SETTING THE INDUSTRY STANDARD: Superior tree quality and growth Our goal is to get all the macro and micro nutrients (minerals) as high in the plant as possible while maintaining a proper mineral balance. Unbalanced minerals can have undesired effects to the tree, for example, if nitrogen is out of balance (too high) compared to potassium and calcium in the plant, fire blight will be a problem. We monitor many other mineral levels and make adjustments based on our findings. Having plants with balanced minerals will help repel insects and disease organisms. A strong and healthy root system is also important because it is the root system that delivers the nutrients to the plant.

OUR FOUR STEP PROCESS Our whole program, is based on being as environmentally friendly as possible. It is geared to support life in the soil that is instrumental in producing a strong healthy plant that has good energy in it and that can carry on into a new environment until it is established.

Our residue spray program on the soil feeds the beneficial soil microbes. In doing so, it creates an environment to help support soil life and help hold onto applied fertilizers to prevent leaching. This fertilizer program is sustainable and prevents ground water and run-off contamination.

From the soil analysis, missing macro and micro nutrients are added, building up soil fertility.

A low salt drip irrigation fertilizer is also mixed with organic substances that help prevent leaching. This keeps the fertilizer in the root zone where it is needed and also reduces the amount needed because of efficiency. Roots do not like salt and most commercial fertilizers are laden with them.

A foliar fertilizer program is added to the pesticide applications to increase efficiency. Adding natural chelating agents in the fertilizer maximizes absorption plus it is beneficial to the soil and soil life as the over spray comes in contact with it. Drift becomes less of an issue and more of a benefit.

THE RESULT: BRANCHED ONE YEAR TREES & FIBROUS ROOTS We regularly perform a comprehensive soil audit that monitors all the macro and micro nutrients, pH, organic matter and type of soil. A water solubility test of the soil is performed which gives us insight into soil structure and availability of the major nutrients. These nutrients can be present but unavailable for many reasons. Earth worms, beneficial bacteria and fungi are the workers that take the fertilizer that is added to the soil and convert it into a form that the plant can use. They also protect the roots from soil born plant diseases like fusarium, pythium, phytophthora and even harmful nematodes.

Yarlington Mill

Introduced in the 19th century from Yarlington, West Cadbury, England. Fruit is small to medium in size, pale yellow background with red blush over colour. Flesh is firm, juicy, fine textured, sweet and mildly bitter, good aroma and flavour. Vintage cider which has good body and is mildly bitter, good stand-alone singlevarietal. Not good for eating and oxidizes quickly when cut. Harvest is late season; late October. Tree is precocious, productive, wide branch angles; biennial bearing can be an issue. Lots of blind wood but responds well to scoring. Mid-late season bloom. Fireblight susceptible.

APRICOT MARKET IN ONTARIO

Of all apricots imported to Canada are brought to Ontario, a value of $8.5 million. Ontario only has 52 acres of mapped apricot orchards, a tremendous opportunity for commercial fruit growers.

Apricot production in Ontario is well positioned to meet its large market demand in the coming future, hallmarked by the addition of apricots to the Ontario Tender Fruit Grower marketing board mandate. Ontario averages imports of 3 million kilograms of apricots every year, which has been a stable import quantity for the last 6 years. This volume of imported apricots is valued at $8.8 million. There is a minimal production of apricots in Ontario, a mere 52 acres of mapped orchards; Ontario fruit growers have a lucrative opportunity to take a portion of this market by growing existing cold hardy varieties.

APRICOT ROOTSTOCKS Krymsk® 1

An interesting tree fruit rootstock for providing vigor control and improved fruit size. Additionally, Krymsk®1 appears suited to areas requiring cold hardiness. Krymsk®1 is competitive with traditional rootstocks such as Lovell as a rootstock for either European Plums or Japanese Plums. Early information has demonstrated good yield efficiencies and some enhanced fruit size.

It has repeatedly shown superior anchorage relative to all other rootstocks, including peach/almond hybrids. The vigor and productivity of Krymsk® 86 has been similar to Lovell. The soil adaptation is quite broad, including soils considered too wet for Lovell. The root system of Krymsk® 86 spreads very wide relative to Lovell and Nemaguard. In addition, individual roots possess amazingly high tensile strength, resulting in stronger roots and superior anchorage.

