintaining hygiene during the post-operative period. Their success rate was so high that dignitaries throughout Europe came to Cordova, Spain, to be treated at what was comparably the "Mayo Clinic" of the Middle Ages. What is Taught: In 1545, the scientific use of surgery was advanced by the French surgeon Ambroise Pare. Prior to him, surgeons attempted to stop bleeding through the gruesome procedure of searing the wound with boiling oil. Pare stopped the use of boiling oils and began ligating 31
arteries. He is considered the "father of rational surgery." Pare was also one of the first Europeans to condemn such grotesque "surgical" procedures as trepanning. What Should be Taught: Islamic Spain's illustrious surgeon, az-Zahrawi (d. 1013), began ligating arteries with fine sutures over 500 years prior to Pare. He perfected the use of Catgut, that is suture made from animal intestines. Additionally, he instituted the use of cotton plus wax to plug bleeding wounds. The full details of his works were made available to Europeans through Latin translations. Despite this, barbers and herdsmen continued to be the primary individuals practicing the "art" of surgery for nearly six centuries after azZahrawi's death. Pare himself was a barber, albeit more skilled and conscientious than the average ones. Included in az-Zahrawi's legacy are dozens of books. His most famous work is a 30 volume treatise on medicine and surgery. His books contain sections on preventive medicine, nutrition, cosmetics, drug therapy, surgical technique, anesthesia, pre and post-operative care as well as drawings of some 200 surgical devices, many of which he invented. The refined and scholarly az-Zahrawi must be regarded as the father and founder of rational surgery, rather than the uneducated Pare.
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) as saying: The vilest name in Allah's sight is Malik al-Amidh (King of Kings). The narration transmitted on the authority of Shaiba (contains these words): There is no king but Allah, the Exalted and Glorious. Sufyan said: Similarly, the word Shahinshah (is also the vilest appellation). Ahmad b. Hanbal said: I asked Abu 'Amr about the meaning of Akhna. He said: The vilest. (Bukhari - Book 25, Hadith 5338)

Ten Useless Matters There are ten useless matters: 1.Knowledge that is not acted on. 2.The deed that has neither sincerity nor is based on following the righteous examples of others. 3.Money that is hoarded, as the owner neither enjoys it during this life nor obtains any reward for it in the Hereafter. 4.The heart that is empty of love and longing for Allah (SWT), and of seeking closeness to Him (SWT). 5.A body that does not obey and serve Allah (SWT). 6.Loving Allah (SWT) without following His (SWT) orders or seeking His (SWT) pleasure. 7.Time that is not spent in expiating sins or seizing opportunities to do good. 8.A mind that thinks about useless matters. 9.Serving those who do not bring you close to Allah (SWT), nor benefit you in your life. 10.Hoping and fearing whoever is under the authority of Allah (SWT) and in His (SWT) hand; while he cannot bring any benefit or harm to himself, nor death, nor life; nor can he resurrect himself. However the greater of these matters are wasting the heart and wasting time. Wasting the heart is done by preferring this worldly life over the Hereafter, and wasting time is done by having incessant hope. Destruction occurs by following one’s desires and having incessant hope, while all goodness is found in following the right path and preparing oneself to meet Allah (SWT). How strange it is that when a servant of Allah (SWT) has a [worldly] problem, he seeks help of Allah (SWT), but he never asks Allah (SWT) to cure his heart before it dies of ignorance, neglect, fulfilling one’s desires and being involved in innovations. Indeed, when the heart dies, he will never feel the significance or impact of his sins.
