A Monthly Newsletter by Masjid Bani Hashim, Jumeirah Islands, Dubai Issue #31 May (124. And (remember) when the Lord of Ibrahim (Abraham) tried him with (certain) commands, which he fulfilled. He (Allah) said (to him), "Verily, I am going to make you an Imam (a leader) for mankind (to follow you).'' (Ibrahim) said, "And of my offspring (to make leaders).'' (Allah) said, "My covenant (prophethood) includes not Zalimin (polytheists and wrongdoers).'') Surah Al Baqaarah (2) Ebrahim AS was called a leader by Allah SWT in the Qur’an, 2:124 and is known as father of the Prophets (Ismail AS and Isaac AS) and the grandfather of Prophet Jacob AS. He AS is also one of the ancestors of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and is highly regarded not only in Islam but in Christianity and Judaism. Are we not all leaders at the end of the day or aspiring to be one day? Leadership is about believing in an ideal, in a goal and then living this ideal in your life, in your personal and family dealings, in your profession, in whatever you do, because if you really are a leader, then you have to “walk the talk”; which is based on high morals and integrity, you character is exemplary and hence people will want to follow you. To those of you who are Muslims, you must recall a hadith reported by Aisha ( May Allah be pleased with her) “…The character of the Prophet (PBUH) was the Qur’an”…What this means is that He believed that the Qur’an was the Book revealed from Allah SWT through angel Gabriel to guide the humanity. How can you preach something you cannot practice? Even if you do that, that would not be effective. The success of the Prophet’s (PBUH) leadership was due to his truthfulness to the Qur’an. He not only received the message and believed in it, but he also implemented it. The second point I want to clarify is that leadership is not only applicable to politicians, business leaders, scholars but it is applicable to each and every believer because leadership is about taking responsibility of those around us, fellow human beings, whether they are countrymen, citizens, teams, families, you name it! Are we not told in the Qur’an to command good and forbid evil (Qur’an 9:71)? And the believers, men and women, are protecting friends one of another; they enjoin the right and forbid the wrong, and they establish worship and they pay the poor-due, and they obey Allah and His messenger. As for these, Allah will have mercy on them. Lo! Allah is Mighty, Wise. This is further emphasized by the following hadith narrated by Abdullah bin Umar narrated , the Prophet (PUH) said, "everyone of you is a guardian and everyone of you is responsible (for his wards). A ruler is a guardian and is responsible(for his subjects); a man is a guardian of his family and responsible (for them); a wife is a guardian of her husband's house and she is responsible (for it), a slave is a guardian of his master's

Sahih Bukhari. Now let’s go back to the Leadership of Ebrahim AS who is known as a Prophet of Determination due to his resilience and steadfastness in performing the commandments of Allah, Azzawajal. He went through many tests. Most of these have been highlighted in the Qur’an. The struggle against his people, who were idolaters and the favor of Allah upon him when they tried to burn him alive. Allah Azzawajal cooled the fire for him (Qur’an 21: 69-70). We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, (69) And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. (70) Subhanal Allah, amazing!!! What level of belief and trust in Allah. One can see the appreciation of Allah for those who advise the truth and put their full trust in Allah, Allah turns around the laws of nature…the fire became cool…note that it was not extinguished! Subhanal Allah! Command of Allah to sacrifice Ismail AS and the submission of both father, Ebrahim AS and son Ismail AS. Subhanal Allah, how Allah Azzawajal rescued Ismail AS at the precise moment of sacrifice, upon fulfillment of submission. And when (his son) was old enough to walk with him, (Abraham) said: O my dear son, I have seen in a dream that I must sacrifice thee. So look, what thinkest thou? He said: O my father! Do that which thou art commanded. Allah willing, thou shalt find me of the steadfast. (102) Then, when they had both surrendered (to Allah), and he had flung him down upon his face, (103) We called unto him: O Abraham! (104) Thou hast already fulfilled the vision. Lo! thus do We reward the good. (105) Lo! that verily was a clear test. (106) Then We ransomed him with a tremendous victim. (107) And We left for him among the later folk (the salutation): (108) Peace be unto Abraham! (109) Thus do We reward the good. (110) Lo! he is one of Our believing slaves. (111). Building of Kabah by Ebrahim AS and Ismail AS (2:127) And when Abraham and Ismail were raising the foundations of the House, (Abraham prayed): Our Lord! Accept from us (this duty). Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Hearer, the Knower. (127) He succeeded in all the tests, this is what a true leader stands for! He went through each test with humbleness realizing that even if he did not like what was requested to do he had to fulfill the Command from his Rabb (The Lord, The Nurturer, The Reformer). There was complete submission and reliance in Allah’s plan -Allah who is Al Aleem, Al Hakeem (All Knowing, All Wise) and Allah is Shakeroon Shaakor (The Most Ap 2
A Monthly Newsletter by Masjid Bani Hashim, Jumeirah Islands, Dubai Issue #31 May 2016 preciative, The Most Grateful). This is evident by how Allah saved him in all the different trails he went through and honored him with the title of imam (leader). So what are the key traits in Ebrahim AS that made Allah SWT give him the title of leader: 1. He AS realized that he was a humble slave of Allah SWT, in total submission to the ABSOLUTE LEADER, Allah. At the end of the day is not Allah SWT with the Most Beautiful Names and Attributes the best Example to follow? 2. His AS complete reliance in Allah SWT. 3. His AS submission to the laws and legislations as set by Allah, Al Wakil (The Trustee, the Disposer of Affairs) and avoidance of any acts of deliberate displeasure to Allah. 4. His AS submission to the decree, whether good or disliked. This is sabr (patience and steadfastness). 