Seaworthy
Inspired by the seasonal pilgrimage of French & American creatives of the 1920s, the Seaworthy collection embodies patterns drawn from my textile & object library that evoke the textures, charm & tales of sunny, leisurely expeditions to the Côte d’Azur.
As the warm East wind, Le Levant signals the end of Winter, the writers, artists, witty conversationalists and their muses migrate for the summer to the pebbly beaches of Antibes or the golden hills of Saint-Paul-de-Vence and the surrounding villages from Parisian pied-à-terres, ateliers or from the States via ocean liner travel.
After a long lunch with the Fitzgeralds and Hemingway at Colombe d’Or, Zelda hops into her petite convertible but not before she has wrapped her hair in a silk scarf with Jacques Lartigue capturing the moment mid-motion. We make the drive to the Murphy’s Villa America for cocktails, leaving Scott to pen Tender is the Night.
The scent of dry hay, neroli, rosemary, rose geranium, baked stone, mint, oysters, Pernod, bread & wine, with Cole Porter playing in the background as the day turns to balmy night and the lively conversation and dancing starts again.
A joy ride along the sun-soaked country roads to visit Picasso at Antibes where he invites us in, dressed in his uniform of striped top, rope soled espadrilles and cotton print bandana around his neck. The invitation to join him for an afternoon of plein air, oysters and baguettes is irresistible.
Lazy days of bathing under striped fabric beach shades, the rocks absorbing the day’s heat as we are elevated on fold out rattan sun loungers, our freshly made straw hats turning golden in the sun, the smell of salt, wine & timber, sailing through the crystal-clear shallows of the Mediterranean to Iles de Lérin for exploring and a dip to refresh.
Such stories, characters & sensory delights are encapsulated in the textures & patterns I teased out by delving into my object library. Vintage espadrille fabric, woven on the thinnest of looms in subdued stripes waiting to be hand stitched onto rope soles. A collection of woven rattan baskets, bottles and bags begging for a row-boat picnic A homespun flour sack picked up in a Brocante on a sun-soaked country road in the south of France. The well-loved seat of a Drucker (founded 1885) bistro chair in a favourite dappled square Petite repeat patterns based on linocut prints of anchors and boats, reminiscent of scarf to tame wild hair or tied simply around the neck. - Sibella Court

Over the many years of travelling around the world scouring flea markets and shops for vintage oddities and curiosities, I have accumulated an object library that I am constantly referencing for my designs & projects.
Delving into this library I have created my collection of wallpaper & textile prints NOSTALGIA. Although NOSTALGIA is not instantly recognisable as being from a specific time, era or place, the patterns & colours are a nod to the past, to trigger fond memories of a person dear to you, a place you loved or a period of time in your life.
NOSTALGIA is steeped in my own memories of spending a decade living in New York City. A time of dreaming up magical sets for photoshoots for magazines, ads & catalogues. The collection names are the streets I lived on and my favourite walk home to Tribeca & later Chinatown, through Soho with its cobbled roads and cast iron front buildings, fire escapes with soaring windows. A walk back in time in itself. For me a time of “anything can happen” and a place to create a sanctuary of your own to call home amongst the concrete jungle of NYC with its endless energy and magnetic chaos
