Dear parents, alumni and friends of Seattle Prep,
We are breaking ground on our new building this June! Our Board of Trustees gathered on February 12th to decide if we should proceed with the project this summer or wait another year to begin construction. We decided to go forward due to the following: 1. The most responsible approach to the seismic concerns associated with Adelphia is to resolve the problem as soon as feasible. Also, because the new building created through the Peyton renovation/addition will transform the learning environment for Prep students, we saw little reason to delay either of these important goals. The favorable loan agreement we are entering into with Chase Bank makes financing $10 million of the project an excellent financial decision for Prep in the long run. The low interest rate and extended term make this a responsible path for us. 2. Construction costs are rising and every indication is that they will continue to rise. The cost savings we could achieve now would not likely last into 2014. Money saved now is money we would not need to raise later. 3. Finally, the support of the Prep community has been very encouraging thus far. We have raised $10.9 million in pledges, and of this amount, $9.5

million is designated for the building project. The goal we are trying to raise is $15 million. When we reach the $13.5 million mark we will receive another $1.5 million cash gift from the Norcliffe Foundation. (That would bring the total gift from this outstanding foundation to $3 million!)
with P r e s i d e nt K ENT H i ck e y
Our task now is to close the gap between $10.9 and $13.5 million. We have phased the remaining $2.2 million over the course of the next 18 months (March 2013 through the completion of construction in August 2014). Our next benchmark is $1.1 million by this June. We know we can do this because of the generosity of the Prep community. The Prep community understands how essential this project is to our present and to our future. I firmly believe we will all do our best to get this done! Our terrific campaign staff and volunteers will now work even harder to get the word out to the Prep community. We need to reach that $1.1 million benchmark in June and we will together. Thank you to all who have brought us here through your generous support.
P r e p Facu lt y & Staff G e n e ro u s ly S u pp o rt th e C am pai g n The dedication of Seattle Prep’s faculty and staff is evident everywhere you look. They are in the classroom, coaching after school, leading retreats, working in the offices and making sure our facilities meet the needs of our students. They do it because they believe in the mission of Seattle Prep to educate our students to be men and women for others. The faculty and staff campaign committee, headed by Ron Zipse, Kathy Krueger and Brian Elsner ’97, reached out to their colleagues for support of Building Our Future. This group of dedicated professionals has stepped forward and raised more than $375,000.00 with 99% participating to date. This is a wonderful demonstration of the shared commitment our entire community has in Building Our Future: The Campaign for Seattle Prep. Please thank our faculty and staff for their generosity the next time you see them.
Navo n e Fam i ly G i f t The family of Patricia & James Navone ’54 has a rich legacy and tradition at Seattle Prep. Jim is a graduate of the class of ’54 and Pat served on the Board of Trustees from 1980 - 86. Each of their five children (Jim ’77 MRC, Janet Eckmann ’79, Carol Navone-Bonnie ’80, Theresa Roberts ’83 and Jeannine Christofilis ’90) graduated from Prep and today they have seven grandchildren who have graduated or are currently attending Seattle Prep. The family has come together with a significant gift to name the Great Room the Patricia & James Navone ’54 Great Room. This new space, located on the top floor of Peyton Hall, will help foster the sense of community that Prep is well known for and will be a place for students, faculty, alumni and parents to gather in fellowship. We are grateful for the Navone family and their support of Building Our Future: The Campaign for Seattle Prep.
PATTY AND SCOTT MEDEN Patty and Scott Meden have supported Building Our Future: The Campaign for Seattle Prep on many levels. They made an initial gift to the building project last spring, then, after reflecting on the importance of the project, they decided to make a second gift to the campaign. In addition, they chaired and supported the efforts to establish the Class of 2013 Endowment in
“Education is such an

respectful. This plays out in many ways including school spirit, the range of sports and activities available and the inclusive atmosphere.” The Medens’ hope is that Prep is able to continue to provide students the opportunity for a quality education in a spiritual community environment for years to come. To do this, Patty and Scott firmly believe that Prep needs a state-of-the-art facility: “The current campaign to support capital improvements will make this possible. With the exciting campus improvements, Seattle Prep will take educational, spiritual and individual growth to the next level so that students will find their high school experience to be successful and fulfilling.” Both Patty and Scott feel fortunate that their son, Alec ’13, has been able to experience all that Prep has to offer. When asked what they will remember most about Prep, they reply, “Watching our son learn, grow and stretch his boundaries. Seeing him develop the capabilities that will help him to succeed, not just in college, but in life. Realizing that Alec woke up every day excited to go to school and had a happy, successful high school experience.”
Scott and Patty Meden
They believe that any child who has the desire and ability should be afforded the same opportunity as Alec ’13. The Class of 2013 Endowment is especially important to the Medens because they feel that each class needs to do its part and keep the possibility of a Prep education accessible for all future Panthers. “We know the need for tuition assistance will continue to grow. By supporting the Class of 2013 Endowment we show our kids that, as members of this community, it’s important to get involved and support those who will come after us.”