5. He AS was also not selfish and was thoughtful of future generations by asking Allah for leadership to be provided to his offspring. Please note that this leadership is not about acquiring power but it is about guiding humanity to the utmost Truth, which is la ilaha illal Allah (No One is Worthy of worship except Allah). However, Allah Azzawajal, clearly highlighted that He would not give the leadership of the religion to the oppressors (Quran 2: 124) And (remember) when his Lord tried Abraham with (His) commands, and he fulfilled them, He said: Lo! I have appointed thee a leader for mankind. (Abraham) said: And of my offspring (will there be leaders)? He said: My covenant includeth not wrong-doers. (124) In a nutshell, Ebrahim AS was truthful to the covenant of Allah SWT and this led him to being elevated by Allah to the title of leader. Moreover, Allah Azzawajal honored Ebrahim AS even further, for all the generations to come as we Muslims send salutation to Ebrahim AS in our daily prayers: “O Allah! Send Your Salaah on Muhammad and on the family of Muhammad, as You sent Your Salaah on Ibraheem and on the family of Ibraheem, for You are the Most Praiseworthy, the Most Glorious. O Allah! Send Your blessings on Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent your blessings on Ibraheem and on the family of Ibraheem, for You are the Most Praiseworthy, the Most Glorious.” (Al-Bukhari, 3190) Final thoughts on leadership: Whatever you do in life, whether you are a housewife, a mother, a wife, a professional, a businessman, politician, scholar, student, retired etc…you are a leader whether you realize it or not! The question is whether you are a good leader or not? Key tips that I would like to share with you is that good leadership is about talking less, more action, more listening and taking advice from those around us. This does not mean we should not talk good or advise what is right, by no means! Talking good, advising what is right is better than silence and silence is better than talking vain, false or just for the sake of it, without any purpose! However a great leader is one who after taking all fellows’ advice, he will ask Allah SWT’s guidance and will rely ultimately on Allah SWT’s guidance, which is the best advice. In shaa Allah this will then result in sound decision making and be reflected in sound behavior and action. 3

Religious meaning ()
Allah is the Most High in His place ()علو الذات املكان: where is Allah (swt)? Allah (swt) is not everywhere, Allah (swt) is: o
Al ‘Aliy, Al ‘A’ala, Al Muta’al’ ()العلي االعلى املتعال, He rose over the throne in a manner that suits His majesty ()مستو على عرشه, and His throne is the greatest crea>on. Though Allah (swt) is in a high place, He can s>ll hear us, see us, He knows about us, and listens to our dua’a, there is nothing nearer than Allah (swt), not by His place, but by His hearing, seeing and knowledge. ▪
The Most Gracious (Allâh) rose over (Istawâ) the (Mighty) Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty).)
▪ o
The greatest name Ar Rahman rose over the greatest crea>on, subhan Allah.
Above all of His crea>on ()فوق جميع خلقه: Allah (swt) is above all of the human beings, mountains, heavens, and paradise. The ceiling of paradise is the throne of Allah (swt).
▪
Most High in His Status and Posi>on
Allah (swt) is the top in everything because He is perfect in everything Allah (swt) is the top in His love, in His knowledge, in His compassion, in His opening, in curing people, etc. From all names and aXributes of Allah (swt), He is the top in all of them, subhan Allah. He is the top in everything because He is perfect in everything. So don’t make anyone in your heart in the top posi>on except Allah (swt). Allah (swt) will not allow it if someone has a top posi>on in your heart. For example, if you think someone is the top in mercy, then Allah (swt) will show you their faults because only Allah (swt) is the top, so you need to deal with humans as not being perfect. This is the way of Allah (swt) in this life. 6
oPeak in highness from all angles ()غايتها من كل الوجوه: no
one can be higher. oNo one resembles it or is near to it
)احد: no maXer how knowledgeable a person might be, you cannot compare it to Allah The Most High. If you put the knowledge of Musa (as) and Al Khidr, their knowledge is like a drop in the ocean compared to the knowledge of Allah (swt). That is why there is no comparison. oNo one can encompass the perfec>on of any of the aXrib-
utes of Allah (swt) ()ال يستطيع احد االحاطة بصفة من صفاته و ما يستحقه من الكمال: and this makes Him the Most High. Because how much you think about, you cannot reach it. And how much you do is not enough because it does not suit Him. But alhamdulliah Allah (swt) is accep>ng of us.
▪
▪
Surah An Nahl 60: (َٰۚلُ ٱأل َ ۡع َلى ۡ ( ) َوهللَِِّ ٱملۡ َثand for Allâh is the highest descrip>on)
▪
When you think about love, or knowledge, remember that to Allah (swt) belongs the highest and best example, subhan Allah.
Allah is the Most High in controlling whatever He creates and can overcome everything Everyone is under Allah (swt). There are people domina>ng others, but they have faults. We usually think about oppression or slavery, but with Allah (swt) there is no oppression with the domina>on of Allah (swt). o
The en>re universe is desperately under His authority ()العالم كله مقهورون تحت سلطانه: the authority of Allah (swt) is perfect and we are in need of it, otherwise there would be chaos in this world. And alhamdulliah we have only One Allah that is in control. And there is no desire in His authority, it only benefits us, not Him, subhan Allah.
o
All surrender to His greatness ()خاضعون لعظمته: don’t ever misuse any authority given to you. You do not have control over anyone. A mother might love her children so much that she is so possessive of them. Or a husband might love his wife so much that he becomes possessive of her. This negates the love in the end.
o
We are poor to Allah (swt) in all of our affairs ()مفتقرون اليه في كل شئونهم: and this will make Allah (swt) in your heart Al ‘Aliy ()العلي. Nobody should be top in your heart except Allah (swt) and you should not put yourself on top either. Don’t give yourself an authority to be above others.
All of the forelock’s of the crea;on are in the hands of Allah (swt) ()
When Allah (swt) has control over us, it suits us. What does this mean? o
A moving creature does not move except only by the control of Allah (swt) ()ال يتحرك متحرك: when you see anything moving, whether walking, talking, smiling, climbing, etc you need to know that it is from Allah (swt) because He gave them the permission to do it. And this will not make you amazed by anything. For example, to see a small child speaking, you have to know it is from the permission of Allah (swt) and He has control over him. Allah (swt) wants to show you that He is the top of everything and has control over it.
o
One who is silent does not become silent except only by the control of Allah (swt) ()و ال يسكن ساكن: for example, someone speaking so much and all of a sudden falls silent. 7
o
Whatever He wills will be ( )و ما شاء كان/ Whatever He does not will, will not be()و ما لم يشأ لم يكن: anything that happens is not because you wanted it to happen, but because Allah willed for it to happen, and this shows you the control of Allah, subhan Allah. Anything that Allah (swt) wills to happen is the best and perfect situa>on, subhan Allah. We need to think in our hearts that we have no authority over anything, only Allah (swt) is in control. Authority of others has desires, but you want to be a slave of Allah (swt), not the desire of others, subhan Allah.
