The National Council on Educating Black Children’s flagship document, was produced in 1986 at the Hunt Valley 1 Conference. Written by African American grass root communities, national organizations, and educators, the Blueprint for Action is a manifesto for action. It promotes collaboration and empowerment among stakeholders in the “village,” to support the educational success of all children. In Strand 1 there are seventy-five (75) slots available for strategic working teams to revise our flagship document. If you are a Student, Parent, Educator, Policy Maker, Faith-based or Business Leader, we invite you to participate with other like-minded stakeholders to formulate NCEBC’s policy, practice and pedagogies for the 21st century. Registered participants who are interested in being a part of the strategic working teams please email ncebc@sbcglobal.net by January 10, 2012.
Strand 2: Policy & Practices Symposiums Strand 2 is a series of symposiums around policies and practices that influence the achievement of African American students. Nationally known experts and leaders of high performing school will share successful practices during these symposiums.
Strand 3: Solution Workshops NCEBC is calling for Workshop Presenters!!!!! School, Family and Community Leaders - We Know the Problems… Come and Be a Part of the Solution! Strand 3 consists of ninety-minute workshops covering the following topics: 1. Creating a Healthy Learning Environment in Schools to Inspire Success among Students (Practices) 2. Fostering Personal and Emotional Motivators for Success (Pedagogy) 3. Strengthening the Family Unit to Raise Successful Children (Practices) 4. Building Community and Social Conditions that Foster Success (Policy)
Dear Stakeholders, The National Council on Educating Black Children (NCEBC) strongly believes that children, regardless of background, can learn basic skills to sustain them throughout life and make personal fulfillment possible. Over the years, our charge has been for parents, teachers, administrators, policymakers and community stakeholders, through a collective consciousness, to build partnerships that search for and discover strategies and solutions to ensure that equity and excellence are an integral part of the learning and teaching processes in every school district that has a significant number of black children. We will convene in Kansas, MO to ensure that this charge is upheld. This conference is challenged to establish a strategic plan of action that will generate resources for developing and assisting in promoting a national agenda for all to follow. It is up to us, the village stakeholders, to help our children believe in themselves and their ability, propelled by the accomplishments of their ancestors and the achievements of their peers, and to take their rightful place among the future leaders of this global society. Respectfully, Dr. Claude Mayberry Jr. President, NCEBC

1. What has research demonstrated about African American students in teaching, learning, curriculum models, school organization and testing? (Is there anything researchable about African American students that has escaped the research communities’ “interest”?) 2. How has the prolific body of research improved teacher preparation in the areas of achievement equity, discipline, behavioral actions, college attendance rates, and the over-representation of African American students in special education, as it relates to: A. School based instructional practices B. Assessment practices C. Parent and community engagement in the cate gories of school relationships and school practices 3. What research work remains for the stakeholder community to apply in eradicating the issue of the mis-education of our children? 4. The effects of the ongoing disintegration of our children’s academic performance and related educational dysfunctions are clear today. So what do we need “to know”? 5. What is missing in our determination as educators, and why have we “lost” the belief-based established by our history as a people?
