uly greetings, Matchbook girls!

We hope your summer is getting along swimmingly. This month we visited three different corners of the globe to share places of spectacular history and style. First up, we took a trip down to Georgia to explore the Hostess City. Savannah has long been at the top of our travel wish list and we're pleased to report it more than lived up to our high expectations. From the sweet potato soufflé at Mrs. Wilke's to Leopold's banana ice cream, our team gladly indulged in every aspect of Southern fare. Read our Savannah guide for our tips on where to eat, drink, shop, and explore on your next trip down South. We certainly can't get back soon enough!

Next, take a jaunt over to Europe to our new friend Jennifer Diederich of fashion label Suite. Her fun styling caught our eye on Instagram and we simply had to learn more. The former Project Runway contestant moved from New York to Florence for her handsome Italian husband and has been enjoying narrow cobblestone streets and charming outdoor markets ever since. Read on to learn of her love of Schiaparelli, Italian coffee, and Breakfast at Tiffany's. Jennifer is a Matchbook kindred spirit if there ever was one. Last but certainly not least, we boarded a train to the picturesque Hamptons. Our cover girl, Joey Wolffer, not only helps run her family's Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack, but also has her own accessory boutique on wheels, The Styleliner. We had a magical morning with Joey chatting all things rosé, jewels, and travel. We hope you fall for her style and charm as much as we did. Wishing you a most splendid July! Carmen Miranda

PORTRAIT OF A L ADY

Actor, comedian, and singer Carmen Miranda (1909-1955) was far more than met the eye. From the radios of Brazil to the glittering screens of Hollywood, she captivated the world with her “Brazilian bombshell” flair. Read on to learn some lesser known facts about the lovely Latin icon.

Though she was known as the “Brazilian bombshell,” Miranda was actually born in Portugal. Her parents moved the family to Brazil while she was still an infant.

The flamboyant performer was educated in a convent. Raised in a devoutly Catholic household, she did her best to keep her showbiz dreams under wraps.

Miranda was born with deformed feet and had to wear special shoes when performing.

Far from the stage, Carmen began her career as a department store clerk. She loved to entertain her coworkers with songs, eventually landing a gig on the local Rio radio.

While singing at Rio's Casino da Urca in 1939, Miranda was noticed by Broadway producer Lee Shubert, who arranged to bring her to New York. It was her big break. 18

Miranda was talented on and off-screen. She loved to draw and was known to be an accomplished sketch artist and costume designer.

Miranda always gave back, donating a generous percentage of her earnings to the poor in South America.

While taping a song-and-dance number for The Jimmy Durante Show, Miranda suffered a heart attack. She died the following morning in her Beverly Hills Home at the young age of 46.

Miranda’s body was shipped to Rio for burial where nearly one million people lined the streets to mourn their lost national icon.

You can still see her colorful costumes for yourself. Upon her passing, over 3,500 pieces were donated to Brazil where a Carmen Miranda Museum was founded in Rio de Janeiro.

We love the coziness of bed and breakfasts when we travel and Savannah's historic Dresser Palmer House did not disappoint. Centrally located a few short blocks from Forsyth Park, we immediately fell in love with the inn's colorful interior and old world charm. Breakfast each morning was full of decadent Southern fare and the evening cocktail hour made for the perfect time to unwind from a busy day of sightseeing. I came to study in Florence through FIT in 2001. I met my now husband, Claudio, only a couple of weeks after

landing in Florence. I finished my degree in NY and then promptly moved back to Italy to be with Claudio, despite my undeniable love affair with New York City. I have been here for 13 years!

I often find inspiration in everyday objects. For example, I'm working on a coat inspired by little brown paper bags. I also love dress silhouettes from the 50s and 60s and the general lifestyle of that era.

I like to gather inspiration and think about what the Suite girl might want or need at first. Then I choose a theme, I always choose a theme, it makes the process more fun and inspiring for me. After that I try out silhouettes and choose fabrics for samples. A lot of the original designs evolve while creating samples, and it is always interesting to see how far I can go with them. Joey Wolffer's adventuresome career revolves around two things these days: wine and jewels. As co-owner of Wolffer Estate Vineyard, the Hamptons darling was born into a family that has long appreciated good wine and great style. European-inspired eatery in downtown Chicago with fabulous decor. It's named for the villa in which The Rolling Stones recorded Exile on Main St. WE MET... At work. I picked

up some work from my colleague who was out sick and one deliverable was for Denny. I hand delivered it to him a few floors down. When we met in person, time stopped! THE PROPOSAL... Every fall we

go to the same orchard to pick apples, raspberries, and peppers. We had more than enough produce to take home, but Denny insisted I climb into a tree to get one last arm full of apples. When I turned around to hand them to him, he was holding out the ring. Needless to say, I dropped the apples. Was so simple and elegant, straight off the rack at J.Crew. I loved everything about it! I had a piece of lace from my grandmother's gown cut MY DRESS…

kept it small and had a morning ceremony followed by brunch. Also, it was important for me to honor my grandparents as they were such an exemplary couple. To do so, we planned our wedding to coincide with what would have been their sixty-second anniversary. We will forever get to share it with them! WE HONEYMOONED INâ&#x20AC;ŚMaine! We spent ten days in a few different towns along the coast, relaxing, eating lobster, and lounging at B&Bs. It was magic! We loved it so much we are spending our first anniversary back there and hope to make it an annual trip.