▪
And He is the Irresis>ble (Supreme), above His slaves)
Displays of Allah’s highness ()
Allah (swt) is above all ()الذي عال عن كل: o
Faults ()عيب: anyone other than Allah (swt) has faults, be it their behavior, aetude, etc. When a person is praising you, you need to thank Allah (swt) that He is concealing your faults, subhan Allah. Allah (swt) will never have any faults. We have faults, and out of His mercy, He is covering our faults. And alhamdulliah for that, otherwise no one would want to be with each other, subhan Allah.
o
Shortcomings ()نقص: shortcomings means to have something but it has not complete, ‘falling short’. For example, you might have mercy, but there are shortcomings. You might love your son and out of your mercy, you spoil him and ending up harming him more, subhan Allah. But the mercy of Allah (swt) has no shortcomings. What makes you to submit to Allah (swt)? When you know that Allah (swt) is the Most High.
o
Harm ( )سوء/ Evil ()شر: there is no harm or evil from Allah (swt). Evil and harm is from the crea>on, not the Creator, subhan Allah. Allah (swt) will not be evil to anyone or harm anyone.
▪
▪
Allah is Above all from all perfec>on Allah’s perfec>on is absolute o
No one can come equal to His perfec>on ()يساويه
o
No one can come near to His perfec>on ()يقاربه
Allah is above all partners they associate in His divinity ()هو املتعالي عن كل شريك ألوهيته: whether people associate idols, awaliya’, angels, etc. Allah (swt) is above all of these partners, so why are they >ring themselves with them? Subhan Allah. Allah (swt) is the only One worthy of worship and submission. That is why in the prostra>on, you are saying (Glory to My Rabb, The Most High) ( – )سبحان ربي األعلىthat nothing is above Allah (swt), not my job, not my family, not my desires, friends, etc. o
▪
Exalted is He over all that they associate as partners to Him!)
Allah (swt) is above from all partners they associate in His lordship
There is no back-up to Allah ()ليس له ظهير: alhamdulliah there is no back-up to Allah (swt).
o
No helper ()
o
No friend out of humilia>on
o
No grantor of victory to Him ()و ال نصير 8
oThere is no replacement for Allah (swt) and that makes
Him the The Most High, The Most Exalted, above all things, alhamdulliah. ▪Allah (swt) is above all partners they associate in His lord-
ship (يته%% وب%% ي رب%% ك ف%% ري%% ل ش%% ن ك%% ي ع%% تعال%% )امل: the Lordship of Allah (swt) includes His ac>ons, and when we speak of the angels taking charge of the rain or revela>on, it is their job, but they are not helping Allah (swt). Allah (swt) gave them this honor, but they cannot do anything without the permission of Allah (swt). Or even if a person is teaching others about the deen, this is not helping Allah (swt), this is a favor from Allah (swt). Because Allah (swt) is the Most High, He is not in need of any help. ▪
High above ()تعالى عن: o
Any partner (بة%% اح%% )صor son (د%% ول%% )ال: this does not suit Allah (swt). What makes Allah (swt) The Most High? Because He does not need a partner or son. Humans need partners / children for support and console. The One we aXach to is higher than having any human quali>es, this is why we aXach to Him.

The lies of the liars (ن%%فتري%%ك امل%%)اف: these lies are describing Allah (swt) in ways that Allah (swt) did not describe Himself. People are wri>ng stories about Allah (swt), we cannot fabricate stories about Allah (swt) because He is the Most High. Such lies are that Allah (swt) has a son, partner, or sleeps, etc. These lies will never affect the Highness and Majesty of Allah (swt). For example, there are people who make up stories about others, and this can make you think lower about the person. But nothing can bring down the posi>on of Allah (swt) even if the whole world is telling lies. The Highness of Allah (swt) will never go down, subhan Allah.
o
Devia>ons of the deviators (ن%% دي%% حاد امللح%% )إل: this includes atheists and any religions that have deviated. Even if there are devia>ons, it will not affect the Highness of Allah (swt). For example in this life, a leader is elected based on how many followers, but this is not the case with Allah (swt). Even if there are a few followers of the straight path, this does not take away from the Highness of Allah (swt). When Allah (swt) allows you to perform any good deeds, to remember Him, to pray, to teach about Him, etc – this is not helping Allah (swt), but a favor from Allah (swt), this is good for you.
o
Not fulfilling His rights The rights of Allah (swt) are to worship Him alone, not associate with Him, to obey Him – and if these rights are not being fulfilled then it does not take away from the Highness of Allah (swt). And if you fulfill the rights of Allah (swt), then this is good for you, it does not benefit Allah (swt).

No one can see Allah (swt) in this duniya. Prophet Mohammed ( )ﷺdid not see Allah (swt) during the ascension and Musa (as) did not see Allah (swt) either. We do not need to see Allah (swt) now, but we need to learn about Him. And because Allah (swt) made us unable to see Him in this duniya, it makes us long to see Him in paradise – which is the greatest delight, subhan Allah.

The Qur’an, the Word of Allah is extremely important in the life of a Muslim and is held with a lot of veneration. A woman was given the honor of being its Custodian. This woman was the wife of the Prophet(SAWS), daughter of 'Omar ibn alKhattab(RA) and sister of 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar(RA). She is well known as the Guardian of the Qur’an - she is none other than the Mother of Believers - Hafsah bint 'Umar (RA).
