MAMAMOO Debuted on June 18th, 2014, MAMAMOO is a one of a kind, groundbreaking girl-group. With oldest member and leader- SOLAR, MOONBYUL, WHEEIN and the youngest HWASA are changing stereotyped skinny pretty girl image of female KPOP artists. With their recent release of WANNA BE MYSELF, they are telling the critics who call them not girly enough, not shy enough or for being too bold for a Korean Girl
group.

MOONBYUL Second Oldest member of the group- Moon Byul Yi is a 27 year old Main rapper of the group MAMAMOO. In the beginning she indulged in the typical short skirt and dress wearing typical girlgroup out its but sooner the entire group realized no matter how they dress or well behaved they are people will always ind a way to undermine them. That’s why, with the release of ‘GOGOBEBE’ all the the members of the group showed themselves regardless of what the trends were or what they were expected to wear. The fans knew the personal style of MOONBYUL was far di erent from the one she was putting up in her performances. Once the authenticity of the each member- especially MOONBYUL and HWASA shined through- the group became

much more popular amongst international audiences as well.
STYLE NOTES: PERSONA
MOONBYUL Wearing tailored suits, military pants and heavy duty boots with side chains are part of MOONBYUL’s persona. But that doesn’t mean it’s all just Goth. Pairing double breasted suits with black pumps, a all black ensemble with pink lipstick is her own way of refusing to acquire any labels such as TOMBOY or the ‘feminine rebel’. MOONBYUL encoporates her personal style which can be described in three words- comfortable, baggy and hip. As a raspy voiced rapper her inspiration comes from NY- Hip Hop street wear. Which is colorful, baggy always paired with sneakers. MOONBYUL adds her own spin with occasional pairing of her glasses, POP- lip colors and grey sneakers or black
boots.
PERSONAL STYLE
MOONBYUL MOONBYUL’s Instagram and Korean television appearances are great examples of her personal style. She is 5ft 6in tall and has a ache-free fair skin which she touches up with typical Korean makeup- Bright nude lips with faded orange or red eyeshadow. Her Body shape is straight- Rectangle, which is the most common amongst Korean women. MOONBYUL prefers to wear layers on top with baggy bottoms. Most commonly, even in her television appearances she wears boyfriend jeans, sneakers and a body- itted top layered with a jacket or

an overall- like hoodie.
RE-CREATING PERSONAL STYLE
MODEL
The model for recreating MOONBYUL’s style is my friend Ritika from NIFT Jodhpur (FC VII). She is currently staying in Abu- Rajasthan with her family and, we did this shoot online. Ritika is 5ft 7in tall and has a fair pimple-free skin. Her body type is straightRectangular- Which matches MOONBYUL’s pro ile. Ritika recently cut her hair short and luckily it matches MOONBYUL’s look from around 3 months ago when she was sporting similar hairstyle by abandoning the popular Korean bangs. After going through MOONBYUL’s out its and Ritika’s closet we paired up three out its and focused on how can we recreate the retro-streetwear look

The high waisted pant, top layers & sneakers is MOONBYUL’s signature look. We tried to recreate this look mainly by focusing on the posture and trading baseball cap color.

sneaker and a happy

MOONBYUL look.
Learning • The topic de initely seemed interesting and I immediately knew that I wanted to pick MOONBYUL as I’m a huge fan of her music and MAMAMOO’s single had just dropped.
• I’m lucky to have a friend like Ritika who actually took out time to do this collaborative project with me. She was aware of my health and fully supported me, for that I’m extremely grateful to her.
• The main learning from this project was- how important personal styling is for a celebrity as it draws straight line between their stage persona and actual personality. In MOONBYUL’s case it is extremely true.
• As during their irst few years she was wearing skirts, dresses which weren’t suited for her at all and it showed through her performances and TV appearances.
• Only after molding her stage persona into an extension of her real personality- she found herself being more
