I stood in the frame of the window / Absorbing the warmth of the sun My figure made shade on the concrete / Before me it stretched out, defined I held a jar full of water / It danced with the pulse of my arm The light hit the water and then casting down / My heartbeat appeared on the floor

Massey Klein Gallery is pleased to announce, UNSEEN, a solo exhibition of new works by Laura Sallade. The exhibition will be on view from October 16th through November 24th, with an opening reception on Wednesday, October 16th, from 6-8pm. This is the artist’s second solo show with the gallery. Laura Sallade’s glass works capture fleeting moments, utilizing the presence and absence of light to convey emotional memories. Through the use of controlled chemical reactions and manipulation of multiple materials, including silver nitrate, the artist creates layered glass paintings . The use of negative space and her distinct style of “drawing” with light create a multi-layered surface. Each work achieves intense depth and allows the viewer to meditate and reflect. The artist’s newest body of work included in UNSEEN is inspired by the study of physics, not only as an anchor for all fields of science, but also as a means to chart the unseen workings of the visible world. As we cannot see light (only that which it touches), the works in UNSEEN are explorations of the pathways it would create if it could be mapped. Triggered by an experience or memory, the works stem from personal moments in time, deeply connected to the artist. Included in the exhibition are intimate glass drawings, large scale multi-paneled wall sculptures, and works on paper. Laura Sallade lives and works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The artist completed her Certificate in Sculpture from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 2014. She has participated in numerous exhibitions both in Philadelphia and New York. Along with these exhibitions, the artist has completed commissions for Ritz Carlton, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Anthropologie Clothing Stores, and for the Dualtone Music Group in Nashville, TN.