Hafsa(RA) was also known as “As-Sawwama AlQawwama” – The one who frequently fasts and prays in the night. The status of women in Islam has been an oftdebated issue, many being under the misconception that women are not given any value , respect or honor. These misconceptions are usually spread to defame Islam and Muslims. Some people believe that a woman in Islam is regarded as inferior to man since the Quran says: َولِلرِّجَ الِ َع َليْ ِه َّن َدرَجَ ٌ ة and the men have one degree above women." [Quran 2: 228] The fact is that the rights and responsibilities of a woman are equal to those of a man although they are not necessarily identical. Since men and women are not created identical, they have different physical and emotional qualities, jobs and privileges. This does not mean that women are inferior. On the contrary, Muslim women have been honored, respected, and dignified.
She (RA) was the fourth wife of the Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) after Khadija, 'Aisha and Sawda(RA).She was the daughter of 'Omar ibn al-Khattab and Zaynab bint Mazoon. Her paternal uncle Zayd ibn Khattab, was regarded as one of the best companions. 'Omar(RA) had once said about his brother Zayd ,”He has preceded me to two beautiful things— acceptance of Islam and gaining martyrdom before me (in the Battle of Yamamah against Musaylimah, Al-Kazzab)”
Her brother was 'Abdullah ibn 'Omar-one of the most knowledgeable scholars of the Ummah. The Prophet (SAW) had said that 'Abdullah ibn 'Omar was one the most pious person. 12
So Hafsah (RA) grew up in a household that was deeply religious and committed to the cause of Islam, and thus it is no surprise that she herself was a devoted and extremely religious lady who would spend her time in prayer and fasting. She was very eloquent, very well versed with Arabic, an excellent writer and orator. When Hafsah (RA) was old enough, 'Omar (RA) got her married to Khunays bin Huthafah AsSahmi. Khunays bin Huthafah had accepted Islam after being influenced by the da’wah of Abu Bakr (RA). He had migrated to Madina alongwith Hafsah when the conditions had become extremely difficult in Makkah in the early stages of Islam. He had taken part in the Battles of Badr and Uhud and later died from the wounds that he had sustained in the Battle of Uhud. Hafsa was only 18 at that time (some say she was 21). 'Omar (RA) was extremely sad to see his daughter widowed at such an young age. After she completed her ‘iddah 'Omar (RA) set out to find her a good husband. He first approached 'Uthman ibn 'Affan as he was grieving the loss of his wife Ruqayya (RA). But 'Uthman declined his offer saying he was not ready for marriage. He then approached Abu Bakr (RA) - but he didn’t reply. The attitude of both 'Uthman and Abu Bakr(RA) upset 'Omar (RA), not because they were not ready to marry his daughter but because he was losing out two very good prospects for his daughter. He went to the Prophet (SAWS) to tell him what had happened. The Messenger of Allah (SAWS) said, "Hafsah shall marry someone who is better than 'Uthmaan and 'Uthmaan shall marry someone who is better than Hafsah."
‘Omar (RA) left the Prophet’s company relieved, but confused over what the Prophet (SAWS) had meant. A few days later the Prophet (SAWS) married his daughter, Umm Kulthum to 'Uthman (RA). 'Omar (RA) realized that one part of what the Prophet (SAWS) had said had had come true, but he was still puzzled by the statement of the Prophet about Hafsah marrying someone better than 'Uthman. He couldn’t think of anyone who could be a better man than him. When the Prophet (SAWS) proposed marriage to Hafsah. 'Omar (RA) couldn’t believe the honor that was being bestowed upon his daughter and in turn to him, for being the father-in-law of the Prophet (SAWS). Later Abu Bakr (RA) told 'Omar (RA) the reason for not accepting the proposal. He told him that it was because the Prophet (SAWS) had already confided in him that he (SAWS) was planning to marry Hafsah; and had matters been different, he would have been only too happy to accept Hafsah’s hand in marriage. The relationship that Abu Bakr and the Prophet (SAWS) had was amazing. Abu Bakr (RA) was not only his most beloved companion but also his father-in-law and yet he (SAWS) didn’t hesitate to confide in him about taking another woman as a wife when he was already married to his daughter. Sub'hanAllah what an incredible relationship! When Hafsah was getting married to the Prophet (SAWS), 'Omar (RA) advised his daughter not to compete with 'Aa'isha (RA) as she was more beloved than her, just as the father of 'Aa'isha was more beloved to the Prophet (SAWS) than him (RA). Sub'hanAllah, this is the great companion 'Omar (RA) giving this beautiful advise to his daughter . This advise reflects his selflessness 13
Prophet (SAWS) said that that all the people who had given the pledge of allegiance at Hudaybiyah under the tree would go to Paradise, and not to Hell. Hafsah at once asked him how such a thing was possible. The Prophet (SAWS) got annoyed, but Hafsah (RA) did not give up and quoted an Ayah from Surah Maryam. ْضيًّا ِ َو إِ ْن ِمن ْ ُك ْم إ َِّالوَا ِر ُدهَا ۚ كَا َن َع َلىٰ َرب َِّك حَ ت ْمً ا َمق "There is not one of you but will pass over it (Hell)." [19:71]
and lack of jealousy towards Abu Bakr (RA) and also his love towards the Prophet (SAWS). After marrying the Prophet (SAWS) and attaining the status of the Mother of the Believers, Hafsah (RA) became even more devoted to Islam and was absorbed in studying the finer points of religion. She would keep in mind the conversations that she would have with the Prophet (SAWS) so that she could have reflect and ponder over them to gain a better understanding. She would contemplate over the ayat of Qur’an and discuss the finer points of Shar'iah with the Prophet (SAWS). Abir bin 'Abdullah Ansari narrates an incident which was related to him by Umm Mubasher: “She and Hafsah and the Prophet (SAWS) were sitting and chatting together. The
In reply he (SAWS) quoted the very next Ayah, also from Surah Maryam. ج ِثيًّا ِ ني فِيهَا َ ِ ِثُ َّم نُن َجِّ ي ا َّلذِي َن اتَّ َقوْا َونَذَ ُر الظَّامل "Then We shall save those who use to fear Allah and were dutiful to Him. And We shall leave the wrongdoers therein on their knees (in Hell)." [19:72] This news of Hafsah disputing with the Prophet (SAWS) spread in Al-Madinah. On that day the Prophet (SAWS) was very disturbed; and when 'Omar heard about it, he scolded his daughter. Hafsah (RA) told him that 'Aa'ishah (RA) too spoke in the same manner to the Prophet (SAWS). Her father again cautioned her not to compete with 'A'ishah and maintain a certain decorum, or else she would bring trouble on herself. To be continued…