CHERRY VARIETIES Due to sensitivity to spring frosts and untimely rains, sweet cherries can be grown commercially in only a few areas in Canada. British Columbia is the largest producer of sweet cherries, accounting for 1,593 hectares or 89% of total Canadian production. The key production areas are the Okanagan, Similkameen and Kootenay Valleys. Ontario produces most of the remaining 11%

Pear trees are long lived and can produce fruit for over 100 years. Pears grow best in areas with mild winters and warm growing conditions. Norfolk (C-16)

A variety developed in Ontario with early shedding pollen and medium, oval nuts that have some difficulty shedding their skin. Has a good hazelnut flavour and shells very easily. Very cold hardy, up to Zone 4 and wherever black walnuts can grow. Kernel quality acceptable for fresh market and processed market, especially in pastes and chopped uses. Highly EFB resistant and good catkin hardiness. 20 C-16 trees recommended per acre (high density planting).

Chelsea (C-28)

A variety developed in Ontario with late shedding pollen and small, oval nuts that shed their skin easily. Has an excellent hazelnut flavour, ideal for fresh market. Mori Essex Nurseries Inc. sets a pricing structure that realistically reflects wholesale levels. Orders are entered as they are received and Order Acknowledgments are mailed to acknowledge receipt of your order. Order Confirmations are sent out in late winter to early spring confirming your order. Deposits are required for all orders. It is important that our customers check their acknowledgments and confirmations carefully. Mori Essex Nurseries will contact growers in the event of crop loss or conditions beyond out control. Spring orders will not be shipped until the previous seasonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s account is payed in full, including all service charges.

CLAIMS

We regularly ship across Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces. Shipping of plant material is coordinated through your salesperson. We respectfully request 48 hours notice to prepare orders. All shipments must be paid in full including shipping costs. All outbound shipments are FOB Leamington. All stock travels at the purchaserâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s cost. As we use common carriers, drivers are unable to unload trucks. To service our customers as efficiently and cost effectively as possible, there are often multiple customer stops on a truck. It is important that shipments are unloaded within a reasonable amount of time so all customers receive their orders on the day scheduled. If stock is not unloaded within two hours, a wait surcharge may occur. For any deliveries requiring two days or more of travel, temperature recorders may be included in most climate controlled trucks for your protection.

At Mori Essex Nurseries Inc., we are very proud of the high quality of our stock and the never-ending efforts to make our service the standard in the industry. We do realize that occasionally things are not as they should be. On these occasions, our customers have reason to file a claim. In order to process your claim efficiently, please follow these guidelines: Claims against viability of plants shipped while dormant in early spring must be made within 45 days of receipt of shipment. Any claims reported after the 45 day period will be respectfully declined. Claims must be submitted in the same year as the plants were received. Claims for plant material after this time will be respectfully declined. When reporting, please refer to the order/invoice number and be specific as to the plant variety and size, number and reason for claim to your salesperson. Please discuss any material you are submitting a claim against with your Sales Representative.

Deposits of $1 per tree with the balance C.O.D. or prepaid. For new customers, credit applications may be requested by calling the office or the Sales Representative. Mori Essex Nurseries does not ship C.O.D. AGREEMENTS

In all cases , customers will be required to acknowledge in writing to certify that they are engaged in the business of farming and that the goods sold to them will be used exclusively in the conduct of that business. In addition, depending on the variety, we may require a written and signed agreement to cover non-propagation of a variety, and purchase for testing only.

GUARANTEE

We guarantee that all stock is true to name and in good condition when it leaves Mori Essex Nurseries. We hold ourselves in readiness, with proper proof, to replace any nursery stock or refund the original amount should it not be as represented. Under no conditions are we liable for more than the original amount. We are not responsible for nursery stock that does not grow as it is subject to conditions beyond our control. We are not responsible for damage that occurs due to delay in transit. If you are not fully satisfied, please contact your Sales Representative.
