DEVELOPING SKILLS FOR TOMORROW’S PLUMBERS
Right now, there is plenty of support for businesses who are looking to grow their workforce and put on an apprentice or trainee.
After conducting a study on skills shortages in Queensland, the Queensland Government made it a priority to entice young people to enter trades like plumbing, investing $32 million in funding to pay for the training component for apprentices and help make it more costeffective for businesses.
Further to the State Government funding, in response to the economic impact of COVID-19, the Australian Government has made available 50% wage subsidies for businesses who employ an apprentice or trainee, under the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements initiative.
How Does a Business Employ an Apprentice or Trainee?
Employing an apprentice or trainee involves some paperwork and legwork. You may need help to first find your new apprentice or trainee, there is often some research on the best training course involved, organising the training contract, and submitting your sign-up paperwork.
An Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) provider is contracted by the Australian Government to handle all the complexities of placing your apprentice or trainee.
What Kind of Apprenticeship or Traineeship?
Whether you are looking to train the next plumber for your business, someone to help in your retail trade store, or you need someone in your office to help with administration, hiring someone under an apprenticeship or traineeship is a smart way to go!
Not only will you be potentially eligible for 50% wage subsidies, but your new employee is also gaining a qualification while learning valuable skills within your specific business requirements.