Narrated Salama bin Al-Akwa RA: Once, while we were sitting in the company of Prophet (peace be upon him), a dead man was brought. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was requested to lead the funeral prayer for the deceased. He said, "Is he in debt?" The people replied in the negative. He said, "Has he left any wealth?" They said, "No." So, he led his funeral prayer. Another dead man was brought and the people said, "O Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him)! Lead his funeral prayer." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Is he in debt?" They said, "Yes." He said, "Has he left any wealth?" They said, "Three Dinars." So, he led the prayer. Then a third dead man was brought and the people said (to the Prophet (peace be upon him) ), Please lead his funeral prayer." He said, "Has he left any wealth?" They said, "No." He asked, "Is he in debt?" They said, ("Yes! He has to pay) three Diners.', He (refused to pray and) said, "Then pray for your (dead) companion." Abu Qatada said, "O Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him)! Lead his funeral prayer, and I will pay his debt." So, he led the prayer. (Bukhari - Vol. 3, Book 37, Hadith 488)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Remember the description of its container and the string it is tied with, and make public announcement about it for one year. If the owner shows up, give it to him; otherwise, do whatever you like with it." He then asked, "What about a lost sheep?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "It is for you, for your brother (i.e. its owner), or for the wolf." He further asked, "What about a lost camel?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "It is none of your concern. It has its water-container (reservoir) and its feet, and it will reach water and drink it and eat the trees till its owner finds it." (Bukhari - Vol. 3, Book 42, Hadith 611) 22
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatul Allahi wa barakatahu In sha Allah in this month's cheer up we bring you an interview with another dear Ustadha. For this edition our title of the interview is “Never despair of Allah’s Mercy, which is so vast (wase’a)”. Let’s take time to reflect on her answers and “pick up” the jewels she throws at us in her answers. Dear Ustadha, Jazakil Allaho khayran for your time. Bismil Allah Allah Al Wase'a( الواسعThe All Vast) what does that mean for you? What implications does it have in your life? Al Wase’a means a lot to me in every matter, in His creation, His rulings, in His Will, in His generosity, in His Forgiveness, in His opening. You see it, the land He created, the different languages. So many things we see, His different forms of rizk: money, eman, etc. Allah Al Wase'a applies to all the Most Beautiful Names of Allah SWT. Whatever you say is not enough to describe Allah, Al Wase’a. It gives you hope, satisfaction. It opens doors. Nothing is impossible for Allah Wase'a, we are tiny. You see His gratefulness, His gratitude. It makes you a positive person, nothing is impossible. You become confident. Allah mentions in Qur'an that life is a struggle, so tell us how can we be happy in this struggle? We have to understand that we are slaves of Allah SWT. Allah SWT has created us to worship Him. You have a purpose in life and hence with this purpose, you feel that this life is not enough to worship Allah SWT. It is an asset if we used it to prepare for the new life. Taqwa is a beautiful advice, how to build it? By knowing Allah as our Creator, our Owner, our Rabb, this is Tawheed. Then by the 23
Qur’an, knowing His message then we will understand the aim of life. It is all about taqwa. To have the right companions. What is happiness? The sukun (tranquillity) of the heart, when your heart is in peace and your conscious is clear. This will not happen unless you are a muttaqueen. Rahatul Qalb. Whatever material blessings we have, should be used to please, to satisfy Allah SWT. Life is an illusion, why do we take it so seriously? Life is what we see, it is tangible. Akhirah is ghaib. Unless we have belief, which is ghaib, we will take life as everything. The more we have eman, the more we will live for akhirah. Give some naseha (advice) to your students? First I do naseha to myself. Whatever we have is owned and controlled by Allah SWT. I cannot disobey Him because I cannot hide from Him. If I obey Him, I will win Him for my dunya and akhirah. And this is my happiness. How to soften the heart? Many ways, by visiting the weak, sick people, by assisting people in a calamity, orphans, widows, needy people. By sitting with people who fear Allah. By understanding the Qur’an. Tell us one of your favourite ayah in the Qur'an that softens your heart? Surah At Talaq (starts from middle of ayat 2 to 3), gives you a lot of power, a lot of energy, a lot of hope. Here I say Allah is Al Wase'a. Then when they are about to attain their term appointed, either take them back in a good manner or part with them in a good manner. And take as witness two just persons from among you (Muslims). And establish the testimony for Allâh. That will be an admonition given to him who believes in Allâh and the Last Day. And whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allâh, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allâh will accomplish his purpose. Indeed Allâh has set a measure for all things.
Do you learn as a teacher? 24
I see others better than me, when I teach I am my first student. I feel others better than me. Teaching energizes me. It is more challenging What is more important, quantity or quality? Quality is more important. Little valuable advice. Points than lectures is my preferred style. Share with us your favourite duaa Allahuma inni asaluka khayra masalaka abduka wa nabiuka Muhammad SAW wa ibaduak as sualehen. Wa audhubika mim sharry mastadha dika abduka wa nabiuka Muhammad SAW wa ibaduka sualeheen What is marriage? It is building a society. You are part of serving Allah. It is part of you being Khalifa. We all have a role to play and each one has a role to play. I do not take marriage as everything in life. You can be unmarried and be everything and do so much for the Ummah. But marriage is sunnate hayat. Can you be happy without it? You can be happy anyway if you are attached to Allah. Marriage does not give you happiness if you are away from Allah. He is the Giver and He is the Taker. Who is your favorite complete women of jannah?
