BGC Construction NARROGIN AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE A college rich in history that has produced many successful students was in much need of an upgrade. New and resurfaced carparks, renovation and refurbishment of student services and new residential accommodation including a dramatic amplitheatre has assisted in transforming the college. In the regional location all stakeholders contributed to ensure quality of workmanship and timely delivery with minimal effect on the operational requirements of the college. Working in this regional area was very rewarding, the refreshing attitude of the local stakeholders made the experience a real pleasure.
TRAFALGARS HOTEL The original Hotel was built in 1856 as a modest two-storey building, but before the end of the century a larger one had been built alongside. These two buildings became what is know today as Trafalgars Hotel and although the hotel has undergone many alterations over the years it has long been associated with Bunbury’s History over the past 157 years. Perkins Builder’s brief required to undertake a complete renovation and restoration of the existing building whilst preserving the heritage values.

Perkins Builders LIGHTHOUSE BEACH RESORT The Lighthouse Beach Resort Hotel has for many decades been an icon landmark on the coastal skyline of Bunbury, which generations of residents and visitors have enjoyed. Phase one of the project involved a comprehensive refurbishment of the entire residential south east wing of the hotel, comprising 33 rooms in a three storey block. Phase two was added shortly after commencement of phase one and involved the complete internal rebuild of the hotel’s function centre, it was negotiated and included as a variation to the original contract.

The project involved the expansion of the Emergency Department in two stages. The first stage was the establishment of temporary ambulance bays and enclosed walkway providing access to the existing Emergency Department on a 24/7 basis and construction of a new two storey 1,775 m² Emergency Department. The second stage followed after completion of the stage 1 and occupation of the new Emergency Department, this works comprises of refurbishment and alterations to 737 m² of the existing Emergency Department by creating a new ten bed Short Stay Unit and a new fast track area for the Emergency Department.
The project involved the construction of a single storey, 868m2 Coronary Care Unit and a two storey 1450m2 Comprehensive Cancer Centre. The primary construction materials used include structural steel framing, suspended concrete slab and walls, brickwork and metal roofing. Access and services to the Hospital needed to remain unaffected by the construction works. The project has an estimated final value of $14.1 million including GST.

HISTORY HOUSE
Group Training Head Office is a 500m2, two storied office building built on the fringes of Bunbury’s CBD. This two-storey building was constructed using concrete tilt panels, insitu concrete suspended floors and timber truss framed roof. It comprises of Offices, open plan work areas, Boardroom and Function area. The use of tilt panel construction allowed this element to perform the vertical structural support, the external wall and fire ratings.

The brief for this project stated that this new building should reflect the style of the existing heritage buildings in the Manjimup Timber Park. The cladding material and paint colour were chosen to adhere to this request. The layout of the building was dictated by the needs of the Historical Society in that they required a 2 hour fire proof archive room, a dedicated library, meeting room and office plus a kitchen for the use of its members. The exterior of the kitchen are an ambulant bathroom and a disability compliant bathroom, which were required to be accessible by the general public.

Tate Construction SURFERS POINT/RIFLEBUTTS AMENITIES BUILDINGS Surfers Point and the closely located park area of Riflebutts are the focal point of both local and international surfing competitions and a major tourist attraction. This area has been the subject of the Shire of Augusta Margaret River major upgrade since 2012, with the Surfer’s Point inclusion in the ASP World Tour.

Accordwest is a 600m2, community support and consultation facility. This tilt panel building has been constructed over two lots and compliance wise is actually two buildings. Extensive use of internal tiltplanel walls used to achieve acoustic and fire ratings. Workmanship was important as this was a facility the owner is going to use a occupy for many years to come. Use of standard products used throughout to minimize cost. The project involved Smith Constructions working closely with the designer and engineer to work through critical constructability.

This innovative training facility’s design and quality construction will stimulate students to attend, to participate and to contribute. The Architect was relentless in critique which provided a performance catalyst – the result is outstanding buildings that have been finished in complementary fashion.
The main structural components of brickwork and structural steel, finished off with a typical fit out, that being a combination of gyprock and metal strip ceilings, cabinetry, carpets and vinyl. The notable difference with the finishes is the colour schemes. The whole project was complimented by extensive paving and landscaping works.

The brief for this project was to construct 3 aged accommodation units staying within the theme of the surrounding cottages. Extensive ramps were installed to the rear of the units to accommodate adequate access due to natural slope of the site. Each unit is a two bedroom, 1 bathroom design with open living and kitchen, private courtyard and shared lined carports. They represent excellent value for money with the value of each unit under the contract not exceeding $150,000 including painting, floorcoverings, fencing, ramps and window treatments.

Hamelin Retreat PORT GEOGRAPHE This 10 Y.O house needed an “update” so we were contracted to completely gut the living dining and kitchen areas, re- lay and re-sand the floors and create an extended living area out through new “seamless “ glass doors onto an outdoor living area. A complete new kitchen and pantry were built and installed, ceilings reshaped and new lighting and painting have created a beautiful new living space, and externally we built new walls, deck areas and landscaped the back pool area to create a” resort” style living on the canals.
A prime example of what can be achieved through communication between builder and client. Limited plans were available for this renovation but close supervision and the co-operation of all trades ensured that Bluewater Building was able to turn this small brick and tile unit into a substantial 2 storey home.

Zorzi South West Builders EAGLE BAY RESIDENCE Designed by renowned architect Paul Jones and Zorzi South, this beautiful teak clad masterpiece stands tall on top of the dune, right on the beach at Eagle Bay. Interior design by Nina Dempster from Ozbyrd Design brings an understated elegance to this home. From the customised lift to the Coolroom, the home comes complete with every convenience one could ask for whilst still maintaining a relaxed and casual, beach house feel. The use of natural timbers are predominant, with the recycled tallow-wood floorboards, painted white cedar-lined ceilings and walls and solid cedar cabinets dominating the interiors whilst the complete exterior is clad vertically in pacific teak. These raw timber textures juxtapose to the more industrial element of polished concrete in the feature wall of the staircase and the matching polished plaster of the fireplace. Double-glazed sliding stacker doors open out onto a huge outdoor alfresco balcony that continues the teak motif
