With a few noble exceptions—LeWitt, Kiefer, the Boiler House—we rotate everything, every year, stem to stern, across all our galleries, courtyards, and stages. Be sure to enjoy our Chalet Sessions and have a drink with some of the most interesting artists working today. At dusk on most Thursdays and Fridays, the Chalet Sessions take a 30-minute phantasmagoric dive into the animated world of Clifford Ross’s Harmoniums, which spill out of his gallery exhibition and onto 12 mega-screens in our concert Courtyard D (with a different half hour music mix each night). Speaking of which, we will be spending a lot of time outdoors this summer, with three multi-day, multi-venue music festivals, Toshi Reagon’s musical lovefest for Prince and Michael Jackson, and Tom Cruise at our local airport.

This survey includes a photograph printed on raw wood that measures 24’ high by 114’ wide, a vast 12-screen video installation that transforms our largest courtyard into a phantasmagoric optical field, and a cathedral of hurricane waves, documented up close and digitally reimagined.

LIZ DESCHENES GALLERY 4.1.1
With her “concrete photography,” Liz Deschenes makes visible the materials and processes of the medium, namely the interaction of paper, light, and chemicals. The influential artist, who received the deCordova’s Rappaport Prize in 2014, is best known for atmospheric photograms which are produced without a camera and which change over time. She debuts a new work at MASS MoCA.