Maryam RA because her devotion, her surrendering to the commandments and tests of Allah SWT, because of her patience. And then Ayesha RA as a role model because of her intelligence, her eagerness to serve the deen, her generosity, her love for the Prophet SAW. Why there is so much suffering in dunya? Dunya is not a paradise, it is a passage, not a place to settle. People see suffering according to their knowledge of the deen and their eman. What can each one of us do to build Madina like at the time of the Prophet SAW? 25
First we have to build ourselves, we have to strengthen ourselves with the Qur’an, then trying to change the close ones with the help of Allah SWT. Then the circle grows bigger. By utilizing our strengths in Allah’s SWT path. Someone is running fast...the finishing line is very close...she is about to give up...what words of encouragement will you in sha Allah give her? Do not give up, it is not worth it. Dunya however much you do it, you will lose. Dunya is temporary. Are you going to lose akhirah for othe sake of dunya, something so temporary? Tell us about akhira. We are advised to focus on akhira, but dunya is what we see. How can we get our focus right? If you are wise, you will see that dunya has no value, it is not worth it. There is a purpose behind the dunya. If you only work for dunya, you know it is going to end here. You are making your life limited, you are keeping your reward only for dunya and if you are working for akhirah, you are making your reward to last for akhirah. Provision, we are so scared. Tell us about Allah AR Razaq. This is about belief in Allah’s Beautiful Names and Attributes. When you were born, you did not come with anything. Allah took care of you. As you were growing, Allah SWT was changing your rizq. He has kept for you what is right for you. So why are you worried, He will take care of you as when you were a child, so He will also take care of you now. Who is taking care of birds, ants, plants? But we have to struggle to achieve our aim and leave the results to Allah SWT. We have many dreams while death can come at any time, Subhanal Allah. How can we rest? Have dreams, it is good but have dreams that are reasonable and try to fulfill it but be careful that you will not have dreams that will make you far from Allah and make you lose the akhirah. Jannati fi sadri...Allah and only Allah makes life meaningful...give your students a treasure before finishing? Never give up in life. Be positive. Be attached to Allah SWT. Take life simple, do not complicate. Do not make life of dunya as everything. Be content. Take life as it comes. Adjust yourself, be flexible. Do not have unrealistic dreams and hopes. Seek knowledge about the beneficial deen and dunya knowledge. Do not stop making duaa, it is a weapon. Alhamdulil Allah Rabb al alameen, wa salato wa salamo ala Rasulil Alla

The strongest evidence is Divine; whatever Allah سبحانه و تعالىsends is correct and perfect. This verse is true for all false religions. Whereas Allah سبحانه و تعالىhears your supplica>ons and responds. َان ٍ س ْلط ُ مَّا أ َنزَلَ اهللَُّ ِبهَا مِن for which Allah has sent down no authority Yusuf عليه السالمtells them that the gods they worship do not have any authority over anyone. They cannot even do anything for themselves, so how could they benefit anyone else.
The Ruler : الحاكِم Everyone submits to Allah سبحانه وتعالى, by force or by choice The One who Judges : الحَ كَم Allah سبحانه وتعالىjudges between two people. A human judge would look at evidence, and consult witnesses, then reach a decision. This decision is not perfect, because evidence can be fabricated, and witnesses can lie while tes>fying. But Allah سبحانه وتعالىknows everything, nothing is hidden from Him. He is the Most Just, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. Therefore His judgement is perfect. The All-Wise : الحَ كيم All the decisions of Allah سبحانه وتعالىare based on His perfect and complete wisdom. Nothing that happens is random, or a coincidence. 27
Yusuf عليه السالمdid not relate his story to his fellow prisoners. He was a messenger, but he knew he was a slave of Allah; he did not complain and exceed his boundaries. He knew that honor is to submit to Allah سبحانه وتعالى, and He would never forsake His slaves. The praise and dispraise of people is not important; what is of value is the pleasure of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, that He should be pleased with you. There are three kinds of judgement or حكم: the judgement of the decree : الحكم القدري The judgement of Allah سبحانه وتعالىis apparent in His decree. People move from place to place, everyone having different sta>ons in life. Whatever Allah سبحانه وتعالى decrees for you is the best. Yusuf عليه السالمknew this, that whatever Allah سبحانه وتعالىdecrees for him will be the best. The judgement of the legislations : الشرعي ّ الحكم Allah سبحانه وتعالىhas the right to set rules and legisla>ons, because the en>re universe is His dominion. When He created the universe, He based everything on rules. Everything is organized, be it gravity, the >des, the planets, the percentage of different gasses in the air. Allah سبحانه وتعالىalso set the legisla>ons. The rules of Allah سبحانه وتعالىare the best, whether you like them or not. Complaining about them is not going to change anything. The شريعةor Islamic rules are suitable to all mankind and Jinn. The judgement of retribution : الحكم الجزائي We as humans have a great responsibility to submit to Allah سبحانه وتعالى, because for us there is Paradise or Hell. The retribu>on is only for humans and jinns, all the other crea>ons will become dust aper death. Allah سبحانه وتعالىgave these two groups a special name in Surah Ar-Rahman, [ ] الثقالنthe two heavy ones. There are two explana>ons to the weight : - The weight of the responsibility of the religion - The weight of our deeds
