Office of The President Greetings New Students: Welcome to Tennessee State University! Tennessee State University, Nashville’s only public, four-year university, is nationally recognized as an institution that holds to a tradition of academic excellence and student success. You will find that we pride ourselves on creating a community of learners committed to achievement at Tennessee State University. We are an environment rich in tradition and value. On behalf of the community, I want to welcome you and look forward to your engagement as a scholar at this great University. You might be wondering how you can participate as a scholar at Tennessee State University; get involved in your educational experience. You might join one of more than 100 clubs or activities designed with your academic, cultural, or social enrichment in mind. The University provides numerous opportunities for students to participate in programs that nurture undergraduate research and creative expression, create study abroad opportunities and enhance civic engagement, all of which broaden views of the world and inspire life-long learning. History shows that Tennessee State University alumni are successful in their career choices. Many now serve as physicians, jurists, attorneys, corporate executives, and even political activists. In an ever-changing and technologically advanced society our incoming students are always among the most talented students to walk the hallowed halls of academe. Many national corporations such as Raytheon, General Motors, IBM and Dell computers seek TSU students to employ. We are proud to have a role in the extraordinary development of the next generation of leaders. U.S. News & World Report has consistently ranked Tennessee State University the top public Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the nation. The University is also ranked among the top 50 best colleges for African Americans by Black Enterprise magazine. Moreover, Tennessee State University is home to a nationally ranked forensics debate team, accredited academic programs and the 2009 HBCU Golf Champions. Additionally, President Obama recently named TSU to the 2009 Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction, the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement. While at Tennessee State University, I want you to become actively involved in the campus community of scholars. I challenge you to prepare yourself to challenge the world with new thoughts, ideas and direction. Thank you for selecting “Big Blue.
Sincerely,
Melvin N. Johnson President

Four Important Processes
to Complete PROCESS #1: Advisement Report to your assigned advisement location to meet with your advisor. See “Locations for Advisement & Registration” to determine your advisement location based on your major or developmental studies requirements. Your major is listed on your Registration Card that was provided to you at checkin. • Students who have placed in only one of the following courses may report to their major for advisement: DSPR0800 DSPW0800 or DSPM0850 All first-time freshmen must enroll in an orientation course for the spring semester. Select the course required for your major. Undecided students should enroll in AEAO 1000 (orientation for undecided majors).
PROCESS #2: Registration Report to your assigned computer lab to complete course entry using myTSU (http://myTSU.tnstate.edu). See “Locations for Advisement & Registration” to determine your registration location based on your major or developmental studies requirements. Follow these instructions carefully – Orientation staff and advisors will be present to provide assistance.
Step 1 – Login to myTSU • From a computer located in a designated lab that is already logged into the TSU network, connect to the Internet by double-clicking the Internet Explorer icon. • To login to myTSU, you must access the website http://myTSU.tnstate.edu. • Utilize the username and T-number look up

Registration Issues: "Holds" on your account that prevent you from registering. The most common "holds" relate to developmental studies requirements and/or proof of measles vaccination. You must take the appropriate action and visit the office indicated on the hold message to remove the hold. Staff will be available in the lab to provide you further direction on removing holds.
Step 3 – Print Schedule • Click Student and Financial Aid Services Tab at the top 8 Click Registration 8 Click

PROCESS #4: Fee Payment and Confirmation of Registration During the month of July, students will need to login to myTSU and to check account balances, pay fees, and confirm registration for fall. All fees are subject to change July 1, 2010 by the Tennessee Board of Regents. It is imperative to read your myTSU email to receive important announcements about fee increases, financial aid, registration, bill payment, etc. The university will not mail bills to students. Students will have to check myTSU for account balances. Fall Fee Payment & Confirmation of Registration begins July 26, 2010. For assistance with myTSU, please call the Help Desk at (615) 963-7777. The Fee Payment & Confirmation of Registration Deadline is 4:30 pm on August 20, 2010. All registration fees must be paid in full. All students who use deferments/aid to pay all or a part of their fees must confirm registration. Confirmation of registration affirms that students plan to attend the classes for which they are registered and gives the university permission to apply financial aid. Students who register/confirm and subsequently decide not to attend must drop all classes before the first day of classes to avoid a penalty.
