Overview Gabriel Massa founded Massa Multimedia Architecture (MMA) in 1996. For almost quarter of a century, MMA has grown consistently every, both in size, number of nationally renowned clients and accolades. Gabe has managed and morphed MMA into a nationally recognized design firm with extensive in-house experience in a wide array of industries that range from Retail, Educational, Healthcare and MixedUse developments. In each of these defined markets, MMA has developed a portfolio that showcases a primary concentration of designing, entitling and developing projects in both urban and suburban environments. At MMA, Gabe

spends most of his days in the design studio, working side-by-side with the design and entitlement teams, where he is fully involved in the intricacies and compositions of almost all the designs. A hands-on approach has resulted in a proven path of success as Gabe’s ability to successfully translate his and his team’s theories and philosophies of design into real world application that have resulted in hundreds of successful projects and long-term client relationships. MMA recently acquired JMD, a healthcare design firm, which included a trademark on a Healthcare design coined the “Hyperpod”.

MMA prides itself with the ability to constantly adapt our services, designs and in-house capabilities to stay at the forefront of the rapid progressions of technology. As an architectural firm registered in multiple states, MMA is constantly working in numerous states simultaneously, so staying up-to-date with the ever evolving technological trends is of key importance. As our ambition to learn and adapt continues to guide us, we are confident that our efforts will allow us to provide our clients with the highest level of service. From initial design concepts through construction documents,

cost estimating, working with local authorities, permitting, bidding and construction administration, MMA has gained an extensive amount of experience throughout the years. Since the beginning, and as the company continues to grow, each project that MMA takes on follows Gabe’s philosophy that building strong relationships is critical. Everyone at MMA understands that building strong relationships is the first step to building strong teams, which is the first step towards building successful projects.

As technology was beginning to be integrated into everyday architectural design, Gabe knew that he wanted to be a leader, and not a follower. In the true understanding of Multimedia, Gabe knows that a client can walk through our door and get everything they need for any project. In addition to all the usual architectural needs, they can get state-of-the-art renderings without having to send them overseas. More than just animations, we are directing and producing movies as part of a complete branding and wayfinding package, or a website with custom coding and features like area demographics and an interactive leasing plan for the leasing team. They can get a Virtual Reality tour of the site and experience it without ever putting a shovel in the ground for the project and ensure consistent branding across all platforms. They can get Video marketing for the project to bring to the upcoming trade show. They can get a custom animation of their logo or have us develop email marketing templates for their subscribers. All of this under one roof instead of dealing with several outside vendors makes this so easy for our clients.

A FUTURE VISION FOR WALMART GABRIEL J. MASSA / MMA

WALMART HEALTH September 13, 2019, MMA was part of another “First”: Walmart Health launched its first Primary Care Clinic in Dallas, GA. Walmart was able to utilize its retail know-how to design an integrated and consumer friendly experience. Walmart Health offerings include a very diverse set of services under one roof giving Walmart customers and their patients the opportunity to easily access what they need, whenever they need it. Services include cost effective and comprehensive primary care including behavioral health, telehealth, dental, phlebotomy, imaging services, audiology, community health (nutritional services, fitness), health insurance education, clinical and optical services and a newly designed state of the art vision sales and pharmacy. As a proponent of Modular Construction long before it became popular, Gabe design approach allows these Health Clinics to be constructed in record time. With an average square footage of between 6000-7500 SF, using integrated magnetic panels has enable a space to be built out in under 2 weeks. With a vacuum waste system incorporated into the panels, there was no need for trenching, thereby significantly reducing construction time. h t t p s : //w w w. m m a - a rc h i te c t s . c o m / walmart-health-case-study/

With a reduction in non-revenue generating spaces such as circulation. MMA’s patented “Hyperpod” was well suited for integration of the primary healthcare exam rooms. This design effectively reduced the linear footage requirements along the outside wall by up to 35%, while still delivering the natural light to patients. Everything from floor finishes, ceiling finishes, casework were continually being explored and tested within the mock-up. Testing multiple options for prototyping was also implemented. Before the mock-up was built, virtual reality provided numerous advantages over physical mock-ups. MMA’s ability to effectively use 3D visualization technology was an economical alternative to quickly simulate and study layouts. MMA was able to test the functionality of the room by wearing head-mounted display allowing any individual to physically immerse themselves within the virtual space to test the design without physically building one. Virtual Reality proved to complement and drive the design of the physical mock-up and continues to do so today. The intricate and detailed animations continually helped fill in the blanks for designers and the associated Walmart design teams. Collectively we were able to make informed decisions on the design but more importantly, how interfaces should be built and how to help uncover potential constructability concerns.

MMA’s success and reputation quickly began to be noticed. MMA was selected as #8 of the World’s Top 10 Most Innovative Architecture Companies by Fast Company for our “Out of the Big Box” approach to retail design. Most recently. Then in 2020, we were once again recognized for by Fast Company our innovative and ground-breaking design last year as a finalist of Most Innovative Health Projects in 2020 for our Walmart Health Clinics. : https://www.fastcompany. com/90547947/health-innovation-by-design-2020 These are but 2 of the many accolades received by Gabe and MMA which include Architectural Record, ENR and BD+C to name a few.

HISTORY MMA established itself in late December 1996

In 2000 Samuel Smith was lauded for making NJEDA history as its first new school construction project of the massive State program to be designed and bid. It was also NJEDA’s “first” to achieve successful completion, all in recording-breaking time.

In 2001 MMA’s Stevens Institute of Technology Student Services Center project was selected as the Cover Story by the Architectural Woodwork Institute.

In 2006 we created a Joint Venture with world renowned Architectural Firm of Michael Graves. Since then, Graves/MMA have been collaborating on numerous K12 schools throughout New York City amounting to well over $350 million in construction costs. We recently decided to expand our JV to now include Healthcare. Our collective medical experience will provide the opportunities to capitalize on medical work which is probably one of the fastest growing markets.

2016 - MMA opens office in Washington DC in the Canal Street section of Georgetown.

2017 - MMA opens medical architecture office in Greenville, SC after aquiring JMD architecture.

LB Johnson, Walmart’s VP of US Realty Operations, announced the Reimagined Program at the ICSC in Atlanta on October 23rd 2018 via his keynote address. As soon as one news got out, the news went viral and continues to do so. Walmart is transforming the retail industry and we are so glad to have the opportunity to help them in their remarkable journey. Now Walmart refers to MMA as their Chief Creative Consultant responsible for Customer Expertise and Community Engagement.

2019 - MMA opens the first Walmart Health located in Dallas, GA.

2020 - MMA opens several other Walmart Health locations in Georgia, Arkansas and Texas