In the end, whatever the situa>on, you will die. Allah سبحانه وتعالىwill decide who did right or wrong, so do not judge people. When someone dies, do not run to find out details of his death, so that you may decide whether he had a good end or not, this is not your business. Supplicate for the dead person, do not exceed your limits as a human being. You do not know who will go to Paradise or Hell, that is for Allah سبحانه وتعالىto decide. No one can change anyone, you are only the means. Allah سبحانه وتعالىis the Judge. You are a slave of Allah سبحانه وتعالى. Do not ques>on any rules set by Him. Yusuf عليه السالمimplied that these words were from Allah سبحانه وتعالى, not himself. He did not judge anyone. He has commanded that you worship not except Him This is the main command of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, for which we will be recompensed. On top of all the other rules is ُعبادة اهلل وحده, worship of Allah سبحانه وتعالى alone. This is the message Yusuf عليه السالمwanted to convey. He started with an introduc>on to sopen their hearts, then a parable to raise doubts in their minds, then told them about Allah سبحانه وتعالى. Human beings have an inborn need to worship. They look for the quali>es of power and perfec>on. All human beings have a small child in them which needs protec>on and support. Some people need to be put in difficult circumstances to turn to Allah سبحانه وتعالى, and to be able to reach Paradise. The more humble you are to Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the more you are honored. The more arrogant you are, the more you are humbled. That is the correct religion 28
Religion consists of : - belief - legisla>ons - manners The goal of the religion is the correct creed or العقيدة. Religion is the way to reach all good. Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. 3:19

It suits all cultures, all kinds of people. When you take the religion ini>ally, don't take everything together, or you will be overwhelmed, and will not be able to remain consistent. The best deeds are the ones which might be less, but constant. This is not for obliga>ons, which are compulsory. But any addi>onal worship should not be made a burden. But most of the people do not know Therein lies the problem, lack of knowledge. The key to reach Allah سيحانه وتعالىis knowledge. You must train yourself to use the knowledge to reach Paradise. The Messenger of Allah صلى اهلل عليه و سلمsaid:

The matter has been decreed about which you both inquire. 12:41 Yusuf عليه السالمis s>ll in prison, uncomplaining and accep>ng the decree of Allah سبحانه وتعالى. In spite of the fact that everyone knows his innocence, he remains imprisoned. Now he starts with the interpreta>on of the dreams. One of the dreams is difficult to narrate, because it contains dire news. Both are true visions, with symbols, very clear and precise. True visions are from Allah سبحانه وتعالى. They can be seen by believers and disbelievers too. They are not 29
specified to prophets and pious people. Some>mes a sinner can have a dream which will make him repent. O two companions of prison It is not clear whether these two young men accepted Islam or not, aper Yusuf عليه السالمpreached to them; there is a possibility they might have. This shows that the important thing is to convey the message, without worrying about its result. We in life are here to obey Allah سبحانه وتعالى. Yusuf عليه السالمdid not specify who had which dream, because one of them was disturbing. He made the narra>on general.
The matter has been decreed about which you both inquire As soon as a dream is interpreted, it occurs. The interpreta>on of dreams is different for everyone. This cannot be taught. It is important to remember that whatever happens is by the decree of Allah سبحانه وتعالى.

WHAT IS NOT TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS What is Taught: William Harvey, during the early 17th century, discovered that blood circulates. He was the first to correctly describe the function of the heart, arteries and veins. Rome's Galen had presented erroneous ideas regarding the circulatory system, and Harvey was the first to determine that blood is pumped throughout the body via the action of the heart and the venous valves. Therefore, he is regarded as the founder of human physiology. What Should be Taught: In the 10th century, Islam's ar-Razi wrote an in-depth treatise on the venous system, accurately describing the function of the veins and their valves. Ibn an-Nafs and Ibn al-Qu (13th century) provided full documentation that the blood circulates and correctly described the physiology of the heart and the function of its valves 300 years before Harvey. William Harvey was a graduate of Italy's famous Padua University at a time when the majority of its curriculum was based upon Ibn Sina's and ar-Razi's textbooks.
What is Taught: The first pharmacopeia (book of medicines) was published by a German scholar in 1542. According to World Book Encyclopedia, the science of pharmacology was begun in the 1900's as an oshoot of chemistry due to the analysis of crude plant materials. Chemists, after isolating the active ingredients from plants, realized their medicinal value. What Should be Taught: According to the eminent scholar of Arab history, Phillip Hitti, the Muslims, not the Greeks or Europeans, wrote the first "modern" pharmacopeia. The science of pharmacology was originated by Muslim physicians during the 9th century. They developed it 31
into a highly refined and exact science. Muslim chemists, pharmacists and physicians produced thousands of drugs and/or crude herbal extracts one thousand years prior to the supposed birth of pharmacology. During the 14th century Ibn Baytar wrote a monumental pharmacopeia listing some 1400 different drugs. Hundreds of other pharmacopeias were published during the Islamic Era. It is likely that the German work is an offshoot of that by Ibn Baytar, which was widely circulated in Europe.
What is Taught: The discovery of the scientific use of drugs in the treatment of specific diseases was made by Paracelsus, the Swiss-born physician, during the 16th century. He is also credited with being the first to use practical experience as a determining factor in the treatment of patients rather than relying exclusively on the works of the ancients. What Should be Taught: Ar-Razi, Ibn Sina, al-Kindi, Ibn Rushd, az -Zahrawi, Ibn Zuhr, Ibn Baytar, Ibn al-Jazzar, Ibn Juljul, Ibn al-Quff, Ibn anNafs, al-Biruni, Ibn Sahl and hundreds of other Muslim physicians mastered the science of drug therapy for the treatment of specific symptoms and diseases. In fact, this concept was entirely their invention. The word "drug" is derived from Arabic. Their use of practical experience and careful observation was extensive. Muslim physicians were the first to criticize ancient medical theories and practices. Ar-Razi devoted an entire book as a critique of Galen's anatomy. The works of Paracelsus are insignificant compared to the vast volumes of medical writings and original findings accomplished by the medical giants of Islam.

ALLAH CREATED THE UNIVERSE Many different theories have been posited to explain the universe's creation.. Some people, who disregarded the scientific evidence about the beginnings of the universe, suggested that matter has always existed. One hypothesis put forward to support this view is the "Steady-state Hypothesis." Comprehensive and long research has revealed strong evidence that the universe has a beginning. The Steadystate hypothesis, on the other hand, has become a distant memory in the history of science. Data shows that the universe came into being from nothing. Accordingly, the universe has an explosive beginning: the "Big Bang." Before that, there was nothing: no matter, energy, space, time, or a universe. As a consequence of an explosion of an infinitely dense, zero volume point, matter was blasted out at an incredible speed in all directions, forming stars, planets and other heavenly bodies. The universe expanded, inflated, grew rapidly, and, over time, cooled and assumed its present shape. At the present time, most books on cosmology, science journals, and articles on the subject, as well as supporting evidence, assert that the universe began with a Big Bang and therefore has a certain age. As it is impossible to squeeze all of this written material into a few lines, it can be shorten by providing one or two examples. Professor George O. Abell (University of California) states that although the steady-state universe appeals to materialists, it has to be abandoned in the face of new evidence: The steady-state universe is infinite and eternal and has much philosophical appeal. But we have already seen that certain objects, especially quasars, change as the universe ages, which violates the perfect cosmological principle. Moreover, we shall see subsequently that there is direct evidence that the universe has evolved from a hot, dense state, strongly supporting the idea of a big bang. When American scientists announced the discovery of radiation patterns in space that may mark the beginning of time itself, astrophysicist George Smoot, leader of the research team said: "What we have found is evidence for the birth of the universe—It's like looking at God. The order is so beautiful and the symmetry so beautiful that you think there is some design behind it." Somewhere else, he added: "It is a mystical experience, like a religious experience. It really is like finding the driving mechanism for the universe." Given that the universe has a beginning, it has to have been made from nothing. In other words, it was created. If there was a creation, there has to be a creator. This universe was created without a preceding model and even before time and space existed. The most crucial fact discovered by this theory is that the universe has a beginning and an absolute and all-powerful creator. Allah SWT created the universe!
33
The Big Bang is the first movement that we can calculate in the universe. Every single move and event since that moment has happened by Allah's SWT will and under His SWT control. It is unacceptable as well as irrational to assume that matter dispersed by an unconscious explosion could form, by itself, such a galactic order, star systems, and the solar system to which our planet belongs. Everything that can be observed in the environment, including one's own body, has been created in an infinite order within Allah's SWT control and knowledge. The Qur'an reveals that He SWT first created the heavens, then Earth, and finally living beings. Allah SWT created the universe with a very delicate balance and order. Countless factors are interlinked with one another, from the proportion of the atmosphere's different gases to Earth's surface temperature, from the speed of rainfall to the iron content of Earth's core. The force of gravity, which keeps all of the stars and planets in their respective orbits, is another example of this. All matter in the universe is subject to gravitational forces, according to its size. Earth's gravitational force holds the oceans and everything else, including living beings, firmly on Earth's surface. This way, people and other creatures, as well as oceans and mountains, do not fall into the void of space. Earth's mass is of crucial importance here: If its mass had been slightly larger, it would have exerted a greater pull on everything on the planet's surface. Consequently, groundwater would have receded, people would have been unable to walk, water could not have reached the tree branch's leaves, vegetation would have disappeared, and blood circulation would have become dysfunctional and concentrated the blood in the feet. All of these and similar examples prove that Earth's mass is adjusted in such a way to sustain its ecological systems and life forms. Scientists investigating the universe's eventual end believe that everything is in the process of decaying, and that the universe's end will be a result of this decay. They suggest that even one unstable proton could cause this event, and warn of this great danger: Cosmic entropy, if it is real, will continue for centuries but when it happens, nothing will remain, no stars, people, poems, atoms or memories‌ After pointing out this fact, our attention is drawn to the real danger: Not one research project and not one experiment ever undertaken has been able to prove the disappearance of a single proton. However, this has not discouraged scientists from continuing to research in this field. For scientists to witness a proton decay would mean that the universe is face to face with the threat of annihilation. The obliteration of even just one proton means that everything in the universe is decaying, The decay of a single proton would demonstrate that all protons decay and that therefore atoms, molecules, and DNA could not be formed. These few examples are enough to prove that the universe was created by a superior power, who gave it a great order and balance. Our all-powerful Lord protects and watches over this faultless order, for:
Allah keeps a firm hold on the heavens and Earth, preventing them from vanishing away. And if they vanished, no one could then keep hold of them. Certainly He is Most Forbearing, Ever-Forgiving. (Surah Fatir, 41) Allah SWT reveals in the Qur'an that everything in the universe will end. It is obvious that Allah SWT, Who created and sustains this universe, can destroy it whenever He SWT wills. On this great Final Day, all existing orders will cease, and everything that people admired, investigated and incessantly tried to comprehend will be turned on its head, for: His command when He desires a thing is just to say to it, "Be!" and it is. Glory be to Him Who has the Dominion of all things in His Hand. To Him you will be returned. (Surah Ya Sin, 82-83) THE UNIVERSE'S EVENTUAL DESTRUCTION Our world is surrounded by deadly threats. Surprisingly, even though we know of such dangers, many of us live as if no life-threatening danger faces the universe and as if our lives were guaranteed. Many of us do not reflect upon death or what comes after death. Our world is on a long journey in an endless space. In reality, the factors making this journey possible are more numerous than anticipated. Earth faces many dangers on this journey: from comets to falling stars, from black holes to supernova explosions. It must stay in its orbit around the Sun, revolving at a constant speed on its axis, following a spiral path at the required angle to the Sun, and maintain all of the prevailing balances in its systems for life to be possible on it. However, there is no reason why external dangers should not destroy these balances. Scientists, who point out these dangers at every opportunity, agree that Earth could face such dangers at any time. As Professor Carl Sagan says: The earth is a lovely and more or less placid place. Things change but slowly. We can lead a full life and never personally encounter a natural disaster more violent than a storm. And so we become complacent, relaxed, unconcerned. But in the history of Nature, the record is clear. Worlds have been devastated. Even we humans have achieved the dubious technical distinction of being able to make our own disasters, both intentional and inadvertent. On the landscapes of other planets where the records of the past have been preserved, there is abundant evidence of major catastrophes. It is all a matter of time scale. An event that would be unthinkable in a hundred years may be inevitable in a hundred million. Even on Earth, even in our own century, bizarre natural events have occurred. It would not be surprising to see the universe destroyed by some of the things mentioned earlier. Maybe all of the things Allah SWT says will happen on the Day of Judgment will happen because Earth's equilibrium will be damaged. No doubt, damaging the faultlessly functioning order could cause many catastrophes, and maybe, the Last Day, which people consider unlikely or far in the future, is just round the corner. to be continued...
